text: Physical self-concept (PSC) and motor competencies are important factors in
view of the development of a physically active lifestyle. There are research gaps
regarding longitudinal studies of these relationships. This article presents findings
    of a longitudinal study (n = 200; 58% girls, M = 8.84 ± 0.63 years) at three primary
schools. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between actual
motor competencies (AMC) and perceived motor competencies (PMC) and PSC. Therefore,
manifest path models in cross-lagged design were performed. Results show that
correlations between PMC and AMC increased over time and were stronger in object
control than in locomotor. Effects of AMC on PSC were more strongly mediated by
PMC in object control than in locomotor. To promote physical activity, developing
strategies should be aimed at the acquisition of AMC, particularly in object control,
and PMC, especially in locomotor, during childhood.

text: "To achieve optimum bond results at ultrasonic bonding thick copper wire on
sensitive components is quite challenging.\r\nBearing in mind that high normal
force and ultrasonic power are needed for bond quality but as well increase stress
and finally failure risk of the substrate, methods should be found to achieve
high bond quality even at lower bond parameters. Therefore, bond experiments with
different bond tool grove geometries have been conducted for copper and aluminum
wire on direct copper bonded (DCB) substrates to investigate the impact of geometric
parameters on bond formation and bond quality. The wire material depending impact
of geometry changes on the bond formation and deformation was quantified. Additionally,
a bonding parameter design of experiments (DOE) has been conducted for the reference
and the most promising groove geometry. Higher shear values were achieved at reduced
vertical tool displacement for most bonding parameter combinations, compared to
the reference tool. This behavior allows for reducing ultrasonic power to obtain
equal shear values; consequently, mechanical stresses in the interface decrease.
This could potentially reduce the risk of chip damage and thus yield loss."

text: 'ue to the constantly growing energy demand of power electronics and the need
to reduce the size of electronic components like power modules for e-mobility,
new challenges arise for ultrasonic wire bonding: the electrical connection must
endure higher thermal and mechanical stress while the connecting partners become
more sensitive or require more energy to get bonded. Past investigations have
shown already that multi-dimensional ultrasonic bonding and welding yield the
same or even better bond quality while reducing the load on the components. This
contribution is intended to show whether multidi-mensional thick wire bonding
is a promising concept to over-come the new challenges. The focus is on experimental
investi-gations of different bond tool trajectories in ultrasonic wire bonding
of aluminum and copper wire on DCB''s and chips. The bond quality is analyzed
by shear tests, microsections and, in the case of aluminum bonding, by a new machine
learning method for an objective automated evaluation of the sheared area.'

  text:
Students are not aware and have little understanding of collecting
and processing personal data in their everyday contexts of interaction with data-driven
digital artifacts. To be aware of where, how and why data are collected and processed
is important to be self-determined. Therefore, we develop and evaluate a teaching
sequence to provide reasoning about data as a fundamental aspect of statistical
literacy. This teaching sequences deals with the context of interaction with a
cellular network where location data are collected. Students get real location
data from an unknown person which can be explored with the aim to characterize
the person. Students gain different insights by using different basic filters
and explain how they achieve these. The results of the exploratory study indicate
that students learned to gain insights by exploring given location data and that
these insights may describe the person with detailed aspects that may not necessarily
    be true.

text: This paper presents preliminary work on the formalization of three prominent
cognitive biases in the diagnostic reasoning process over epileptic seizures,
psychogenic seizures and syncopes. Diagnostic reasoning is understood as iterative
exploration of medical evidence. This exploration is represented as a partially
observable Markov decision process where the state (i.e., the correct diagnosis)
is uncertain. Observation likelihoods and belief updates are computed using a
Bayesian network which defines the interrelation between medical risk factors,
diagnoses and potential findings. The decision problem is solved via partially
observable upper confidence bounds for trees in Monte-Carlo planning. We compute
a biased diagnostic exploration policy by altering the generated state transition,
observation and reward during look ahead simulations. The resulting diagnostic
policies reproduce reasoning errors which have only been described informally
in the medical literature. We plan to use this formal representation in the future
to inversely detect and classify biased reasoning in actual diagnostic trajectories
    obtained from physicians.

