Usually, modular multilevel converters are used in high-voltage DC-applications (HVDC) in the multiple kV-range, but to meet the needs of a high-current demand at low output voltage levels, the modular converter concept requires adaptations. In the proposed concept, the MMC is used to step-down the three-phase medium-voltage of 10kV, and provide up to 1 MW to the load. Therefore, each module is extended by an LLC resonant converter to adapt to the specific electrolyzers DC-voltage range of 142 - 220V and to provide galvanic isolation. The six-arm MMC converter with half-bridge modules can be simplified and optimized by removing three arms, and thus halving the number of modules. In addition, the module voltage ripple and capacitor losses are decreased by 22% and 30% respectively. By rearranging the components of the half-bridge MMC to build a MMC consisting of grid-side full-bridge modules, the voltage ripple is further reduced by 78% and capacitor losses by 64%, while ensuring identical costs and volume for all MMCs. Finally, the LLC resonant converter is designed for the most efficient full-bridge MMC. The LLC can not operate at resonance with a fixed nominal module voltage of 770V because the output voltage is varying between 142 - 220V. By decreasing the module voltage down to 600V, additional points of operation can be operated in resonance, and the remaining are closer to resonance. The option to decrease the module voltage down to 600V, increases the number of required modules per arm from 12 to 15, which requires to balance the losses of the LLCs and the grid-side stages.}}, author = {{Unruh, Roland and Schafmeister, Frank and Böcker, Joachim}}, booktitle = {{2020 22nd European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE'20 ECCE Europe)}}, keywords = {{Multilevel converters, Resonant converter, High voltage power converters, ZVS Converters, Combination MMC LLC}}, location = {{Lyon, France}}, publisher = {{IEEE}}, title = {{{Evaluation of MMCs for High-Power Low-Voltage DC-Applications in Combination with the Module LLC-Design}}}, doi = {{10.23919/epe20ecceeurope43536.2020.9215687}}, year = {{2020}}, } @inproceedings{29894, author = {{Rehlaender, Philipp and Tikhonov, Sergey and Schafmeister, Frank and Böcker, Joachim}}, booktitle = {{2020 22nd European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE'20 ECCE Europe)}}, publisher = {{IEEE}}, title = {{{Dual Interleaved 3.6 kW LLC Converter Operating in Half-Bridge, Full-Bridge and Phase-Shift Mode as a Single-Stage Architecture of an Automotive On-Board DC-DC Converter}}}, doi = {{10.23919/epe20ecceeurope43536.2020.9215736}}, year = {{2020}}, } @article{21558, author = {{Brosch, Anian and Hanke, Sören and Wallscheid, Oliver and Böcker, Joachim}}, issn = {{0885-8993}}, journal = {{IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics}}, pages = {{2179--2190}}, title = {{{Data-Driven Recursive Least Squares Estimation for Model Predictive Current Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors}}}, doi = {{10.1109/tpel.2020.3006779}}, year = {{2020}}, } @inproceedings{29956, author = {{Stille, Karl Stephan Christian and Weber, Daniel and Lange, Jarren and Vogt, Thorsten and Wallscheid, Oliver and Böcker, Joachim}}, booktitle = {{2020 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)}}, location = {{Sorrent, Italy}}, publisher = {{IEEE}}, title = {{{Emulation of Microgrids for Research and Validation of Control and Operation Strategies}}}, doi = {{10.1109/speedam48782.2020.9161971}}, year = {{2020}}, } @inproceedings{29896, abstract = {{Automotive DC-DC converters linking the traction battery to the auxiliary battery are characterized by the wide input and output voltage ranges resulting from the varying state-of-charge of the traction and auxiliary battery. Considering a less complex single-stage solution potentially enabling cost and weight advantages, traditional LLC converters are unsuitable topologies since it results in a too wide operating frequency range. This paper presents the design and evaluation of an economical two-stage converter concept consisting of a first-stage boost converter and a second-stage LLC converter. While for low input voltages, the boost converter can supply the second-stage LLC with the optimum bulk voltage, for high input voltages, the boost converter is turned off and the LLC regulates the output voltage on its own. Whereas this is unproblematic for high output currents, for low loads high switching frequencies become necessary. For this purpose, the LLC needs to be designed for a wide gain