TY - BOOK AB - n the multi-volume work on "Theory of Production", the production models and processes born today from practice are to be derived for the first time on a mathematically justified basis and thus also given the production economy a scientific basis. A constructivist point of view is to be set aside for “we just organized our company that way and it has proven itself”, and so the many descriptive “factory management teachings” are to be replaced. Volume 1 contains the basics of logic, set theory and algebra. The production-relevant conceptions of systems theory are for the first time completely mapped to constructs of formal logic, propositional and predicate logic consistently presented using examples. The predicate logic strikes the bow to the NC program; all parameters of a machining production are derived explicitly. An application example of the set-theoretical concepts is the computer-aided design, the relational calculus is mapped, for example, to product structures, replacement parts and identical parts. The basics of algebra deal in detail with the algebraic systems with internal connections that are important for engineering. Rotating tool magazines are mentioned here as an example. Algebraic systems with external links deal in particular with the handling of matrices. The basics of classifying, ordering and measuring conclude this volume. A constructivist point of view is to be set aside for “we just organized our company that way and it has proven itself”, and so the many descriptive “factory management teachings” are to be replaced. Volume 2 deals with the structures of production. Based on the newly interpreted construct of the “production point”, larger units are composed step by step: single-stage and multi-stage technical quantities. In addition, the production point integrates the subdivision used today in business administration into the object-oriented, activity favoring black box thinking and the functionalist view of consumption and production functions. The conceptual foundations are mainly algebraic input-output systems. Based on the structuring and parameterization options at the production point, alternative organizational concepts for single and multi-level productions are developed. For the engineering sciences, a detailed treatise on the evaluation of production success is particularly important in this volume, which systematically leads to product calculation and the planning of an economically successful production program. Volume 3 deals with production processes in time. Ordinal and cardinal amounts of time lead to the system-theoretical definition of a process at the point of production and the possible understandings of processes and states. A main point here is the derivation of the common thinking in series production in terms of performance figures. Starting from the basic form of a time-based production, efficient dynamic events and processes are prepared. This creates the basis for the representation of the state of a general time system and the use of sequential machines. Time-invariant time systems and stochastic productions are the basis of robust production. The study draws on the case of one Canadian student of German who studied abroad at a German university for one year. To adopt an emic perspective, the data gained from a learning history questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, and e-journals were analyzed and interpreted within the framework of narrative analysis. The results show not only that learners’ sojourn objectives may be complex, dynamic, and contradictory in nature but also that they need to be examined beyond their face value, as they are entangled with learners’ negotiations of desirable subject positions and attempts to integrate their sojourn experiences, successes, and frustrations in a coherent and positive life narrative. We argue that the role of pronunciation as a personal domain of meaning-making warrants more attention than it has hitherto received. To this end, we investigate the narratives of Canadian learners, studying abroad in Germany, in relation to discourses of language learning, culture, and identity, using a Critical Discourse Analysis approach. Our data, which we gained from semi-structured interviews and e-journals, shows that learners’ perceptions of pronunciation are closely linked to their views of the native-speaker ideal, impacting their self-constructions and interpretations of learning experience. In conclusion, we argue for a more differentiated understanding of pronunciation and its implications for language teaching and study abroad. As collaborative consumption, TRS saves customers money, enables taxi companies to economize use of their resources, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions. We develop a one-to-one TRS approach that matches rides with similar start and end points. We evaluate our approach by analyzing an open dataset of > 5 million taxi trajectories in New York City. Our empirical analysis reveals that the proposed approach matches up to 48.34% of all taxi rides, saving 2,892,036 km of travel distance, 231,362.89 l of gas, and 532,134.64 kg of CO2 emissions per week. Compared to many-to-many TRS approaches, our approach is competitive, simpler to implement and operate, and poses less rigid assumptions on data availability and customer acceptance. In an age of smart products and smart data, we can, however, expect that many of future service innovations need to be based on adding, transferring, dissociating, and associating existing value propositions. The purpose of this paper is to outline what properties constitute recombinant service innovation and to identify if current service engineering approaches fulfill these properties. Based on a conceptual in-depth analysis of 24 service engineering methods, we identify that most methods focus on designing value propositions instead of service systems, view service independent of physical goods, are linear or iterative, and incompletely address the mechanisms of recombinant innovation. We discuss how these deficiencies can be remedied and propose a first conceptual model of a revised se rvice system engineering approach. In this context, a study in 2013 by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement, IEA, provided insights into teachers’ beliefs regarding ICT and showed that perceptions of the pedagogical advantages of technologies differ between countries. With regard to this finding, this paper seeks to determine whether there is a typology of teachers with different attitudes towards the potential of ICTs for learning. This question is addressed by conducting latent class analyses on a sample of teacher data from three European countries – the Czech Republic, Germany and Norway. Furthermore, the paper investigates how the use of computers by teachers varies between the groups to which these teachers can be assigned. In doing so the research reported at hand connects, arguably for the first time, representative data on teacher typologies of attitudes towards and beliefs about ICT in teaching and learning with data on computer use in schools. Among the 21 education systems that participated in ICILS 2013, there are 12 European countries, making secondary comparative in-depth analyses at a European level particularly fruitful. Accordingly, while the four articles in this Special Issue each deal with different topics and adopt different methodologies, they all share a common element and provide European comparisons in the ICILS context. The editorial in turn outlines the aim of the ICILS 2013 study and its relevance