abstract = {{With regard to environmental protection, the sustainability of production processes is decisive. Mechanical joining technologies like self-piercing riveting are of special importance with regard to realising lightweight constructions in the automotive industry. However, the production of self-piercing rivets is costly, time-consuming and energy-intensive, as the rivets conventionally must be heat treated and coated in order to ensure an adequate strength, ductility and corrosion resistance. Within this paper, it is shown by the example of a newly established rivet manufacturing process how the sustainability of fastener production can be increased. The general approach in this context is the use of alternative, high strain hardening stainless steels as rivet material, which allows the omission of the post treatment of the rivets after forming. The shortening of the process chain enables a more sustainable rivet production. Thus, not only the energy consumption is reduced, but also costs, which is why the novel manufacturing process is also of interest from an economic point of view.}},

abstract = {{Due to the high variation in the application requirements of sound event detection (SED) systems, it is not sufficient to evaluate systems only in a single operating mode. Therefore, the community recently adopted the polyphonic sound detection score (PSDS) as an evaluation metric, which is the normalized area under the PSD receiver operating characteristic (PSD-ROC). It summarizes the system performance over a range of operating modes resulting from varying the decision threshold that is used to translate the system output scores into a binary detection output. Hence, it provides a more complete picture of the overall system behavior and is less biased by specific threshold tuning. However, besides the decision threshold there is also the post-processing that can be changed to enter another operating mode. In this paper we propose the post-processing independent PSDS (piPSDS) as a generalization of the PSDS. Here, the post-processing independent PSD-ROC includes operating points from varying post-processings with varying decision thresholds. Thus, it summarizes even more operating modes of an SED system and allows for system comparison without the need of implementing a post-processing and without a bias due to different post-processings. While piPSDS can in principle combine different types of post-processing, we here, as a first step, present median filter independent PSDS (miPSDS) results for this year’s DCASE Challenge Task4a systems. Source code is publicly available in our sed_scores_eval package (https://github.com/fgnt/sed_scores_eval).}},

This task often falls to computing education. In the traditional fields of computing education, a plethora of models, guidelines, and principles exist, which help scholars and teachers identify what the relevant aspects are and which of them one should cover in the classroom. When it comes to explaining the world of digital artefacts, however, there is hardly any such guiding model. The ARIadne model introduced in this paper provides a means of explanation and exploration of digital artefacts which help teachers and students to do a subject analysis of digital artefacts by scrutinizing them from several perspectives. Instead of artificially separating aspects which target the same phenomena within different areas of education (like computing, ICT or media education), the model integrates technological aspects of digital artefacts and the relevant societal discourses of their usage, their impacts and the reasons behind their development into a coherent explanation model.
}},

Sandwich packings represent new separation column internals, with a potential to intensify mass transfer. They comprise two conventional structured packings with different specific geometrical surface areas. In this work, the complex fluid dynamics in sandwich packings is modeled using a novel approach based on a one-dimensional, steady momentum balance of the liquid and gas phases. The interactions between the three present phases (gas, liquid, and solid) are considered by closures incorporated into the momentum balance. The formulation of these closures is derived from two fluid-dynamic analogies for the film and froth flow patterns. The adjustable parameters in the closures are regressed for the film flow using dry pressure drop measurements and liquid hold-up data in trickle flow conditions. For the froth flow, the tuning parameters are fitted to overall pressure drop measurements and local liquid hold-up data acquired from ultra-fast X-ray tomography (UFXCT). The model predicts liquid hold-up and pressure drop data with an average relative deviation of 16.4 % and 19 %, respectively. Compared to previous fluid dynamic models for sandwich packings, the number of adjustable parameters could be reduced while maintaining comparable accuracy.
}},

This also results in an efficient implementation of the ORC WER which previously suffered from exponential complexity.
We give an overview of commonly used WER definitions for multi-speaker scenarios and show that they are specializations of the above MIMO WER tuned to particular application scenarios.
We conclude with a discussion of the pros and cons of the various WER definitions and a recommendation when to use which.}},

It provides a unified interface for the computation of commonly used Word Error Rates (WERs), specifically cpWER, ORC WER and MIMO WER along other WER definitions.
We extend the cpWER computation by a temporal constraint to ensure that only words are identified as correct when the temporal alignment is plausible.
This leads to a better quality of the matching of the hypothesis string to the reference string that more closely resembles the actual transcription quality, and a system is penalized if it provides poor time annotations.
Since word-level timing information is often not available, we present a way to approximate exact word-level timings from segment-level timings (e.g., a sentence) and show that the approximation leads to a similar WER as a matching with exact word-level annotations.
At the same time, the time constraint leads to a speedup of the matching algorithm, which outweighs the additional overhead caused by processing the time stamps.}},

The Laser-Powder-Bed-Fusion (L-PBF) and Laser-Metal-Deposition (LMD) processes are considered, as they differ fundamentally in the way a part is manufactured. (2) Known process parameters for low-porosity parts were used to fabricate tensile strength specimens. Half of the specimens were heat-treated, and all specimens were tested for mechanical properties in a quasi-static tensile test. In addition, the material hardness was determined. (3) It was found that, firstly, heat treatment resulted in a sharp increase in mechanical properties such as hardness, elastic modulus, yield strength and ultimate strength. In addition to the increase in these properties, the elongation at break also decreases significantly after heat treatment. The choice of process, on the other hand, does not give either process a clear advantage in terms of mechanical properties but shows that it is necessary to consider the essential mechanical properties for a desired application.
}},