range. Traditionally, this is achieved through a small magnetizing inductance resulting in increased conduction losses. If an asymmetric duty cycle operation is used to cover the low gains at low output current, the LLC can be optimized for a better efficiency. The generally weak intrinsic (body) diodes of the MOSFETs cause turn-on losses when being forced to hard current commutations finally leading to the components self-destruction when operated constantly in this way. Consequently, zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation is more or less essential in a silicon (Si) MOSFET-based HB or FB. To ensure ZVS, the LLC is operated in the inductive region, i.e. with lagging resonant current. On the contrary, IGBTs show dominant turn-off losses and therefore are conventionally not applied in LLCs typically requiring high switching frequencies to achieve low output voltages. Yet, if the LLC is intentionally designed for the capacitive region, i. e. operation with leading current, zero-current switching (ZCS) enabling IGBTs in the inverter stage can be ensured. This paper explores in detail the LLC in the capacitive operating region and gives design considerations for a capacitive LLC utilizing both robust and cost-efficient IGBTs for an exemplary 2.2 kW automotive on-board DC-DC converter application. This results in a high demand for comprehensive testing of new control concepts during their development phase and comparisons with the state of the art in order to ensure their feasibility. This applies in particular to data-driven control approaches from the field of reinforcement learning (RL), whose stability and operating behavior can hardly be evaluated a priori. Therefore, the OpenModelica Microgrid Gym (OMG) package, an open-source software toolbox for the simulation and control optimization of MSGs, is proposed. Such protocols meet the demand for communication with minimal latency, but those currently deployed in practice achieve only rather weak security properties, as they may not achieve forward security for the first transmitted payload message and require additional countermeasures against replay attacks.Recently, 0-RTT protocols with full forward security and replay resilience have been proposed in the academic literature. These are based on puncturable encryption, which uses rather heavy building blocks, such as cryptographic pairings. Some constructions were claimed to have practical efficiency, but it is unclear how they compare concretely to protocols deployed in practice, and we currently do not have any benchmark results that new protocols can be compared with.We provide the first concrete performance analysis of a modern 0-RTT protocol with full forward security, by integrating the Bloom Filter Encryption scheme of Derler et al. (EUROCRYPT 2018) in the Chromium QUIC implementation and comparing it to Google’s original QUIC protocol. We find that for reasonable deployment parameters, the server CPU load increases approximately by a factor of eight and the memory consumption on the server increases significantly, but stays below 400 MB even for medium-scale deployments that handle up to 50K connections per day. The difference of the size of handshake messages is small enough that transmission time on the network is identical, and therefore not significant.We conclude that while current 0-RTT protocols with full forward security come with significant computational overhead, their use in practice is feasible, and may be used in applications where the increased CPU and memory load can be tolerated in exchange for full forward security and replay resilience on the cryptographic protocol level. Our results serve as a first benchmark that can be used to assess the efficiency of 0-RTT protocols potentially developed in the future. }}, author = {{Dallmeier, Fynn and Drees, Jan P. and Gellert, Kai and Handirk, Tobias and Jager, Tibor and Klauke, Jonas and Nachtigall, Simon and Renzelmann, Timo and Wolf, Rudi}}, booktitle = {{Cryptology and Network Security}}, isbn = {{9783030654108}}, issn = {{0302-9743}}, location = {{Vienna}}, pages = {{211--231}}, publisher = {{Springer-Verlag}}, title = {{{Forward-Secure 0-RTT Goes Live: Implementation and Performance Analysis in QUIC}}}, doi = {{10.1007/978-3-030-65411-5_11}}, year = {{2020}}, } @inproceedings{30339, author = {{Ahmmad, Mohsin Ejaz and Schafmeister, Frank and Böcker, Joachim}}, booktitle = {{Proc. It then observes a corresponding (random) reward, provided the (random) amount of consumed resources remains below the limit. Otherwise, the