abstract = {{Since her debut on Instagram in 2016, Lil Miquela has amassed over 3 million followers. She was the first of many virtual influencers; avatars with a hyper-realistic humanoid appearance who operate on social media. This article investigates how the fashioning of virtual influencers informs the relationship between virtual and human bodies. A visual and textual analysis of virtual influencers on Instagram has revealed that they are emblematic of a coalescence between the virtual and the actual. Virtual influencers often evoke discussions about human nature because their cyberpunk narratives and uncanny appearance position them as autonomous posthuman subjects. Virtual influencers are positioned as Bodies without Organs, as their bodies can be manipulated into any form. Yet, they adhere to normative ideals of youth, slimness and beauty, encouraging their audiences to follow suit. Their fashion reflects the streetwear aesthetic but is often designed by luxury brands. This strategy positions virtual influencers as authentic, while generating visibility within the attention economy. Further, the Deleuzian concept of the fold serves as a metaphor to understand fashion as an interface between surface and depth. It is fashion in its folded form that hominizes virtual influencers, although they are merely a fashionable surface.}},

Relative movements take place at the chain joint between pin and bush, which lead to wear of the chain joint due to friction and so to chain elongation. The chain joint is generally lubricated with oils, through which elastohydrodynamic processes can occur in the gap between the pin and the bush of the chain joint. A simulation model is developed here to examine these elastohydrodynamic processes considering a mass conserving cavitation model, the Newtonian flow behaviour of the lubricant and the structuring of the bush surface, whereby the real form of the bush is considered. abstract = {{The nonlinear process of second harmonic generation (SHG) in monolayer (1L) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD), like WS2, strongly depends on the polarization state of the excitation light. By combination of plasmonic nanostructures with 1L-WS2 by transferring it onto a plasmonic nanoantenna array, a hybrid metasurface is realized impacting the polarization dependency of its SHG. Here, we investigate how plasmonic dipole resonances affect the process of SHG in plasmonic–TMD hybrid metasurfaces by nonlinear spectroscopy. We show that the polarization dependency is affected by the lattice structure of plasmonic nanoantenna arrays as well as by the relative orientation between the 1L-WS2 and the individual plasmonic nanoantennas. In addition, such hybrid metasurfaces show SHG in polarization states, where SHG is usually forbidden for either 1L-WS2 or plasmonic nanoantennas. By comparing the SHG in these channels with the SHG generated by the hybrid metasurface components, we detect an enhancement of the SHG signal by a factor of more than 40. Meanwhile, an attenuation of the SHG signal in usually allowed polarization states is observed. Our study provides valuable insight into hybrid systems where symmetries strongly affect the SHG and enable tailored SHG in 1L-WS2 for future applications.}},

abstract = {{N-body methods are one of the essential algorithmic building blocks of high-performance and parallel computing. Previous research has shown promising performance for implementing n-body simulations with pairwise force calculations on FPGAs. However, to avoid challenges with accumulation and memory access patterns, the presented designs calculate each pair of forces twice, along with both force sums of the involved particles. Also, they require large problem instances with hundreds of thousands of particles to reach their respective peak performance, limiting the applicability for strong scaling scenarios. This work addresses both issues by presenting a novel FPGA design that uses each calculated force twice and overlaps data transfers and computations in a way that allows to reach peak performance even for small problem instances, outperforming previous single precision results even in double precision, and scaling linearly over multiple interconnected FPGAs. For a comparison across architectures, we provide an equally optimized CPU reference, which for large problems actually achieves higher peak performance per device, however, given the strong scaling advantages of the FPGA design, in parallel setups with few thousand particles per device, the FPGA platform achieves highest performance and power efficiency.}},

