TY - GEN AB - For suitable finite-dimensional smooth manifolds M (possibly with various kinds of boundary or corners), locally convex topological vector spaces F and non-negative integers k, we construct continuous linear operators S_n from the space of F-valued k times continuously differentiable functions on M to the corresponding space of smooth functions such that S_n(f) converges to f in C^k(M,F) as n tends to infinity, uniformly for f in compact subsets of C^k(M,F). We also study the existence of continuous linear right inverses for restriction maps from C^k(M,F) to C^k(L,F) if L is a closed subset of M, endowed with a C^k-manifold structure turning the inclusion map from L to M into a C^k-map. Moreover, we construct continuous linear right inverses for restriction operators between spaces of sections in vector bundles in many situations, and smooth local right inverses for restriction operators between manifolds of mappings. We also obtain smoothing results for sections in fibre bundles. We study flows of time-dependent real-analytic vector fields on $M$ which are integrable functions in time, and their dependence on the time-dependent vector field. Notably, we show that the Lie group $G$ is $L^1$-regular in the sense that each $[\gamma]$ in $L^1([0,1],{\mathfrak g})$ has an evolution which is an absolutely continuous $G$-valued function on $[0,1]$ and smooth in $[\gamma]$. As tools for the proof, we develop several new results concerning $L^p$-regularity of infinite-dimensional Lie groups, for $1\leq p\leq \infty$, which will be useful also for the discussion of other classes of groups. Moreover, we obtain new results concerning the continuity and complex analyticity of non-linear mappings on open subsets of locally convex direct limits. Conversion efficiencies as a function of load have been measured indoors with high accuracy and ranked according to Euro- and CEC weightings. Energy yields have been measured outdoors via identical and calibrated crystalline silicon PV modules of 215 Wp each. Inverters with two inputs have been fed by two of those modules. DC input, AC power output and energy yield of each micro-inverter have been recorded by individual calibrated electricity meters. Apparently, some inverters have been optimized for high irradiance levels and ranked better at the CEC efficiency ranking, others performed very well also at low irradiance levels, thus ranking higher at in the EU efficiency ranking. Efficiency ranks are slightly deviating from rankings by energy yield measurements. At one inverter, a slow MPPT algorithm that barely could follow quickly changing irradiance levels is most probably responsible for this effect. Another inverter switched off for a while after operation at high power, another one failed permanently. Apparently, some inverters are been optimized to show excellent datasheet ratings for EU- or CEC- efficiency. On the other hand, two inverters (each featuring two inputs) did not show an outstanding performance at the EU- and CEC-ratings but achieved leading ranks for AC energy yields. For the customer, AC yield is a major performance indicator of a microinverter and should be included in the datasheet. Due to the present inflexibility and the lack of sufficient throttling capabilities of lignite and nuclear power plants, a surplus of electricity generation occurs during periods of high wind and solar power generation. While the specific CO2- emission is decreasing then ‒ due to the increased share of Renewables, the grid frequency is increasing (to a certain limit). Using the grid frequency as an indicator to switch-on and off certain loads (loads that do not require power permanently (e.g. dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, fridges and freezers, heaters) could provide a simple, inexpensive demand-side management indicator to lower specific CO2‒emssions and costs (if a dynamic consumption tariff is available). To check the truthfulness of that hypothesis, the grid and frequency data of the German grid of the year 2018 have been collected and a the correlation between grid frequency, power surplus, share of renewables vs. CO2-contents and price at the European energy exchange (EEX) have been calculated. The results show: Correlation between frequency and share of renewables is quite low (r = 0.155) due to the fact that primary grid control quickly compensates deviations from the 50 Hz nominal frequency. There is a good anti-correlation (r = - 0.687) between the EEX‒prices and the share of renewables in the grid. Over the years, correlation between electricity trading prices (EEX) and CO2 emissions is quite good (r =0.665), within the one year (2018) that correlation almost doesn’t exist, possibly due to the inflexibility of the bulky lignite power plants that even operate at negative prices. ER - TY - CONF AB - Due to the strong reduction of PV prices, storage plays a dominating role in overall system costs. A steeper elevation angle would result in a more balanced seasonal PV yield, at the cost of PV yield reductions during summer, but allowing reduced storage capacities. Additionally, the effect of a single-axis tracking system has been investigated, generating more electricity during the morning and evening hours, thus reducing daily storage requirements. The necessary PV size and storage capacities required for the German energy supply (1,500 TWh after electrification of all sectors) via 100% renewable energies and a 50% solar share have been calculated via the HOMER Pro software, considering the bridging of periods of "dark lulls“ in winter, using costs of 2030 (Table 1). Results: The increase of module elevation angles above the typical 30° leads to a reduction of investment and supply costs. The optimum is reached at a cost reduction of -1.5% for an elevation angle at the latitude of the installation site. An explanation is that high elevation angles are favorable for clear winter days, but not at all for the critical days with diffuse irradiance only, so the battery capacity must be increased. For the same reason, tracking systems do not offer any cost advantage (at least for the ones without an option for horizontal positioning during diffuse days). The other category of issues is thermal: As a first explanation for observed reduced energy yields, it has been assumed that the conversion efficiency degrades at higher operating temperatures. This matter has been investigated in this article: A change in conversion efficiency could not be observed for elevated operation temperatures up to 50°C, despite high-precision and repeated measurements. But it was found that some inverters temporarily interrupted (or entirely stopped) operation after long periods of running at high temperatures. Also, a reduction in potential maximum power output has been detected for those inverters. Summarizing: With a high degree of