text:
In the engineering of complex technical systems, Systems Engineering
(SE) is a key approach that is becoming increasingly relevant in more and more
industries due to the ever-increasing complexity of systems. Over the decades
of practical application and research, various specializations and forms of the
Systems Engineering approach have developed, but there has so far been a lack
of an overarching context and positioning in meaningful stages for the introduction
of Systems Engineering in companies. For this reason, this research will systematize
common Systems Engineering approaches and bring them together in a stage model
for Systems Engineering. Based on a systematic literature review, use cases are
identified for each approach and stage, which support companies in selecting an
approach suitable for their own organization.

text:
This research investigates how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be
systematically integrated into existing business processes by combining suitable
competencies with graphical AI workflow modelling. While AI offers a high potential
for automation and increased efficiency, its implementation often fails due to
a lack of interdisciplinary competencies that bridge the gap between domain expertise
and IT know-how. Low-code platforms and visual modelling tools are increasingly
recognised as enablers, empowering non-programmers to intuitively create graphical
AI- based workflows. Nevertheless, specific competencies are required to realise
the full potential of AI, the domain specific knowledge and align technical understanding
with AI capabilities. The paper reviews the state of the art in AI-driven business
process automation and competencies for visual low-code approaches. It then presents
a practical solution to identify and systematise essential competence areas. Based
on this, a practical competence model is developed to support the design of user-friendly,
AI-enabled workflows. This is tested in a practical application context — emergency
management — where it supports critical decision-making processes and is validated
through expert feedback. The study concludes by offering actionable recommendations
to help organisations foster the necessary competencies and methods for competently
integrating AI into their digital processes.

text: his article describes a new student-based approach to Decoding and Disrupting.
This approach consists of an educational programme that works with a multidisciplinary
group of undergraduate students, so-called Culture Fellows. In the programme,
the students learn about theories on disciplinary cultures and their practices,
Decoding the Disciplines, and communication. The programme focuses on the implicitness
of disciplinary practices and how to explore them, i.e., it seeks to address the
importance of making disciplinary practices, norms, and values more accessible
to students. Within the programme, the Culture Fellows use a student-based variant
of the Decoding the Disciplines Paradigm that we call ‘Culture Quest’. The Culture
Quest supplies students with the tools to question, explore, and decode their
respective disciplines and practices. Disciplinary practices often remain implicit
because lecturers, with their wealth of experience and expertise in their discipline,
may be operationally blind and thus no longer aware of the fact that certain practices
might need to be explained. This lack of explanation or explicitness can lead
to students feeling bewildered, confused or puzzled. The Culture Fellows and in
particular the Culture Quest can encourage dialogue about and exploration of disciplinary
cultures and their practices and can thus allow students to grasp the implicit
cultural norms and expectations within their respective disciplines more clearly.
The Culture Fellows and the Culture Quest provide students – and maybe even lecturers
– with opportunities to engage with and reflect on teaching and learning strategies
and practices.

text: "With the rise of multimodal AI tools, such as DALL-E, Midjourney, or Stable\r\nDiffusion,
it has never been easier and faster to produce compelling fashion\r\nimages. While
the proliferation of AI-generated fashion images can be\r\nseen as the ultimate
triumph of the fashion image over both fashion text\r\nand fashionable garments,
this paper critically examines how these images\r\nare produced, what exactly
they show, and ultimately, how this impacts our\r\nunderstanding of fashion. Building
on current research on multimodal AI,\r\nspecifically text-to-image models, I
argue that AI-generated fashion images\r\nare produced through textual means,
that is, through “operative ekphrasis”\r\n(Bajohr 2024: 83). This means that the
generation of fashion images created\r\nvia multimodal AI is based on textual
prompts that extract statistically\r\nprobable images from a latent space, which,
in turn, is the result of previously\r\nindexed and labeled image-text pairs.
Because the indexing of images\r\nrequires a reduction of complexity, images generated
through multimodal\r\nAI are often generic. In the case of fashion images, this
is reflected in the lack\r\nof texture and the reproduction of fashion photography’s
conventions. As\r\nfashion photography is not necessarily a representation of
‘the world’ or even\r\nfashionable garments, it resembles AI-generated images
more than other photographic\r\ngenres. AI-generated fashion images are then not
images of fashionable\r\ngarments, but images about fashion images—a statistically
probable permutation\r\nof fashion photographs from the past (cf. Meyer 2023:
108). As such,\r\nAI-generated fashion images are not only the product of a mediated
collective\r\nimaginary but also feed back into it. The view on fashion shaped
by AI-generated\r\nfashion images is then based on reduction and stylized normativity."

