  abstract     = {{In all fields, the significance of a reliable and accurate predictive model is almost unquantifiable. With deep domain knowledge, models derived from first principles typically outperforms other models in terms of reliability and accuracy. When it may become a cumbersome or an unachievable task to build or validate such models of complex (non-linear) systems, machine learning techniques are employed to build predictive models. However, the accuracy of such techniques is not only dependent on the hyper-parameters of the chosen algorithm, but also on the amount and quality of data. This paper investigates the application of classical time series forecasting approaches for the reliable prognostics of technical systems, where black box machine learning techniques might not successfully be employed given insufficient amount of data and where first principles models are infeasible due to lack of domain specific data. Forecasting by analogy, forecasting by analytical function fitting, an exponential smoothing forecasting method and the long short-term memory (LSTM) are evaluated and compared against the ground truth data. As a case study, the methods are applied to predict future crack lengths of riveted aluminium plates under cyclic loading. The performance of the predictive models is evaluated based on error metrics leading to a proposal of when to apply which forecasting approach.}},

  abstract     = {{FPGAs have found increasing adoption in data center applications since a new generation of high-level tools have become available which noticeably reduce development time for FPGA accelerators and still provide high-quality results. There is, however, no high-level benchmark suite available, which specifically enables a comparison of FPGA architectures, programming tools, and libraries for HPC applications. To fill this gap, we have developed an OpenCL-based open-source implementation of the HPCC benchmark suite for Xilinx and Intel FPGAs. This benchmark can serve to analyze the current capabilities of FPGA devices, cards, and development tool flows, track progress over time, and point out specific difficulties for FPGA acceleration in the HPC domain. Additionally, the benchmark documents proven performance optimization patterns. We will continue optimizing and porting the benchmark for new generations of FPGAs and design tools and encourage active participation to create a valuable tool for the community.   abstract     = {{<jats:p>Using rich linked employer–employee data for (West) Germany between 1996 and 2014, we conduct a decomposition analysis based on recentered influence function (RIF) regressions to analyze the relative contributions of various plant and worker characteristics to the rise in German wage dispersion. Moreover, we separately investigate the sources of between‐plant and within‐plant wage dispersion. We find that industry effects and the collective bargaining regime contribute the most to rising wage inequality. In the case of collective bargaining, both the decline in collective bargaining coverage and the increase in wage dispersion among the group of covered plants have played important roles.</jats:p>}},

  abstract     = {{In this work we present a set-oriented path following method for the computation of relative global
attractors of parameter-dependent dynamical systems. We start with an initial approximation of the
relative global attractor for a fixed parameter λ0 computed by a set-oriented subdivision method.
By using previously obtained approximations of the parameter-dependent relative global attractor
we can track it with respect to a one-dimensional parameter λ > λ0 without restarting the whole
subdivision procedure. We illustrate the feasibility of the set-oriented path following method by
exploring the dynamics in low-dimensional models for shear flows during the transition to turbulence
and of large-scale atmospheric regime changes .

  abstract     = {{Ausgehend davon, dass sich die inhaltliche Beurteilung der Filme und Bücher der weltweit beliebten Trilogie "Fifty Shades of Grey" in medialen sowie wissenschaftlichen Publikationen als äußerst ambivalent zeigt, wird hier untersucht, inwieweit die dreiteilige Filmreihe "Fifty Shades of Grey" stereotype Darstellungen von Sexualität, Beziehung und Geschlecht reproduziert bzw. aufbricht. Aufgrund der hohen Verkaufs- und Besucher*innenzahlen drängt sich aus soziologischer Perspektive unmittelbar die Frage auf, was die Geschichte um "Fifty Shades of Grey" so beliebt macht und wie die Fankultur gekennzeichnet ist - besonders unter Bezugnahme auf kritische Stimmen. Denn unterstellt wird unter anderem eine negative Porträtierung der Sexualpraktik Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, Sadism and Masochism (BDSM), die Verherrlichung von häuslicher Gewalt und psychischem Missbrauch sowie die Reproduktion heteronormativer Geschlechterklischees. Die Soziologin Eva Illouz untersucht in ihrem Buch "Die neue Liebesordnung: Frauen, Männer und Shades of Grey" die Erfolgsgründe von Fifty Shades of Grey und wertet die BDSM-Beziehung als symbolische Lösung für moderne Beziehungen, die aufgrund zunehmender Emanzipation von unklaren und verunsichernden Rollenverhältnissen geprägt seien. Was bislang jedoch fehlt, ist eine medienwissenschaftliche Perspektive, welche die geschlechtliche Verhandlung und Stereotypisierung des Filmes fokussiert und nicht nur als Nebenprodukt verhandelt, da hierin die filmische Struktur und das Wesen sichtbar werden. Die Masterarbeit verfolgt somit das Ziel diese Forschungslücke zu füllen, indem die Vorwürfe gegen den Film hinsichtlich Stereotypisierung und Rollenklischees kritisch überprüft werden.}},
