Erst mit der Einführung elektrischer Aufnahme- und Abspielsysteme sei dieser Bereich signifikant erhöht worden. Demzufolge konnten die Aufnahmegeräte in dieser Epoche Frequenzen unterhalb des Tons e und oberhalb des Tons c“‘ nicht abbilden bzw. diese seien (wegen des Verlusts der Obertöne) nur verzerrt darstellbar gewesen. Eine hohe Sopran- bzw. eine tiefe Bassstimme habe daher dumpf und unschön geklungen. Dem steht entgegen, dass Sänger wie Fjodor Schaljapin und Sängerinnen wie Luisa Tetrazzini mit großem finanziellem und beruflichem Erfolg Tonaufnahmen veröffentlichten. Und auch für die Plattenfirmen war das Grammophon geradezu eine ,Gelddruckmaschine‵. - Unser Vortrag wird sich darum bemühen, diese Widersprüche zu klären. Wir gehen dabei davon aus, dass die Vokalformanten von SängerInnen durch die Schallübertragung im Schalltrichter modifiziert wurden. Daher werden wir untersuchen, ob dies nur im Aufnahme- oder nur im Abspielprozess der Fall war, oder in beiden Prozessen. Die Schallübertragung eines frühen Grammophons wird gemessen und die Vokalformanten werden analysiert, insbesondere soll die Korrelation mit den Spezifika der Gesangsstimme untersucht werden.
