  text:
As global industries seek to reduce energy consumption and lower CO2
emissions, the need for sustainable, efficient maintenance processes in manufacturing
has become increasingly important. Traditional mold cleaning methods often require
complete tool disassembly, extended downtime, and heavy use of solvents, resulting
in high energy costs and environmental impact. This study presents a novel localized
ultrasonic cleaning process for injection molding tools that enables targeted,
in situ cleaning of mold cavities without removing the tool from the press. A
precisely positioned ultrasonic transducer delivers cleaning energy directly to
contaminated areas, eliminating the need for complete mold removal. Multiple cleaning
agents, including alkaline and organic acid solutions, were evaluated for their
effectiveness in combination with ultrasonic excitation. Surface roughness measurements
were used to assess cleaning performance over repeated contamination and cleaning
cycles. Although initial tests were performed manually in the lab, results indicate
that the method can be scaled up and automated effectively. This process offers
a promising path toward energy-efficient, low-emission tool maintenance across
a wide range of injection molding applications.

text: Over the past decades, the importance of lightweight structures in the aircraft
and automotive industries has steadily increased due to regulations aimed at reducing
global warming. Work hardened steel alloys are commonly used for lightweight applications,
but they face stability issues when the material thickness reaches certain thresholds.
Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP) offer a viable alternative due to their high strength-to-weight
ratio, but they are often expensive due to long production cycles and high material
costs. A feasible solution lies in hybrid lightweight designs that utilize expensive
FRP materials only in highly stressed areas, achieving a balance between low mass
and acceptable cost. These hybrid structures are lighter than metal components
and more cost-effective compared to fully FRP structures, without compromising
mechanical properties. This study focuses on producing rotationally symmetrical
hybrid structures using Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) combined with vacuum assistance
in a single-stage process. The research examines the effects of injection pressure,
mold temperature, and the interface between metal and FRP. The mechanical characterization
of these hybrid structures was conducted to assess their performance under torsion,
compression, and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) loading conditions. The results
indicate that hybrid designs can offer a lightweight alternative without compromising
    mechanical properties.

  text:
Currently, the need for resource efficiency and CO2 reduction is growing
in industrial production, particularly in the automotive sector. To address this,
the industry is focusing on lightweight components that reduce weight without
compromising mechanical properties, which are essential for passenger safety.
Hybrid designs offer an effective solution by combining weight reduction with
improved mechanical performance and functional integration. This study focuses
on a one-step manufacturing process that integrates forming and bonding of hybrid
systems using compression molding. This approach reduces production time and costs
compared to traditional methods. Conventional Post-Mold Assembly (PMA) processes
require two separate steps to combine fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) structures
with metal components. In contrast, the novel In-Mold Assembly (IMA) process developed
in this study combines forming and bonding in a single step. In the IMA process,
glass-mat-reinforced thermoplastic (GMT) is simultaneously formed and bonded between
two metal belts during compression molding. The GMT core provides stiffening and
load transmission between the metal belts, which handle tensile and compressive
stresses. This method allows to produce hybrid structures with optimized material
distribution for load-bearing and functional performance. The process was validated
by producing a lightweight hybrid brake pedal. Demonstrating its potential for
efficient and sustainable automotive production, the developed hybrid brake pedal
achieved a 35% weight reduction compared to the steel reference while maintaining
    mechanical performance under quasi-static loading

text: Injection molding plays a pivotal role in modern manufacturing, enabling the
mass production of complex components with high precision. However, traditional
tooling methods often face challenges related to thermal management, design constraints,
and material efficiency. This study examines the use of additive manufacturing
(AM) in the development and optimization of injection molding tools to overcome
these limitations. A novel prototype was fabricated using AM techniques, incorporating
integrated cooling channels and optimized lattice structures to enhance thermal
performance and simplify the manufacturing process. Experimental validation demonstrated
the prototype’s effective integration into a vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding
(VA-LRTM) system without requiring modifications to existing tooling setups. The
results showed significant improvements in temperature regulation, reduced cycle
times, and consistent mechanical properties of the molded components compared
to conventional approaches. By reducing the number of tool components and eliminating
the need for support structures during manufacturing, AM also minimized material
waste and post-processing requirements. This research highlights the transformative
potential of additive manufacturing in injection molding tool design, offering
increased flexibility, cost efficiency, and enhanced functionality to meet the
evolving demands of modern industrial applications.