text: In control design most control strategies are model-based and require accurate
models to be applied successfully. Due to simplifications and the model-reality-gap
physics-derived models frequently exhibit deviations from real-world-systems.
Likewise, purely data-driven methods often do not generalise well enough and may
violate physical laws. Recently Physics-Guided Neural Networks (PGNN) and physics-inspired
loss functions separately have shown promising results to conquer these drawbacks.
In this contribution we extend existing methods towards the identification of
non-autonomous systems and propose a combined approach PGNN-L, which uses a PGNN
and a physics-inspired loss term (-L) to successfully identify the system's dynamics,
while maintaining the consistency with physical laws. The proposed method is demonstrated
on two real-world nonlinear systems and outperforms existing techniques regarding
    complexity and reliability.

text: 'While trade-offs between modeling effort and model accuracy remain a major
concern with system identification, resorting to data-driven methods often leads
to a complete disregard for physical plausibility. To address this issue, we propose
a physics-guided hybrid approach for modeling non-autonomous systems under control.
Starting from a traditional physics-based model, this is extended by a recurrent
neural network and trained using a sophisticated multi-objective strategy yielding
physically plausible models. While purely data-driven methods fail to produce
satisfying results, experiments conducted on real data reveal substantial accuracy
improvements by our approach compared to a physics-based model. '

text: "Ultrasonic wire bonding is a solid-state joining process used to form electrical
interconnections in micro and\r\npower electronics and batteries. A high frequency
oscillation causes a metallurgical bond deformation in\r\nthe contact area. Due
to the numerous physical influencing factors, it is very difficult to accurately
capture\r\nthis process in a model. Therefore, our goal is to determine a suitable
feed-forward control strategy for the\r\nbonding process even without detailed
model knowledge. We propose the use of batch constrained Bayesian\r\noptimization
for the control design. Hence, Bayesian optimization is precisely adapted to the
application of\r\nbonding: the constraint is used to check one quality feature
of the process and the use of batches leads to\r\nmore efficient experiments.
Our approach is suitable to determine a feed-forward control for the bonding\r\nprocess
that provides very high quality bonds without using a physical model. We also
show that the quality\r\nof the Bayesian optimization based control outperforms
random search as well as manual search by a user.\r\nUsing a simple prior knowledge
model derived from data further improves the quality of the connection.\r\nThe
Bayesian optimization approach offers the possibility to perform a sensitivity
analysis of the control\r\nparameters, which allows to evaluate the influence
of each control parameter on the bond quality. In summary,\r\nBayesian optimization
applied to the bonding process provides an excellent opportunity to develop a
feedforward\r\ncontrol without full modeling of the underlying physical processes."

text: The corrosion behavior of a hybrid material consisting of intrinsically bonded
carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy resin with laser-structured EN AW 6082 metal was
investigated. Particular attention was paid to the effects of the laser-structuring,
surface topography and the contacting. Pristine and hybridized specimens were
corroded in aqueous NaCl electrolyte (0.1 mol/l) using a potentiodynamic polarization
technique and subsequently analyzed using computed tomography, scanning electron-,
light- and laser scanning microscopy. The results show that the corrosive reaction
arises mainly from the aluminum component. Surface pretreatment of the aluminum
resulted in increasing corrosion rates, but showed no influence on the hybrids
corrosion properties. Optical micrographs suggest that the epoxy resin acts as
a sealant preventing galvanic corrosion between the aluminum and carbon fibers
by hindering the diffusion of the electrolyte into the joints. While corrosion
effects were observed locally at the aluminum surface, they were, contrary to
expectations, not enhanced on the hybrid interfaces.

