Considering that wealth taxes have been (re-)introduced or are under discussion in many countries, investors need decision rules for tax systems with wealth taxation. We integrate different valuation methods for wealth tax purposes, distinguish between broadly and narrowly defined wealth taxes and vary the wealth tax rate to ascertain which wealth tax design is more or less likely to accelerate or delay investment. Our main findings are threefold. First, historical cost valuation reduces the distortive timing effects of wealth taxation compared to fair value accounting. Second, broadening the wealth tax base tends to accelerate investment during high interest rate periods and delay investment during low interest rate periods. Our results predict that wealth taxes with a broad tax base are likely to discourage risky investment in times of near-zero interest rates. These distortive wealth tax base effects, however, can be avoided by granting sufficiently high depreciation deductions for wealth tax purposes. Third, the investment timing effects of wealth tax rate variations are very sensitive to the riskiness of the underlying investment. Moreover, investment timing effects crucially depend upon the depreciation rate for wealth tax purposes. A tax legislator who aims to encourage risk taking should introduce generous depreciation deductions. Our study indicates that if a wealth tax is considered to be politically inevitable, possible harmful investment effects can be mitigated by choosing appropriate valuation methods and parameters."}],"publication":"Journal of Business Economics","issue":"4","type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"187"},{"_id":"635"}],"date_created":"2018-10-29T12:17:58Z","status":"public","user_id":"74000","volume":89,"page":"385-415","_id":"4996","publisher":"Springer Nature America, Inc","quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"mla":"Niemann, Rainer, and Caren Sureth-Sloane. “Investment Timing Effects of Wealth Taxes under Uncertainty and Irreversibility.” Journal of Business Economics, vol. 89, no. 4, Springer Nature America, Inc, 2019, pp. 385–415, doi:10.1007/s11573-018-0918-4.","bibtex":"@article{Niemann_Sureth-Sloane_2019, title={Investment Timing Effects of Wealth Taxes under Uncertainty and Irreversibility}, volume={89}, DOI={10.1007/s11573-018-0918-4}, number={4}, journal={Journal of Business Economics}, publisher={Springer Nature America, Inc}, author={Niemann, Rainer and Sureth-Sloane, Caren}, year={2019}, pages={385–415} }","ama":"Niemann R, Sureth-Sloane C. Nevertheless, the Siglo de Oro is still being used as a key term in contemporary academic works ‒ inside and outside Spain ‒ on the Early Modern period, but also as a highly controversial idea in political and ideological debates, especially on behalf of what may or may not be Spanish identity. This article seeks to give a brief overview of the discussions that try to define the Siglo de oro-concept and present the literary canon as well as the ideological implications linked to it. Starting in the aftermath of the epoch itself, that means the 18th century, it focuses on the convergence of political and esthetical discussions that oppose the ‘Two Spains’ during the 20th century on behalf of how to choose and interpret their ‘classics’. Finally, it tries to give a (necessarily incomplete) view on the actual situation, where the Golden Age myth still interferes not only in literary, but also socio-political debates. Ideological categories like ‘nation’ and ‘culture’ are weighed against frames that allow for more precise definitions, like local/regional repertoires or culture politics. Likewise, the opposed theoretical concepts of ‘reception’ and ‘production’ fundamentally affect the conceptualization of the musical ‘work’ entity. Taking cultural transfers into account has helped stimulating practice-oriented views of music history that no longer consider modifications or adaptations of works only as derivatives or even misunderstandings of ‘the original’, but, to the contrary, acknowledge them as historical facts and cultural expressions in their own rights. The examples of Richard Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Eduard Hanslick’s Die moderne Oper show how this was already a controversial issue in the 19th century under the impression of the international nature of the standard (French) opera repertoire of the time. A concluding section points out the possibilities for the coverage of culture transfer processes arising from the implementation of the FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) model in