For selecting the most promising ideas, several methods exist which each focus on a certain aspect. Due to the characteristics of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) such as limited resources, these enterprises have special requirements on methods for selecting ideas. In this study, criteria of SMEs for idea selection are deducted from SME-characteristics. Methods for idea selection are tested for fulfillment of these criteria and the results are combined in a matrix. Together with a guideline, a tool for idea selection in innovation management of SMEs is developed. The results are validated in the context of innovation management in SMEs. Within the scope of the research project, four new mechanical joining processes for the singlestage, pre-hole-free joining of FRP-FRP joints were further developed. For this purpose, the joining processes under consideration were first implemented on existing equipment at the research institute. Based on the successful adaptation of the joining processes, characteristics of the joints were documented by means of micrographs and observation of external characteristics, on the basis of which measures for process modification were derived. The process modifications were carried out on a process-specific basis for a selected GFRPGFRP joint. The aim was to improve the joint quality, in particular with regard to the reduction of laminate damage, by means of targeted element and tool development in addition to the increase in process stability. Based on these results, a realistic suitability evaluation of the
joining methods was carried out with regard to process and manufacturing flexibility. As a result, two self-piercing riveting processes, which showed the greatest suitability potential, were examined in more detail to analyse the application limits. In the process, the joints were sampled on further material combinations with varied fibre and matrix systems. In addition, joints with adhesive were investigated, in which the influence of the adhesive viscosity on the joint properties was analysed. The joint properties of the new joining method were then comprehensively determined by tensile tests under quasi-static, cyclic loads. Finally, the behaviour of the optimised joints under corrosive load was characterised in the salt spray test. Through the targeted process modifications in this project, the FRP-FRP joints can be joined
with less damage, enabling improved joint quality in the FRP-based components.}},

While digitalization is characterized by the incorporation of digital technologies in the products and services as well as the value creation architectures, sustainability requires them to balance economic, environmental and social issues. In both areas, especially Product Service Systems (PSS) are constantly gaining importance. This results in so called smart PSS that integrate digital technologies as well as sustainable PSS which aim at a positive impact on sustainability. Both two concepts cannot be clearly delimited since smart PSS might be designed for sustainability as well and sustainable PSS might be used with digital technologies. This paper aims to investigate the interrelations. To that, digitalization patterns of products and services are evaluated regarding their sustainable impact. The evaluation is conducted by a survey in research and industry. Furthermore, the design of the underlying value creation architecture is investigated. It describes the problem of splitting a secret into different shares, without revealing any information to its shareholders. Here, we demonstrate an all-optical solution for secret sharing based on metasurface holography. In our concept, metasurface holograms are used as spatially separable shares that carry encrypted messages in the form of holographic images. Two of these shares can be recombined by bringing them close together. Light passing through this stack of metasurfaces accumulates the phase shift of both holograms and optically reconstructs the secret with high fidelity. In addition, the hologram generated by each single metasurface can uniquely identify its shareholder. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the inherent translational alignment sensitivity between two stacked metasurface holograms can be used for spatial multiplexing, which can be further extended to realize optical rulers.
}},

  abstract     = {{
Higher quality requirements by customers demand higher precision and accuracy from manufacturing processes. Application oriented preparation of semi-finished materials is key for subsequent forming operations, therefore, straightening machines are employed. Straightening strengthens the material by increasing plastic deformation by means of strain hardening, resulting in undesirable reduction in formability when processing high strength materials, in particular. Conventional roll-type straightening machines process either bars or strips. This is achieved upon passing material between rolls arranged in two staggered rows. However, conventional straightening processes do not adapt to the local varying distortion of coiled strips. Innovative, self-correcting process control techniques, which adapt to the initial geometric characteristics of the strip, present a promising approach to fix this issue through optimization of the leveling process. Here, an innovative strategy to improve straightening of high strength steel materials (1.4310) is presented. This implements optimized leveling, adding minimal plastic deformation and, thus, strain hardening. To operate an intelligent straightening machine, a reliable online measurement of the surface defects is fundamentally essential. The MagnaTest, which is developed for material testing, is made feasible for such purposes after calibrating for curvature measurement. Preliminary results are promising in regards to measuring the curvature online, so that the following straightening process can be close loop controlled. The bending measurement is linked to open/closed loop control, therefore providing an optimal straightening result in regards to formability, leveling, and reduced strain hardening.
}},