  text: '
There is an increasing interest in sensing applications for a variety
of analytes in aqueous environments, as conventional methods do not work reliably
under humid conditions or they require complex equipment with experienced operators.
Hydrogel sensors are easy to fabricate, are incredibly sensitive, and have broad
dynamic ranges. Experiments on their robustness, reliability, and reusability
have indicated the possible long-term applications of these systems in a variety
of fields, including disease diagnosis, detection of pharmaceuticals, and in environmental
testing. It is possible to produce hydrogels, which, upon sensing a specific analyte,
can adsorb it onto their 3D-structure and can therefore be used to remove them
from a given environment. High specificity can be obtained by using molecularly
imprinted polymers. Typical detection principles involve optical methods including
fluorescence and chemiluminescence, and volume changes in colloidal photonic crystals,
as well as electrochemical methods. Here, we explore the current research utilizing
hydrogel-based sensors in three main areas: (1) biomedical applications, (2) for
detecting and quantifying pharmaceuticals of interest, and (3) detecting and quantifying
    environmental contaminants in aqueous environments.
'

text: One of the most powerful events in the still young 21st century is certainly
the outbreak of the coronavirus and the following COVID-19 pandemic. Massive economic
as well as social distress caused worldwide devastation. In Germany, not only
stores, factories, cultural facilities were closed, but also – for the first time
in history – schools were closed nationwide. Closed working sites and vocational
schools, as well as working sites, which remained open due to their systemic relevance,
led to so far unknown challenges in Germany’s vocational education system. A very
good example are the dual apprenticeships, such as trained retail salesman, which
were only partially affected by closures. The main goal of education policy was
to compensate personal communication and interaction via digital media. This article’s
main aim is to reveal the strategies vocational schools have developed to overcome
the challenges they had to face because of the pandemic.

text: Subwavelength dielectric resonators assembled into metasurfaces have become
a versatile tool for miniaturizing optical components approaching the nanoscale.
An important class of metasurface functionalities is associated with asymmetry
in both the generation and transmission of light with respect to reversals of
the positions of emitters and receivers. The nonlinear light–matter interaction
in metasurfaces offers a promising pathway towards miniaturization of the asymmetric
control of light. Here we demonstrate asymmetric parametric generation of light
in nonlinear metasurfaces. We assemble dissimilar nonlinear dielectric resonators
into translucent metasurfaces that produce images in the visible spectral range
on being illuminated by infrared radiation. By design, the metasurfaces produce
different and completely independent images for the reversed direction of illumination,
that is, when the positions of the infrared emitter and the visible light receiver
are exchanged. Nonlinearity-enabled asymmetric control of light by subwavelength
resonators paves the way towards novel nanophotonic components via dense integration
of large quantities of nonlinear resonators into compact metasurface designs.

text: The free exciton transition (near-band-edge emission, NBE) of ZnO at ≈388
nm can be strongly enhanced and even stimulated by an underlying photonic structure.
1D Photonic crystals, so-called distributed Bragg reflectors, are utilized to
suppress the deep-level emission of ZnO (DLE, ≈500–530 nm). The reflector stacks
are fabricated in a layer-by-layer procedure by wet-chemical synthesis. They consist
of low-ε porous SiO2 layers and high-ε TiO2 layers. Varying the thickness of the
SiO2 layers allows tuning the optical bandgap in a wide range between ≈420 and
800 nm. A ZnO layer is deposited on top of the reflector stacks by sol–gel synthesis.
The spontaneous photoluminescence (PL) emission of the ZnO film is modulated by
the photonic structure. When the optical bandgap of the reflector is in resonance
with the deep-level emission of ZnO (DLE, ≈500–530 nm), then this defect-related
emission mode is suppressed. Strong NBE emission is observed even when the ZnO
layer does not show any NBE emission (due to low crystallinity) in the absence
of the photonic structure. With this cost-efficient synthesis method, emitters
for, e.g., luminescent gas sensors can be fabricated.