for European education research as well as its contextual framework and approach to the measurement of students’ CIL. WSN nodes are often powered by batteries or can use energy harvesting methods from environmental energy sources. One of the major challenges in the design of WSN nodes is the high level of power dissipation for sensing, processing and communication. Operating at low-power levels reduces maintenance effort for periodic battery replacement or can even provide unlimited operation by means of energy harvesting. Since the communication process is the most power hungry process, ultra-low-power wireless communication is an enabler for network applications such as cyber-physical systems, Internet-of-Things and Industry 4.0 etc. Our research is based on Wake-up Receivers (WuR) architectures. Each of the WSN nodes contains a WuR which is always-on, listening for a wake-up signal from other nodes or the base station, and activating the node only when a wake-up signal is detected. By this scheme the communication with the base station becomes asynchronous, real-time and on-demand. Due to the centrally-coordinated, collision-free communication such WSNs can be scaled to very large node numbers. Designing always-on WuR at ultra-low-power dissipation levels makes the WSN nodes very energy efficient because they are only activated when a wake-up-signal is received. Additionally, the WuR must be robust to noise and co-channel interference in order to operate safely in parallel to other wireless systems. We investigate a novel radio architecture for the WuR using Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) and passive analog signal processing by means of a Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) correlator. The base station sends the required WSN node ID using LFM signal at 2.4 GHz. The node ID is encoded as chirp up or chirp down signal with chirping bandwidth of 80MHz. On the receiver side, the SAW chirp correlator demodulates the received LFM signal while suppressing other wireless signals. In order to achieve proper demodulation and high Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), the SAW correlator is designed to behave like a Matched Filter (MF) which boosts up the SNR. After that the signal is amplified/detected by baseband amplifier stage, it is compared with the unique ID of the node, and the node's Wake up signal is asserted accordingly. Since the SAW correlator operates completely passive, the WuR can be implemented in a very energy-efficient way, without the need to use power hungry device such as Low Noise Amplifiers (LNA) or down conversion Local Oscillators (LO) AU - Abughannam, Saed AU - Scheytt, Christoph ID - 24215 T2 - Kleinheubacher Tagung 2017 TI - Low-Power wake up receiver based on Surface Acoustic Wave Correlator ER - TY - JOUR AB - In this article mixed analog/digital signal processing techniques based on parallel spread-spectrum sequencing (PSSS) and radio frequency (RF) carrier synchronization for ultra-broadband wireless communication are investigated on system and circuit level. Mixed signal baseband realization allows for easier implementation of the channel equalization function and eliminates the need for high speed data converters. System design and architecture of a mixed signal baseband processor for 100 Gbps wireless communication is described that reduces the implementation complexity and results in a consequent reduction in power dissipation and chip area. An ultra-broadband analog correlator consisting of a four-quadrant multiplier and a fast resettable integrator using only NPN transistors was designed, fabricated, and measured. First a theoretical link budget analysis for a reader to tag architecture is shown for a wireless industrial application at 1m distance. This includes a power budget of the passively powered transponder. The received power level of the backscattered data for the theoretical link budget is -52:5 dBm. For the first setup slot antennas are developed and measured in the anechoic chamber. The measured gain is 4.0 dB. The power of the backscatter data in setup 1 is -74:8 dBm. This corresponds to the theoretical link budget since, all losses such as cable or lower antenna gain are taken into account. Setup 2 is upgraded on the reader side with horn antennas. At 5.8 GHz, the gain reaches the value of 10.8 dB. The second setup shows improvement in the receiving backscattered power to a value of -62:4 dBm. Furthermore, as a solution to detect those transponders not presented in the main slope of the antenna, a steerable beam is introduced by means of a Rotman lens. On the topic of the passive transponder, different harvesting topologies at 5.8 GHz are investigated, and the efficiency simulation of the harvesting circuitry has been performed. The simulated efficiency of the implemented technique is 68 %. To illustrate this idea, we present an exemplified algorithm that plans and assigns a motion path to each robot. The considered problem is particularly challenging because: (i) the robots share the same environment and thus the planner must take into account overlapping paths which cannot happen at the same time; (ii) there are time deadlines thus the planner must deal with temporal constraints; (iii) new requests arrive without a priori knowledge thus the planner must be able to add new paths online and adjust old plans; (iv) the robot motion is subject to noise thus the planner must be reactive to adapt to online changes. We showcase the functioning of the proposed algorithm through a set of agent-based simulations. Conventionally mainly Nylon 12 (PA 12), Polyamide 11 (PA 11), glass- or aluminum filled materials enable rapid prototyping during the product development process. Those materials do not always meet the requirements for direct production of functional parts by laser sintering. For Direct Manufacturing of functional parts out of required materials and in high quality, the laser sintering process and the material palette needs to be further developed. During this research a laser sintering test equipment for material qualification has been built up. The forthcomings are an optimized software solution, an innovative optical system, an alternative powder coating system and an improved temperature control. Combining all-atom molecular dynamics and capillary simulations we demonstrate that the linear scaling of the interparticle forces with the particle diameter, well established for microscopic and macroscopic particles, can be extended down to diameters of a few nm. At this size scale, however, the molecular nature of the water adsorbates dictates the adhesion forces both via solvation effects and influencing parameters of analytical capillary models such as the equilibrium particle–particle separation distance and the water/particle contact angle. Moreover, the water surface tension becomes considerably larger than the macroscopic bulk value due to combined effects of thin-film confinement and tight curvature, in a way that strongly depends on humidity and particle size. Taking these effects into proper account, classical capillary equations can be used to predict the interparticle forces even of the smallest particles considered here (4 nm), although the circular approximation fails to reproduce the distance at which the water meniscus breaks. Finally, the transition between the dominating effects at the nanoscopic scale and conventional capillary theory valid at microscopic size scales can be only rationalized if the presence of roughness asperities on the surface of the large particles is explicitly taken into account.