text:
Abstract
Lignin, a widely available and renewable
organic polymer, has several desirable properties and applications. However, as
a by‐product of pulp and paper industry, it is mainly burned for energy. Limited
understanding of the complex and heterogeneous structure and a shortage of tailored
analysis methods hinder its utilization in higher value applications. This study
describes and compares the use of two different static light scattering methods,
laser diffraction and small‐angle light scattering (SALS), for studying lignin
particle size in suspension. The results from laser diffraction showed that the
selected particle concentration and absorption coefficient affect the measured
sizes especially for particles <1 µm in diameter. For irregularly shaped particles
with broad size distributions, sampling is the most important parameter affecting
the results. SALS proved an efficient method for obtaining information on particle
aggregation by providing primary particle sizes as well as aggregate sizes. Characterization
of samples with spherical particles and narrow size distributions is straightforward
with both laser diffraction and SALS, whereas the interpretation of results for
more heterogeneous samples is less obvious. Static light scattering methods could
make lignin particle size analysis more rapid and automated, thus enhancing lignin
valorization, but should be applied carefully to avoid systematic errors.

text: Optical tweezer arrays of laser-cooled and individually controlled particles
have revolutionized atomic, molecular, and optical physics. They afford exquisite
capabilities for applications in quantum simulation of many-body physics, quantum
computation, and sensing. Underlying this development is the technical maturity
of generating scalable optical beams, enabled by active components and a high
numerical aperture objective. However, such a complex combination of bulk optics
outside the vacuum chamber is very sensitive to any vibration and drift. Here,
we demonstrate the generation of a 3 × 3 static tweezer array with a single chip-scale
multifunctional metasurface element in vacuum, replacing the meter-long free space
optics. Fluorescence counts on the camera validate the successful trapping of
the atomic ensemble array and showcase a promising strategy for integrated photonics
with cold atom systems. The introduction of a polarization independent dual-wavelength
metasurface significantly enhances fluorescence collection efficiency while reducing
experimental complexity. This approach paves the way for scalable neutral atom
platforms and offers a compelling route towards the realization of next generation
quantum metasurfaces.

text: Anti-Islam and anti-Muslim attitudes are frequently perceived without sufficient
differentiation. The absence of a clear distinction between attitudes towards
individuals and attitudes towards the religion itself is evident in definitions
that conflate (attitudes towards) Islam and Muslims, as well as in the operationalization
process where surveys on overtly anti-Muslim attitudes are labelled as measuring
anti-Islam attitudes. To explore whether the interchangeable usage of these terms
is valid or whether there is empirical evidence supporting the need to differentiate
between anti-Islam and anti-Muslim attitudes, an online survey was conducted (n
= 497). The results indicate that anti-Islam and anti- Muslim attitudes are statistically
distinct constructs that are nevertheless correlated. Furthermore, the study investigates
the extent to which variations in the degree of hostile attitudes towards Islam
and Muslims can be observed. The findings reveal that Islam is evaluated significantly
more negatively than Muslims. In addition, an analysis of free associations related
to the terms Islam and Muslims highlights notable differences. Although the respondents
oftentimes see Muslims in the context of migration and integration, associations
with Muslims tend to be more positive and based on personal experiences and interactions
than associations with Islam. Associations with Islam, on the other hand, are
characterized by threat and conflict and externalization to foreign countries.
These findings have important implications for the theoretical conceptualization
of anti- Islam and anti-Muslim attitudes. By differentiating between anti-Islam
and anti- Muslim attitudes, it becomes possible to deconstruct these phenomena
into their constituent elements and to understand their various dimensions. It
is only through such disentanglement that the interconnected nature of anti-Islam
and anti-Muslim attitudes can be comprehensively examined and effectively addressed.

