AB - Abstract
In this report, we summarize our experimental and theoretical investigations in the zinc(II) imidazolate, [Zn(im)2], and zinc(II) 4,5-dichloroimidazolate, [Zn(dcim)2], systems that have been published previously. This comprises a study on the thermodynamic stabilities of the two densest phases with coi and zni framework structures in the [Zn(im)2] system including the discovery and characterization of a new [Zn(im)2·0.5py]-neb phase (py = pyridine), a study on the mechanism of formation of the [Zn(im)2]-zni phase as well as a study on the discovery and characterization of a new [Zn(dcim)2]-SOD phase. In addition, we present as yet unpublished work. This concerns the discovery and characterization of a new [Zn(im)2·0.5mor]-neb phase (mor = morpholine) and investigations of the mechanisms of crystallization of [Zn(im)2·0.5py]-neb and [Zn(im)2·0.5mor]-neb as well as an evalutation of time-resolved SAXS/WAXS data recorded in-situ during the formation of [Zn(im)2]-zni.

AB - In dieser Arbeit wird gezeigt, wie optimale Trajektorien für ein unteraktuiertes mechanisches System - das Doppel- bzw. Dreifachpendel auf einem Wagen - mittels optimaler Steuerung bestimmt werden können. Dabei werden neuartige mathematische Methoden verwendet und deren Vorteile in der Anwendung aufgezeigt. Es werden sowohl die theoretischen Ergebnisse analysiert als auch die praktische Umsetzung in Simulationen und am Prüfstand untersucht. Das Manöver, welches hier hauptsächlich betrachtet wird, ist der Aufschwung des Pendels aus der stabilen unteren Ruhelage in die instabile obere Ruhelage. Dabei werden mit Hilfe von Methoden der Mehrzieloptimierung viele Varianten von Lösungen berechnet, die die zwei gegenläufigen Zielgrößen Dauer des Manövers und Steueraufwand unterschiedlich stark berücksichtigen. So ist es möglich eine komplexe Bibliothek von optimalen Lösungen zu erhalten und diese weitergehend bezüglich des Gesamtsystemverhaltens zu analysieren. Ein weiterer Ansatz ist die Entwicklung von Strategien für eine optimale Steuerung auf Mannigfaltigkeiten, die besondere dynamische Strukturen des Pendelsystems für einen optimalen Aufschwung nutzen. Auf der stabilen Mannigfaltigkeit kann sich das dynamische System kostenlos in die Ruhelage bewegen. Dies ist somit ein besonderer physikalisch motivierter Ansatz, um optimale Manöver zu finden.

AB - The polynomial hierarchy plays a central role in classical complexity theory. Here, we define
a quantum generalization of the polynomial hierarchy, and initiate its study. We show that
not only are there natural complete problems for the second level of this quantum hierarchy, but that these problems are in fact hard to approximate. Using the same techniques, we
also obtain hardness of approximation for the class QCMA. Our approach is based on the
use of dispersers, and is inspired by the classical results of Umans regarding hardness of approximation for the second level of the classical polynomial hierarchy [Umans, FOCS 1999].
The problems for which we prove hardness of approximation for include, among others, a
quantum version of the Succinct Set Cover problem, and a variant of the local Hamiltonian
problem with hybrid classical-quantum ground states.

AB - We show how to efficiently simulate continuous-time quantum query algorithms that run in time T in a manner that preserves the query complexity (within a polylogarithmic factor) while also incurring a small overhead cost in the total number of gates between queries. By small overhead, we mean T within a factor that is polylogarithmic in terms of T and a cost measure that reflects the cost of computing the driving Hamiltonian. This permits any continuous-time quantum algorithm based on an efficiently computable driving Hamiltonian to be converted into a gate-efficient algorithm with similar running time.

Purpose
– Ubiquitous computing and “big data” have been widely recognized as requiring new concepts of privacy and new mechanisms to protect it. While improved concepts of privacy have been suggested, the paper aims to argue that people acting in full conformity to those privacy norms still can infringe the privacy of others in the context of ubiquitous computing and “big data”.
Design/methodology/approach
– New threats to privacy are described. Helen Nissenbaum's concept of “privacy as contextual integrity” is reviewed concerning its capability to grasp these problems. The argument is based on the assumption that the technologies work, persons are fully informed and capable of deciding according to advanced privacy considerations.
Findings
– Big data and ubiquitous computing enable privacy threats for persons whose data are only indirectly involved and even for persons about whom no data have been collected and processed. Those new problems are intrinsic to the functionality of these new technologies and need to be addressed on a social and political level. Furthermore, a concept of data minimization in terms of the quality of the data is proposed.
Originality/value
– The use of personal data as a threat to the privacy of others is established. This new perspective is used to reassess and recontextualize Helen Nissenbaum's concept of privacy. Data minimization in terms of quality of data is proposed as a new concept.