bibliographic authority data on the ‘work’ level. These “smart products”, which enable the co-creation of “smart service” that is based on monitoring, optimization, remote control, and autonomous adaptation of products, profoundly transform service systems into what we call “smart service systems”. In a multi-method study that includes conceptual research and qualitative data from in-depth interviews, we conceptualize “smart service” and “smart service systems” based on using smart products as boundary objects that integrate service consumers’ and service providers’ resources and activities. Smart products allow both actors to retrieve and to analyze aggregated field evidence and to adapt service systems based on contextual data. We discuss the implications that the introduction of smart service systems have for foundational concepts of service science and conclude that smart service systems are characterized by technology-mediated, continuous, and routinized interactions.","lang":"eng"}],"file":[{"date_created":"2024-04-18T12:53:07Z","creator":"dabe","file_id":"53575","content_type":"application/pdf","success":1,"relation":"main_file","date_updated":"2024-04-18T12:53:07Z","file_name":"Beverungen_et_al-Conceptualizing_Smart_Service_Systems.pdf","access_level":"closed","file_size":599681}],"date_created":"2018-10-12T08:24:45Z","keyword":["Boundary object","Internet of things","Service science","Smart products","Smart service"],"type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"195"}],"title":"Conceptualizing smart service systems","year":"2019","author":[{"id":"59677","first_name":"Daniel","last_name":"Beverungen","full_name":"Beverungen, Daniel"},{"full_name":"Müller, Oliver","first_name":"Oliver","last_name":"Müller","id":"72849"},{"first_name":"Martin","last_name":"Matzner","full_name":"Matzner, Martin"},{"last_name":"Mendling","first_name":"Jan","full_name":"Mendling, Jan"},{"full_name":"vom Brocke, Jan","last_name":"vom Brocke","first_name":"Jan"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["14228890"]},"date_updated":"2024-04-18T12:55:05Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 29","article_type":"original","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1007/s12525-017-0270-5"},{"volume":"Vol. 9","editor":[{"id":"58896","full_name":"Flath, Beate","last_name":"Flath","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1648-0796","first_name":"Beate"},{"last_name":"Behr","first_name":"Adam","full_name":"Behr, Adam"},{"full_name":"Cloonan, Martin ","last_name":"Cloonan","first_name":"Martin "}],"user_id":"14931","publisher":"IASPM","_id":"46820","page":"No.1","status":"public","oa":"1","quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"mla":"Flath, Beate, et al., editors. “Pop Music Festivals and (Cultural) Policies.” IASPM Journal , vol. (eds) 1986–97; Sadie (ed.) 1992–98). While opera composers’ interest in working with both visual projection technologies and modern communication media (such as telegraph, telephone and radio) goes back to the 1920s and 1930s (think of Satie, Weill, Krenek, Antheil, Milhaud, or Berg), magnetic tape recording and projection technology appears to be an especially prominent feature in operatic scores only after about 1950. Departing from a general survey of the corpus in question – that is, new music theatre works incorporating stored sound and sound projection directly on the level of composition – this chapter aims at proposing a (preliminary and certainly incomplete) categorization by discussing some of the observable paradigms of technological ‘extensions’ (to borrow an idea of Marshall McLuhan) as found, for example, in works by Mauricio Kagel, Pierre Schaeffer, Bruno Maderna, Renzo Rossellini, Karl-Birger Blomdahl, Luigi Nono, Boris Blacher, and Giacomo Manzoni.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2023-09-27T07:03:47Z","type":"book_chapter","department":[{"_id":"572"}],"year":"2019","title":"Composing New Media: Magnetic Tape Technology in New Music Theatre, c. 1950–1970","author":[{"first_name":"Andreas","last_name":"Münzmay","orcid":"0000-0002-8373-4055","full_name":"Münzmay, Andreas","id":"61139"}],"publication_identifier":{"isbn":["978-1-138-32301-8 "]},"date_updated":"2024-06-05T13:58:20Z","publication_status":"published","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://www.taylorfrancis.com/chapters/edit/10.4324/9780429451669-6/composing-new-media-andreas-m%C3%BCnzmay","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"series_title":"Musical cultures of the twentieth century","doi":"10.4324/9780429451669-6","citation":{"apa":"Münzmay, A.