text: "Otus is a high-performance computing cluster that was launched in 2025 and
is operated by the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC2) at Paderborn
University in Germany. The system is part of the National High Performance Computing
(NHR) initiative. Otus complements the previous supercomputer Noctua 2, offering
approximately twice the computing power while retaining the three node types that
were characteristic of Noctua 2: 1) CPU compute nodes with different memory capacities,
    2) high-end GPU nodes, and 3) HPC-grade FPGA nodes. On the Top500 list, which
ranks the 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world, Otus is in position 164
with the CPU partition and in position 255 with the GPU partition (June 2025).
On the Green500 list, ranking the 500 most energy-efficient supercomputers in
the world, Otus is in position 5 with the GPU partition (June 2025).\r\n\r\n\r\nThis
article provides a comprehensive overview of the system in terms of its hardware,
software, system integration, and its overall integration into the data center
building to ensure energy-efficient operation. The article aims to provide unique
insights for scientists using the system and for other centers operating HPC clusters.
The article will be continuously updated to reflect the latest system setup and
    measurements. "

text: Verification planning for engineering complex systems lacks a systematic procedure
for creating test scenarios. Test scenarios can be generated by combining test
cases, or by integrating test cases into pre-specified scenarios. Based on a systematic
literature analysis a method is developed to simplify verification planning by
creating new test scenarios and enriching existing ones. To assist the V&V engineer
in planning test scenarios, a catalogue of combination premises is created to
support the method. The method is evaluated in the development of a platform for
emergency management. Evaluation proves that the method makes modelling of test
    scenarios more efficient.

text: The increasing complexity of technical systems requires early, structured
verification and validation (V&V). Existing metadata models only map parts of
the engineering process and do not enable a continuous chain of effects from requirements
to test results. The aim of this publication is to develop a holistic V&V metadata
model for the consistent, transparent and machine-processable description and
linking of relevant engineering artifacts. In a five-stage research approach,
essential model components are derived from literature and are integrated into
a holistic model. Initial applications as part of a European research project
show the potential of the model for a well-founded effect chain analysis and decision-supporting
    V&V processes.

text: 'This article provides a comprehensive mathematical-didactic analysis of how
the highly relevant topic symmetry can be prepared for the university education
of PSTs. Methodologically, the analysis is embedded in a design research cycle
and serves as preparation for the actual design of learning activities. The procedure
of "specifying and structuring" learning objects is used and adapted in such a
way that, in addition to mathematical aspects, profession-oriented references
to school mathematics are also considered. An essential result of the analysis
is the formulation of so-called interface aspects to symmetry, which prove to
be helpful in establishing such references. '

    dargestellt.

text: In the course of digitalization, machine learning and data-driven methods
are currently receiving a great deal of attention in science and industry. However,
there is a lack of basic knowledge and understanding of how data-driven methods
in computer science can be meaningfully combined with proven model-based engineering
methods such as model-based design in mechatronics and control engineering methods
to obtain hybrid models. These engineering methods are based on physical models,
which represent a particularly condensed and interpretable representation of knowledge
and, in particular, describe causal relationships. For specific control engineering
applications, there is extensive prior knowledge in the form of known structures
and information, such as (partial) models or parameter sets, which should also
be used when applying methods such as machine learning. Such a meaningful systematic
connection has not yet been sufficiently investigated scientifically, especially
with regard to industrial applications, and is very promising. This contribution
presents the results of the DART junior research group – Data-driven methods in
control engineering. The main objective was to investigate the synergistic combination
of model- and data-driven methods for control engineering tasks, and all important
research results as well as the basic principles of machine learning used are
    presented in this publication.

text: Reputation systems to rate companies’ performances remain largely unexplored
inresearch and are scarcely used in business-to-business (B2B) practice. Such
systemsare essential for businesses seeking trustworthy partners, as they help
reduce infor-mation asymmetry, lower buyers’ transaction risks, and allow high-quality
serviceproviders to justify premium pricing. Unlike traditional review-based systems
in thebusiness-to-consumer (B2C) context, we propose a B2B reputation mechanism
inwhich buyers commit to a rating payment before a transaction. Once the buyer
final-izes the rating, this payment is executed and recorded on a blockchain as
an immu-table, secure ledger. Our system mimics natural trust-building mechanisms
    with rat-ings that are (1) monetary-based, (2) stake-based, (3) non-aggregated,
    (4) involvecounter-ratings, (5) selectively sellable, (6) individually comparable,
    (7) stored ona blockchain, (8) and monitored by a third instance. This system
provides a novelapproach to fostering trust in B2B transactions by reducing information
asymme-try and transaction risk. We illustrate the mechanism’s application in
the consultingsector. Our analysis has identified 23 institutional trust and distrust
dimensions thatpromote establishing institutional trust through the proposed mechanism.
Qualita-tive interviews suggest that, while complex and challenging to apply,
this mecha-nism can foster trust in B2B transactions. Given the low maturity in
the applicationdomain—rating professional business services with business reputation
systems—and solution domain—using monetary stakes for ratings, this system stands
    as apotential invention.