observation is censored, i.e., no reward is obtained. For this problem setting, we introduce a measure of regret, which incorporates the actual amount of allocated resources of each learning round as well as the optimality of realizable rewards. Thus, to minimize regret, the learner needs to set a resource limit and choose an arm in such a way that the chance to realize a high reward within the predefined resource limit is high, while the resource limit itself should be kept as low as possible. We derive the theoretical lower bound on the cumulative regret and propose a learning algorithm having a regret upper bound that matches the lower bound. The intrinsic CuInSe2 surface is found to be largely passivated in terms of electronic defect levels in the band-gap region. However, surface oxidation leads to an overall high density of defect levels in conjunction with a considerable net surface dipole, which persists even after oxide removal. Yet, a subsequent annealing under vacuum restores the initial condition. Such oxidation/reduction cycles are reversible for many times providing robust control of the surface and interface properties in these materials. Based on ab initio simulations, a mechanism where oxygen dissociatively adsorbs and subsequently diffuses to a subsurface site is proposed as the initial step of the observed dipole formation. We report here the vibrational properties of cubic FAPbI3 investigated by DFT calculations on phonon frequencies and intensities, and micro-Raman spectroscopy. The effects of Cs+ and Br− partial substitution are discussed. We support our results with the study of FAPbBr3 which expands the identification of vibrational modes to the previously unpublished low frequency region (<500 cm−1). Our results show that the incorporation of Cs+ and Br− leads to the coupling of the displacement of the A-site components and weakens the bonds between FA+ and the PbX6 octahedra. However, this issue is unsolved for adolescents when performing the same balance task with increasing difficulty. Therefore, we examined the effects of a progressively increasing balance task difficulty on balance performance and brain activity in adolescents. Thirteen healthy adolescents aged 16–17 year performed tests in bipedal upright stance on a balance board with six progressively increasing levels of task difficulty. Postural sway and cortical activity were recorded simultaneously using a pressure sensitive measuring system and EEG. The power spectrum was analyzed for theta (4–7 Hz) and alpha-2 (10–12 Hz) frequency bands in pre-defined frontal, central, and parietal clusters of electrocortical sources. Repeated measures analysis of variance (rmANOVA) showed a significant main effect of task difficulty for postural sway (p < 0.001; d = 6.36). Concomitantly, the power spectrum changed in frontal, bilateral central, and bilateral parietal clusters. RmANOVAs revealed significant main effects of task difficulty for theta band power in the frontal (p < 0.001, d = 1.80) and both central clusters (left: p < 0.001, d = 1.49; right: p < 0.001, d = 1.42) as well as for alpha-2 band power in both parietal clusters (left: p < 0.001, d = 1.39; right: p < 0.001, d = 1.05) and in the central right cluster (p = 0.005, d = 0.92). Increases in theta band power (frontal, central) and decreases in alpha-2 power (central, parietal) with increasing balance task difficulty may reflect increased attentional processes and/or error monitoring as well as increased sensory information processing due to increasing postural demands. Three recent classes of attacks exploit weak cipher modes (EFAIL Malleability Gadgets, or EFAIL-MG), the flexibility of the MIME email structure (EFAIL Direct Exfiltration, or EFAIL-DE), and the Reply action of the email client (REPLY attacks). Although all three break message confidentiality by using standardized email features, only EFAIL-MG has been mitigated in IETF standards with the introduction of AEAD algorithms. So far, no uniform and reliable countermeasures have been adopted by email clients to prevent EFAIL-DE and REPLY attacks. Instead, email clients implement a variety of different ad-hoc countermeasures which are only partially effective, cause interoperability problems, and fragment the secure email ecosystem.We present the first generic countermeasure against both REPLY and EFAIL-DE attacks by checking the decryption context including SMTP headers and MIME structure during decryption. The decryption context is encoded into a string DC and used as Associated Data (AD) in the AEAD encryption. Thus the proposed solution seamlessly extends the EFAIL-MG countermeasures. The decryption context changes whenever an attacker alters the email source code in a critical way, for example, if the attacker changes the MIME structure or adds a new Reply-To header. The proposed solution does not cause any interoperability problems and legacy emails can still be decrypted. We evaluate our approach by implementing the decryption contexts in Thunderbird/Enigmail and by verifying their correct functionality after the email has been transported over all major email providers, including Gmail and iCloud Mail.