text: Zero-shot classifiers based on Contrastive Language-Audio Pretraining (CLAP)
models enable classification of given audio into classes defined at test time
using text. These models are costly to run with respect to computation and memory
requirements. In this work, we propose to build a specialized low-resource classifier
for classes pre-defined using text, using a two-stage procedure consisting of
zero-shot data set pruning and model compression. First, relevant in-domain data
is selected from a source dataset using class label embeddings obtained from a
pre-trained CLAP model. This data is then used to distill the audio encoder of
a CLAP model. The proposed compression method produces compact audio encoders
with slightly reduced accuracy. Note that neither labeled nor unlabeled in-domain
audio data is required for its development. We verify by cross-dataset tests that
the resulting classifiers are indeed specialized to their task.

Dies\r\nhat
zur Folge, dass sich eine fein lamellare Si-Morphologie bei der Erstarrung ausbildet;

text: "Aluminium-silicon alloys (AlSi) are used in the casting of lightweight vehicle
components. This\r\nalloy system has excellent casting properties accompanied
by acceptable mechanical properties. Due to\r\nthe high silicon (Si) content,
which almost completely prevents volume contraction during the liquid-solid\r\nphase
transition, AlSi alloys tend to form finer or coarser Si plates at different solidification
rates. To\r\nimprove the mechanical properties, either sodium (Na) or strontium
(Sr) is added to the alloy system in\r\nthe melting phase. This results in the
formation of a fine lamellar Si morphology during solidification, which\r\ncan
also be achieved by high solidification rates. Subsequent solution annealing causes
spheroidisation\r\nof the Si particles and increases ductility. Currently, there
is a lack in scientific knowledge regarding the\r\nSi-morphology as a function
of solidification rate or as a result of heat treatment. Therefore, this study\r\nevaluates
various treatment parameters in relation to the shaping behaviour of Si particles
using an image\r\nanalysis method and correlates them with different chemical
compositions."

text: "This article takes the recurring protests by spectators against the commercialization\r\nof
football as its starting point and addresses the question of how these protests
can be\r\nexplained. While spectator protests have already been widely studied,
no theoretical framework\r\nhas yet been provided to explain their development.
Therefore, the aim of this contribution\r\nis to offer theoretical explanations
for the origins and significance of spectator protests,\r\ndrawing on systems
theory — particularly regarding the function of the audience in football —\r\nas
well as typological distinctions enriched by cultural anthropological perspectives.
Subsequently,\r\nthe article explores how spectator protests can be embedded within
theoretical\r\nconcepts of protest movements and, finally, assesses their potential
value for football clubs\r\nand associations."

text: "Coherent Raman scattering techniques as coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering
(CARS), offer significant advantages in terms of pixel dwell times and speed as
compared to spontaneous Raman scattering for investigations of crystalline materials.
However, the spectral information in CARS is often hampered by the presence of
a nonresonant contribution to the scattering process that shifts and distorts
the Raman peaks. In this work, we apply a method to obtain nonresonant background-free
spectra based on time-delayed, broadband CARS (TD-BCARS) using an intrapulse excitation
scheme. In particular, this method can measure the phononic dephasing times across
the full phonon spectrum at once. We test the methodology on amorphous SiO2 (glass),
which is used to characterize the setup-specific and material-independent response
times, and then apply TD-BCARS to the analysis of single crystals of diamond and
ferroelectrics of potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) and potassium titanyl arsenate
(KTA). For diamond, we determine a dephasing time of \U0001D70F=7.81 ps for the
single \U0001D460⁢\U0001D45D3 peak."
