Research shows that examining outlays by individual BI&A artifact (e.g. reports, analytics) is necessary, but introduction in practice is cumbersome and adoption is slow. BI&A service-oriented cost allocation (BIASOCA) represents an improvement to this situation. This approach enables to render the BI&A cost pool accountable and improves cost transparency, which leads to a higher BI&A penetration of economically viable applications in organizations. Against this background, this paper aims at designing and implementing BIASOCA in a medium-sized company. To record organizational impact and increase customer acceptance, this study is carried out as action design research (ADR). Our findings indicate improvements in BI&A management from working with consumers to locate cost savings and drivers. After invoicing, consumers’ BI&A awareness increased, releasing resources while also making a better understanding of BIASOCA necessary. We detail how to implement BIASOCA in a real-life setting and the challenges attendant in so doing. Their method relies on a technical result stating that R-trivial monoid are equivalent to so-called weakly ordered monoids. We provide an alternative algorithm, based only on the simple observation that an R-trivial monoid may be realized by upper triangular matrices. This approach is inspired by results in the field of coupled cell network dynamical systems, where L-trivial monoids (the opposite notion) correspond to so-called feed-forward networks. We first show that our algorithm works for ZM, after which we prove that it also works for RM where R is an arbitrary ring with a known complete system of primitive orthogonal idempotents. In particular, our algorithm works if R is any field. In this respect our result constitutes a considerable generalization of the results in Berg et al. [J. Algebra 348 (2011) 446–461]. Moreover, the system of idempotents for RM is obtained from the one our algorithm yields for ZM in a straightforward manner. In other words, for any finite R-trivial monoid M our algorithm only has to be performed for ZM, after which a system of idempotents follows for any ring with a given system of idempotents.}}, author = {{Nijholt, Eddie and Rink, Bob and Schwenker, Sören}}, issn = {{0219-4988}}, journal = {{Journal of Algebra and Its Applications}}, keywords = {{Applied Mathematics, Algebra and Number Theory}}, number = {{12}}, publisher = {{World Scientific Pub Co Pte Ltd}}, title = {{{A new algorithm for computing idempotents of ℛ-trivial monoids}}}, doi = {{10.1142/s0219498821502273}}, volume = {{20}}, year = {{2020}}, } @article{33263, abstract = {{Dynamical systems often admit geometric properties that must be taken into account when studying their behavior. For example, Q(i,j) could be the fraction of voters in a population who prefer candidate i to candidate j. In the literature, various attempts have been made at generalizing the notion of transitivity to reciprocal relations. In this paper, we compare three important frameworks of generalized transitivity: g-stochastic transitivity, T-transitivity, and cycle-transitivity. To this end, we introduce E-transitivity as an even more general notion. We also use this framework to extend an existing hierarchy of different types of transitivity. As an illustration, we study transitivity properties of probabilities of pairwise preferences, which are induced as marginals of an underlying probability distribution on rankings (strict total orders) of a set of alternatives. This RCT examined the effect of an untreated vitamin D deficiency compared to an immediate vitamin D3 supplementation on depression scores in children and adolescents during standard day and in-patient psychiatric treatment. Methods Patients with vitamin D deficiency [25(OH)D ≤ 30 nmol/l] and at least mild depression [Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II) > 13] (n = 113) were 1:1 randomized into verum (VG; 2640 IU vitamin D3/d) or placebo group (PG) in a double-blind manner. During the intervention period of 28 days, both groups additionally received treatment as usual. BDI-II scores were assessed as primary outcome, DISYPS-II (Diagnostic System for Mental Disorders in Childhood and Adolescence, Self- and Parent Rating) and serum total 25(OH)D were secondary outcomes. Results At admission, 49.3% of the screened patients (n = 280) had vitamin D deficiency. Although the intervention led to a higher increase of 25(OH)D levels in the VG than in the PG (treatment difference: + 14 ng/ml; 95% CI 4.86–23.77; p = 0.003), the change in BDI-II scores did not differ (+ 1.3; 95% CI − 2.22 to 4.81; p = 0.466). In contrast, DISYPS parental ratings revealed pronounced improvements of depressive symptoms in the VG (− 0.68; 95% CI − 1.23 to − 0.13; p = 0.016). Conclusion Whereas this study failed to show a vitamin D supplementation effect on self-rated depression in adolescent in- or daycare patients, parents reported less depressive symptoms in VG at the end of our study. Whey protein plus potassium bicarbonate diet-supplementation (NUTR) could attenuate this effect by improving oxidative metabolism. We evaluated the impact of 21-day BR and NUTR on fatigue resistance of plantar flexor muscles (PF) during repeated shortening contractions, and whether any change was related to altered energy metabolism and muscle oxygenation. Methods Ten healthy men received a standardized isocaloric diet with (n = 5) or without (n = 5) NUTR. Eight bouts of 24 concentric plantar flexions (30 s each bout) with 20 s rest between bouts were employed. PF muscle size was assessed by means of peripheral quantitative computed tomography. PF muscle volume was assessed with magnetic resonance imaging. PF muscle force, contraction velocity, power and surface electromyogram signals were recorded during each contraction, as well as energy metabolism (31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy) and oxygenation (near-infrared spectroscopy). Cardiopulmonary parameters were measured during an incremental cycle exercise test. Results BR caused 10–15% loss of PF volume that was partly recovered 3 days after re-ambulation, as a consequence of fluid redistribution. Unexpectedly, PF fatigue resistance was not affected by BR or NUTR. BR induced a shift in muscle metabolism toward glycolysis and some signs of impaired muscle oxygen extraction. NUTR did not attenuate the BR-induced-shift in energy metabolism. Conclusions Twenty-one days’ BR did not impair PF fatigue resistance, but the shift to glycolytic metabolism and indications of impaired oxygen extraction may be early signs of developing reduced muscle fatigue resistance. }}, author = {{Bosutti, Alessandra and Mulder, Edwin and Zange, Jochen and Bühlmeier, Judith and Ganse, Bergita and Degens, Hans}}, issn = {{1439-6319}}, journal = {{European Journal of Applied Physiology}}, keywords = {{Physiology (medical), Public Health, Environmental and Occupational Health, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, General Medicine, Public Health, Environmental and Occupational Health, Physiology}}, number = {{5}}, pages = {{969--983}}, publisher = {{Springer Science and Business Media LLC}}, title = {{{Effects of 21 days of bed rest and whey protein supplementation on plantar flexor muscle fatigue resistance during repeated shortening contractions}}}, doi = {{10.1007/s00421-020-04333-5}}, volume = {{120}}, year = {{2020}}, } @article{27018, abstract = {{Acute anorexia nervosa (AN) constitutes an extreme physiological state.