}}, author = {{Schwenk, Jörg and Brinkmann, Marcus and Poddebniak, Damian and Müller, Jens and Somorovsky, Juraj and Schinzel, Sebastian}}, booktitle = {{Proceedings of the 2020 ACM SIGSAC Conference on Computer and Communications Security}}, isbn = {{9781450370899}}, keywords = {{decryption contexts, EFAIL, OpenPGP, S/MIME, AEAD}}, pages = {{1647–1664}}, publisher = {{Association for Computing Machinery}}, title = {{{Mitigation of Attacks on Email End-to-End Encryption}}}, doi = {{10.1145/3372297.3417878}}, year = {{2020}}, } @article{25143, author = {{Haddenhorst, Björn and Hüllermeier, Eyke and Kolb, Martin}}, issn = {{0888-613X}}, journal = {{International Journal of Approximate Reasoning}}, pages = {{373--407}}, title = {{{Generalized transitivity: A systematic comparison of concepts with an application to preferences in the Babington Smith model}}}, doi = {{10.1016/j.ijar.2020.01.007}}, year = {{2020}}, } @techreport{24676, author = {{Eberhartinger, Eva and Speitmann, Raffael and Sureth-Sloane, Caren}}, issn = {{1556-5068}}, title = {{{Real Effects of Public Country-by-Country Reporting and the Firm Structure of European Banks}}}, doi = {{10.2139/ssrn.3523909}}, year = {{2020}}, } @inbook{33083, author = {{Ulrich, Tanja}}, booktitle = {{Nur ein Wort? Their main task is to prevent oil from exiting the system and dirt particles from entering the system. When this function is not fulfilled, a leakage can occur and cause excessive damage after certain operating times, such as gear failure due to insufficient lubrication. This is the reason for the high level of current research interest in seals. The sealing function of RSSR occurs in the contact area between the sealing lip and the shaft. The contact takes place over a very small contact width of approximately 1 μm. These extremely small dimensions and the complex relationships between the functional influencing variables on the radial shaft sealing system make it difficult to simulate wear on the sealing ring. The energetic consideration of the wear process offers the possibility of quantifying influencing variables more easily by their energetic contribution, which can be determined experimentally. Based on experimentally measured total friction moments, and with the help of a semi-analytical (SA) solid contact model based on the half-space theory, this paper presents a modelling approach for the calculation of wear at the sealing ring. The model presented in this work differs from the existing models in two ways. The first particularity is the coupling of SA method with finite element method (FEM) for the resolution of the contact between the sealing lip and the shaft, allowing a fine discretization of the contact zone (by SA method) and the consideration of the structural behavior (by FE method). The SA method compared to the commonly used FEM presents a great saving in computation time. The second particularity is the use of the real data obtained during the wear tests. Most existing simulation models are based purely on contact pressure. This means that through the contact pressure obtained by simulation and a given sliding distance value, a friction energy will be estimated which will be used in a next step using a wear model such as Archad’s to calculate the wear rate. In this publication the value of friction energy was obtained directly on an experimental basis and a more appropriate wear law, such as Fleischer’s, taking into account the friction conditions, was used to estimate the wear rate.