AB - Ultrafast charge transport in strongly biased semiconductors is at the heart of high-speed electronics, electro-optics and fundamental solid-state physics1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13. Intense light pulses in the terahertz spectral range have opened fascinating vistas14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21. Because terahertz photon energies are far below typical electronic interband resonances, a stable electromagnetic waveform may serve as a precisely adjustable bias5,11,17,19. Novel quantum phenomena have been anticipated for terahertz amplitudes, reaching atomic field strengths8,9,10. We exploit controlled (multi-)terahertz waveforms with peak fields of 72 MV cm−1 to drive coherent interband polarization combined with dynamical Bloch oscillations in semiconducting gallium selenide. These dynamics entail the emission of phase-stable high-harmonic transients, covering the entire terahertz-to-visible spectral domain between 0.1 and 675 THz. Quantum interference of different ionization paths of accelerated charge carriers is controlled via the waveform of the driving field and explained by a quantum theory of inter- and intraband dynamics. Our results pave the way towards all-coherent terahertz-rate electronics.

AB - The nonadiabatic dynamics of a many-body system driven through a quantum critical point can be controlled using counterdiabatic driving, where the formation of excitations is suppressed by assisting the dynamics with auxiliary multiple-body nonlocal interactions. We propose an alternative scheme which circumvents practical challenges to realize shortcuts to adiabaticity in mesoscopic systems by tailoring the functional form of the auxiliary counterdiabatic interactions. A driving scheme resorting in short-range few-body interactions is shown to generate an effectively adiabatic dynamics.

We enumerate all orthogonal spaces (V,Q) of dimension at least 3, where the corresponding genus of maximal integral lattices consists of a single isometry class. It turns out, there are 471 such genera. Moreover, the dimension of V and the degree of K are bounded by 6 and 5 respectively. This classification also yields all maximal quaternion orders of type number one.

AB - In transportation sector the reduction of moving masses without the decrease of safety parameters is a key factor for future economic success. One possible approach for this is the use of different metallic materials in composite construction. Therefore, it is essential to establish a reliable component connection by means of suitable and cost-effective joining technologies. Mechanical joining technologies such as self-piercing riveting and mechanical clinching have proven to be effective methods for joining lightweight materials like aluminium and ductile steels. As these technologies require formability or pre-holing of the joining partners, the field of application is limited by the mechanical properties of the joining partners. Great potential for joining hot stamped steels, which have a very low elongation at fracture and therefore a low formability, offers the shear-clinching technology. For a systematic development of the shear-clinching technology, detailed investigations of the process are required. This paper presents an analysis of the material behaviour during the shear-clinching process and the reference process – clinching with pre-hole.

AB - We show, by means of numerical and analytical methods, that media with a repulsive nonlinearity which grows from the center to the periphery support a remarkable variety of previously unknown complex stationary and dynamical three-dimensional (3D) solitary-wave states. Peanut-shaped modulation profiles give rise to vertically symmetric and antisymmetric vortex states, and novel stationary hybrid states, built of top and bottom vortices with opposite topological charges, as well as robust dynamical hybrids, which feature stable precession of a vortex on top of a zero-vorticity soliton. The analysis reveals stability regions for symmetric, antisymmetric, and hybrid states. In addition, bead-shaped modulation profiles give rise to the first example of exact analytical solutions for stable 3D vortex solitons. The predicted states may be realized in media with a controllable cubic nonlinearity, such as Bose–Einstein condensates.

AB - We find that the recently introduced model of self-trapping supported by a spatially growing strength of a repulsive nonlinearity gives rise to robust vortex-soliton tori, i.e., three-dimensional vortex solitons, with topological charges
S≥1. The family with S=1 is completely stable, while the one with S=2 has alternating regions of stability and instability. The families are nearly exactly reproduced in an analytical form by the Thomas-Fermi approximation. Unstable states with S=2 and 3 split into persistently rotating pairs or triangles of unitary vortices. Application of a moderate torque to the vortex torus initiates a persistent precession mode, with the torus’ axle moving along a conical surface. A strong torque heavily deforms the vortex solitons, but, nonetheless, they restore themselves with the axle oriented according to the vectorial addition of angular momenta.
