text: We introduce the mobile server problem, inspired by current trends to move
computational tasks from cloud structures to multiple devices close to the end
user. An example for this are embedded systems in autonomous cars that communicate
in order to coordinate their actions. Our model is a variant of the classical
Page Migration Problem. Moreformally, we consider a mobile server holding a data
page. The server can move in the Euclidean space (of arbitrary dimension). In every
round, requests for data items from the page pop up at arbitrary points in the
space. The requests are served, each at a cost of the distance from the requesting
point and the server, and the mobile server may move, at a cost D times the distance
traveled for some constant D . We assume a maximum distance m the server is allowed
to move per round. We show that no online algorithm can achieve a competitive
ratio independent of the length of the input sequence in this setting. Hence we
augment the maximum movement distance of the online algorithms to ( 1 + δ) times
the maximum distance of the offline solution. We provide a deterministic algorithm
which is simple to describe and works for multiple variants of our problem. The
algorithm achieves almost tight competitive ratios independent of the length of
    the input sequence.

text: Design science is a fundamental research stream that contends its position
in the information systems discipline. While ongoing debates address the relative
importance of design science contributions in the information systems community,
insights into the scientific impact of design science research (DSR) are missing
and this lack of understanding arguably poses challenges to an informed discourse.
To identify the most influential papers and those factors that explain their scientific
impact, this paper presents an exploratory study of the scientific impact of DSR
papers published in the AIS Senior Scholars' Basket of Journals. We uncover the
current DSR landscape by taking stock of influential papers and theories and develop
a model to explain the scientific impact of DSR papers. Our findings show that
scientific impact is significantly explained by theorization and novelty. We discuss
how the implications of our work can be projected on the overarching discourse
    on DSR.

text: 'Literature reviews (LRs) are recognized for their increasing impact in the
information systems literature. Methodologists have drawn attention to the question
of how we can leverage the value of LRs to preserve and generate knowledge. The
panelists who participated in the discussion of ?Standalone Literature Reviews
in IS Research: What Can Be Learnt from the Past and Other Fields?? at ICIS 2016
in Dublin acknowledged this significant issue and debated a) what the IS field
can learn from other fields and where IS-specific challenges occur, b) how the
IS field should move forward to foster the genre of LRs, and c) what best practices
are to train doctoral IS students in publishing LRs. This article reports the
key takeaways of this panel discussion. Guidance for IS scholars is provided on
how to conduct LRs that contribute to the cumulative knowledge development within
and across the IS field to best prepare the next generation of IS scholars.'

text: Multi-attribute value theory (MAVT)-based recommender systems have been proposed
for dealing with issues of existing recommender systems, such as the cold-start
problem and changing preferences. However, as we argue in this paper, existing
MAVT-based methods for measuring attribute importance weights do not fit the shopping
tasks for which recommender systems are typically used. These methods assume well-trained
decision makers who are willing to invest time and cognitive effort, and who are
familiar with the attributes describing the available alternatives and the ranges
of these attribute levels. Yet, recommender systems are most often used by consumers
who are usually not familiar with the available attributes and ranges and who
wish to save time and effort. Against this background, we develop a new method,
based on a product configuration process, which is tailored to the characteristics
of these particular decision makers. We empirically compare our method to SWING,
ranking-based conjoint analysis and TRADEOFF in a between-subjects laboratory
experiment with 153 participants. Results indicate that our proposed method performs
better than TRADEOFF and CONJOINT and at least as well as SWING in terms of recommendation
accuracy, better than SWING and TRADEOFF and at least as well as CONJOINT in terms
of cognitive load, and that participants were faster with our method than with
any other method. We conclude that our method is a promising option to help support
consumers' decision processes in e-commerce shopping tasks.