}}, author = {{Foko Foko, Flavien and Heimes, Julia and Magyar, Balázs and Sauer, Bernd}}, issn = {{2075-4442}}, journal = {{Lubricants}}, number = {{2}}, title = {{{Friction Energy-Based Wear Simulation for Radial Shaft Sealing Ring}}}, doi = {{10.3390/lubricants8020015}}, volume = {{8}}, year = {{2020}}, } @article{34436, abstract = {{Regarding the increasing demand in seal lifetime and energy efficiency, a detailed microscopic simulation is necessary—as an addition to experimental investigations—to better understand and improve radial shaft seals. For this purpose, typically thermoelastohydrodynamic lubrication (TEHL) simulations are used. The published models range from rather simple elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) models to very sophisticated TEHL models. Only very few models take into account the roughness or microstructure of both contact surfaces, though, since this would require the consideration of transient effects. In this article, a transient TEHL model for the contact of radial shaft seals is presented. A steeper elevation angle would result in a more balanced seasonal PV yield, at the cost of PV yield reductions during summer, but allowing reduced storage capacities. Additionally, the effect of a single-axis tracking system has been investigated, generating more electricity during the morning and evening hours, thus reducing daily storage requirements. The necessary PV size and storage capacities required for the German energy supply (1,500 TWh after electrification of all sectors) via 100% renewable energies and a 50% solar share have been calculated via the HOMER Pro software, considering the bridging of periods of "dark lulls“ in winter, using costs of 2030 (Table 1). Results: The increase of module elevation angles above the typical 30° leads to a reduction of investment and supply costs. The optimum is reached at a cost reduction of -1.5% for an elevation angle at the latitude of the installation site. An explanation is that high elevation angles are favorable for clear winter days, but not at all for the critical days with diffuse irradiance only, so the battery capacity must be increased. The other category of issues is thermal: As a first explanation for observed reduced energy yields, it has been assumed that the conversion efficiency degrades at higher operating temperatures. This matter has been investigated in this article: A change in conversion efficiency could not be observed for elevated operation temperatures up to 50°C, despite high-precision and repeated measurements. But it was found that some inverters temporarily interrupted (or entirely stopped) operation after long periods of running at high temperatures. An dieser Stelle stellt sich die Frage, welche Aspekte dieses großen Themenkomplexes für Schule und Ausbildung von Wichtigkeit sind und wie diese Themen sinnstiftend und gewinnbringend in die informatische Ausbildung in verschiedenen Bildungsgängen integriert werden können. Im Rahmen des von uns im Jahr 2017 organisierten Symposiums zum Thema „Data Science“ wurden für die Bildung relevante Aspekte erörtert, wodurch als Kernelemente für den Unterricht Algorithmen der Künstlichen Intelligenz und ihre Anwendung in Industrie und Gesellschaft, Explorationen von Big Data sowie der Umgang mit eigenen Daten in sozialen Netzwerken herausgearbeitet wurden. Ziel ist, aus diesen Themenbereichen sowohl ein umfassendes Curriculum als auch Module für verschiedene Unterrichtsszenarien zu entwickeln und zu erproben. Durch diese Materialien soll es Lehrkräften aus der Informatik, Mathematik oder Technik ermöglicht werden, diese Themen auf Basis des Curriculums und der erprobten Unterrichtskonzepte selbst zu unterrichten. Hierfür wurde im Rahmen des Projekts ProDaBi (Projekt Data Science und Big Data in der Schule, https://www.prodabi.de), initiiert von der Telekom Stiftung, ein experimenteller Projektkurs entwickelt, den wir mit Schüler:innen der Sekundarstufe II an der Universität Paderborn im Schuljahr 2018/19 durchführten. Dieser Kurs enthält neben einem Modul zur Exploration von Big Data und einem weiteren Modul zum Maschinellen Lernen als Teil der Künstlichen Intelligenz auch eine Projektphase, die es in Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Unternehmen den Schüler:innen ermöglicht, das Erlernte in ein reales Data Science-Projekt einzubringen. Aus den Erfahrungen dieses Projektkurses sowie den parallel durchgeführten Erprobungen einzelner Bausteine auch mit beruflichen Schulen werden ab dem Schuljahr 2019/20 die hierfür verwendeten Materialien weiterentwickelt und weiteren Kooperationspartnern zur Erprobung zur Verfügung gestellt. Damit wurden zum Ende des Projekts nicht nur vollständige Unterrichtsmaterialien, sondern auch ein umfassendes Curriculum entwickelt.