certainty it can be stated that those reported yield losses have been caused by the temporary shutdowns and power limitations of the inverters. (2) SET is commonly viewed as a control tool deserving methodological improvement, while bias is debated in the US. We also found local trajectories: (3) Whereas in the US and Latin America SET is primarily seen as a management tool, German-speaking and Chinese authors reflect more on improving teaching. Chinese scholars consider SET a valid instrument for state control associated with artificial intelligence. Also, (4) SET is commonly used in medical education in the US and the German-speaking region and in physical education in China. In this paper we dissect the gains of the time-domain audio separation network (TasNet) approach by gradually replacing components of an utterance-level permutation invariant training (u-PIT) based separation system in the frequency domain until the TasNet system is reached, thus blending components of frequency domain approaches with those of time domain approaches. Some of the intermediate variants achieve comparable signal-to-distortion ratio (SDR) gains to TasNet, but retain the advantage of frequency domain processing: compatibility with classic signal processing tools such as frequency-domain beamforming and the human interpretability of the masks. Furthermore, we show that the scale invariant signal-to-distortion ratio (si-SDR) criterion used as loss function in TasNet is related to a logarithmic mean square error criterion and that it is this criterion which contributes most reliable to the performance advantage of TasNet. Finally, we critically assess which gains in a noise-free single channel environment generalize to more realistic reverberant conditions. This is also the case for control problems, where optimal solutions can degrade in quality or even become infeasible. Thus, there is the need to design methods that can handle uncertainty. In this work, we consider nonlinear multi-objective optimal control problems with uncertainty on the initial conditions, and in particular their incorporation into a feedback loop via model predictive control (MPC). In multi-objective optimal control, an optimal compromise between multiple conflicting criteria has to be found. For such problems, not much has been reported in terms of uncertainties. To address this problem class, we design an offline/online framework to compute an approximation of efficient control strategies. This approach is closely related to explicit MPC for nonlinear systems, where the potentially expensive optimization problem is solved in an offline phase in order to enable fast solutions in the online phase. In order to reduce the numerical cost of the offline phase, we exploit symmetries in the control problems. Furthermore, in order to ensure optimality of the solutions, we include an additional online optimization step, which is considerably cheaper than the original multi-objective optimization problem. We test our framework on a car maneuvering problem where safety and speed are the objectives. The multi-objective framework allows for online adaptations of the desired objective. Alternatively, an automatic scalarizing procedure yields very efficient feedback controls. Our results show that the method is capable of designing driving strategies that deal better with uncertainties in the initial conditions, which translates into potentially safer and faster driving strategies. The prices are regulated and providers compete in location and quality. We show that whereas opening a public hospital market typically raises quality, the private provider strategically locates towards the corner of the market to avoid costly quality competition. Social welfare depends on the size of the regulator's budget and on the altruism of the public provider. If the budget is large, high quality results and welfare is highest in a duopoly whenever entry is optimal. If the budget is small, quality levels in a duopoly mirror the quality level in a monopoly. Self-adaptive user interfaces (SAUIs) have been promoted as a solution for context variability due to their ability to automatically adapt to the context-of-use at runtime. The development of SAUIs is a challenging and complex task as additional aspects like context management and UI adaptation have to be covered. In classical model-driven UI development approaches, these aspects are not fully integrated and hence introduce additional complexity as they represent crosscutting concerns. In this paper, we present an integrated model-driven development approach where a classical model-driven development of UIs is coupled with a model-driven development of context-of-use and UI adaptation rules. We base our approach on the core UI modeling language IFML and introduce new modeling languages for context-of-use (ContextML) and UI adaptation rules (AdaptML). The generated UI code, based on the IFML model, is coupled with the context and adaptation services, generated from the ContextML and AdaptMLmodel, respectively. The integration of the generated artifacts, namely UI code, context, and adaptation services in an overall rule-based execution environment, enables runtime UI adaptation. The benefit of our approach is demonstrated by two case studies, showing the development of SAUIs for different application scenarios and a usability study which has been conducted to analyze end-user satisfaction of SAUIs. As the use of intuition in business has become more widely accepted, companies struggle to understand how to use this additional resource efficiently, while corporate trainers and university educators lack tools to develop it as a skill. This truly international Handbook provides relevant answers with: • chapters by academics and practitioners, written in a concise, digestible format to make it accessible to non-academic readers • empirical studies from multiple industry/service sectors that demonstrate an integrated use of intuition and analysis in decision making • studies from industry and education that demonstrate how to develop intuition, including a ground-breaking research in problem solving • non-Western perspectives illustrated on case studies from Japan and China • use of language protocols/methods to bring intuition into our awareness • new research into group/collective intuition (based on language analysis and quantum physics) • research related to sensing and sense making. Due to its focus on bridging theory and practice, the Handbook is of value not only to academics and organizational researchers but also to industry professionals, corporate trainers and university educators who search for answers on how to incorporate intuition into a common skill set. For more general perturbations we get bounds on the multiplicity of the resonance zero on all one-forms in terms of the first and zeroth Betti numbers.