text: Heterogeneous compute nodes in form of CPUs with attached GPU and FPGA accelerators
have strongly gained interested in the last years. Applications differ in their
execution characteristics and can therefore benefit from such heterogeneous resources
in terms of performance or energy consumption. While performance optimization
has been the only goal for a long time, nowadays research is more and more focusing
on techniques to minimize energy consumption due to rising electricity costs. This
paper presents reMinMin, a novel static list scheduling approach for optimizing
the total energy consumption for a set of tasks executed on a heterogeneous compute
node. reMinMin bases on a new energy model that differentiates between static
and dynamic energy components and covers effects of accelerator tasks on the host
CPU. The required energy values are retrieved by measurements on the real computing
system. In order to evaluate reMinMin, we compare it with two reference implementations
on three task sets with different degrees of heterogeneity. In our experiments,
MinMin is consistently better than a scheduler optimizing for dynamic energy only,
which requires up to 19.43% more energy, and very close to optimal schedules.

text: 'Coherent phonons can greatly vary light–matter interaction in semiconductor
nanostructures placed inside an optical resonator on a picosecond time scale.
For an ensemble of quantum dots (QDs) as active laser medium, phonons are able
to induce a large enhancement or attenuation of the emission intensity, as has
been recently demonstrated. The physics of this coupled phonon–exciton–light system
consists of various effects, which in the experiment typically cannot be clearly
separated, in particular, due to the complicated sample structure a rather complex
strain pulse impinges on the QD ensemble. Here we present a comprehensive theoretical
study how the laser emission is affected by phonon pulses of various shapes as
well as by ensembles with different spectral distributions of the QDs. This gives
insight into the fundamental interaction dynamics of the coupled phonon–exciton–light
system, while it allows us to clearly discriminate between two prominent effects:
the adiabatic shifting of the ensemble and the shaking effect. This paves the
way to a tailored laser emission controlled by phonons.'

text: We report on the coherent optical response from an ensemble of (In,Ga)As quantum
dots (QDs) embedded in a planar Tamm-plasmon microcavity with a quality factor
of approximately 100. Significant enhancement of the light-matter interaction
is demonstrated under selective laser excitation of those quantum dots which are
in resonance with the cavity mode. The enhancement is manifested through Rabi
oscillations of the photon echo, demonstrating coherent control of excitons with
picosecond pulses at intensity levels more than an order of magnitude smaller
as compared with bare quantum dots. The decay of the photon echo transients is
weakly changed by the resonator, indicating a small decrease of the coherence
time T2 which we attribute to the interaction with the electron plasma in the
metal layer located close (40 nm) to the QD layer. Simultaneously we see a reduction
of the population lifetime T1, inferred from the stimulated photon echo, due to
an enhancement of the spontaneous emission by a factor of 2, which is attributed
to the Purcell effect, while nonradiative processes are negligible, as confirmed
    from time-resolved photoluminescence.

text: Transient changes of the optical response of WS2 monolayers are studied by
femtosecond broadband pump–probe spectroscopy. Time-dependent absorption spectra
are analyzed by tracking the line width broadening, bleaching, and energy shift
of the main exciton resonance as a function of time delay after the excitation.
Two main sources for the pump-induced changes of the optical response are identified.
Specifically, we find an interplay between modifications induced by many-body
interactions from photoexcited carriers and by the subsequent transfer of the
excitation to the phonon system followed by cooling of the material through the
    heat transfer to the substrate.

text: Up to 400 mW of near-IR (1370-1500 nm) femtosecond pulses are generated from
an optical parametric amplifier directly driven by a Yb:fiber oscillator delivering
100\&\#x00A0;fs pulses at 1036 nm. The process is seeded by a stable supercontinuum
obtained from a photonic crystal fiber. We use a single pass through a 3 mm, magnesium
oxide-doped, periodically poled LiNbO3 downconversion crystal to produce a near-IR
pulse train with a remarkable power stability of 1.4 % (RMS) during one hour.
Tuning is achieved by the temperature and the poling period of the nonlinear crystal.