}}, author = {{Opel, Simone Anna and Schlichtig, Michael}}, booktitle = {{Sammelband der 27. In this paper we dissect the gains of the time-domain audio separation network (TasNet) approach by gradually replacing components of an utterance-level permutation invariant training (u-PIT) based separation system in the frequency domain until the TasNet system is reached, thus blending components of frequency domain approaches with those of time domain approaches. Some of the intermediate variants achieve comparable signal-to-distortion ratio (SDR) gains to TasNet, but retain the advantage of frequency domain processing: compatibility with classic signal processing tools such as frequency-domain beamforming and the human interpretability of the masks. Furthermore, we show that the scale invariant signal-to-distortion ratio (si-SDR) criterion used as loss function in TasNet is related to a logarithmic mean square error criterion and that it is this criterion which contributes most reliable to the performance advantage of TasNet. Finally, we critically assess which gains in a noise-free single channel environment generalize to more realistic reverberant conditions.}}, author = {{Heitkaemper, Jens and Jakobeit, Darius and Boeddeker, Christoph and Drude, Lukas and Haeb-Umbach, Reinhold}}, booktitle = {{ICASSP 2020 Virtual Barcelona Spain}}, keywords = {{voice activity detection, speech activity detection, neural network, statistical speech processing}}, title = {{{Demystifying TasNet: A Dissecting Approach}}}, year = {{2020}}, } @unpublished{28263, abstract = {{Following the success of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th CHiME challenges we organize the 6th CHiME Speech Separation and Recognition Challenge (CHiME-6). Er greift drei geografisch und chronologisch weit auseinanderliegende Fallbeispiele von kulturellen Vermittlern auf, die vor dem Hintergrund ihres umfassenden antiken Bildungswissens versuchten, die Fremde als „lebende Antike“ zu interpretieren: Missionare in Neuspanien im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert, einen Griechenlandreisenden der 1830er und einen Japanreisenden der 1930er Jahre. Der analysierte Vermittlungsprozess wird als „doppelte Allelopoiese“ beschrieben: die brokers stilisierten einerseits die Antike als zwar weit zurückliegenden, aber essentiellen Teil ihrer eigenen kulturellen Identität; sie parallelisierten andererseits die fremde Lebenswelt, mit der sie konfrontiert wurden, mit eben dieser Antike; in einem (nur analytisch zu isolierenden) dritten Schritt konnten sie so Parallelen zwischen der Fremde und dem Eigenen hervorheben und wechselseitige kulturelle Aneignungen (Transformationen) einleiten und rechtfertigen. This is also the case for control problems, where optimal solutions can degrade in quality or even become infeasible. Thus, there is the need to design methods that can handle uncertainty. In this work, we consider nonlinear multi-objective optimal control problems with uncertainty on the initial conditions, and in particular their incorporation into a feedback loop via model predictive control (MPC). In multi-objective optimal control, an optimal compromise between multiple conflicting criteria has to be found. For such problems, not much has been reported in terms of uncertainties. To address this problem class, we design an offline/online framework to compute an approximation of efficient control strategies. This approach is closely related to explicit MPC for nonlinear systems, where the potentially expensive optimization problem is solved in an offline phase in order to enable fast solutions in the online phase. In order to reduce the numerical cost of the offline phase, we exploit symmetries in the control problems. Furthermore, in order to ensure optimality of the solutions, we include an additional online optimization step, which is considerably cheaper than the original multi-objective optimization problem. We test our framework on a car maneuvering problem where safety and speed are the objectives. The multi-objective framework allows for online adaptations of the desired objective. Alternatively, an automatic scalarizing procedure yields very efficient feedback controls. Our results show that the method is capable of designing driving strategies that deal better with uncertainties in the initial conditions, which translates into potentially safer and faster driving strategies.}}, author = {{Hernández Castellanos, Carlos Ignacio and Ober-Blöbaum, Sina and Peitz, Sebastian}}, journal = {{International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control}}, pages = {{7593--7618}}, title = {{{Explicit Multi-objective Model Predictive Control for Nonlinear Systems Under Uncertainty}}}, doi = {{10.1002/rnc.5197}}, volume = {{30(17)}}, year = {{2020}}, }
