text: "In recent years, Raman spectroscopy has been used to visualize and analyze
ferroelectric domain structures.\r\nThe technique makes use of the fact that the
intensity or frequency of certain phonons is strongly influenced\r\nby the presence
of domain walls. Although the method is used frequently, the underlying mechanism
responsible\r\nfor the changes in the spectra is not fully understood. This inhibits
deeper analysis of domain structures based\r\non this method. Two different models
have been proposed. However, neither model completely explains all\r\nobservations.
In this work, we have systematically investigated domain walls in different scattering
geometries\r\nwith Raman spectroscopy in the common ferroelectric materials used
in integrated optics, i.e., KTiOPO4,\r\nLiNbO3, and LiTaO3. Based on the two models,
we can demonstrate that the observed contrast for domain\r\nwalls is in fact based
on two different effects. We can identify on the one hand microscopic changes
at the\r\ndomain wall, e.g., strain and electric fields, and on the other hand
a macroscopic change of selection rules at the\r\ndomain wall. While the macroscopic
relaxation of selection rules can be explained by the directional dispersion\r\nof
the phonons in agreement with previous propositions, the microscopic changes can
be explained qualitatively\r\nin terms of a simplified atomistic model."

text: This contribution presents a speech enhancement system for the CHiME-5 Dinner
Party Scenario. The front-end employs multi-channel linear time-variant filtering
and achieves its gains without the use of a neural network. We present an adaptation
of blind source separation techniques to the CHiME-5 database which we call Guided
Source Separation (GSS). Using the baseline acoustic and language model, the combination
of Weighted Prediction Error based dereverberation, guided source separation,
and beamforming reduces the WER by 10:54% (relative) for the single array track
and by 21:12% (relative) on the multiple array track.

text: "Signal processing in WASNs is based on a software framework for hosting the
algorithms as well as on a set of wireless connected devices representing the
hardware. Each of the nodes contributes memory, processing power, communication
bandwidth and some sensor information for the tasks to be solved on the network.
\r\nIn this paper we present our MARVELO framework for distributed signal processing.
It is intended for transforming existing centralized implementations into distributed
versions. To this end, the software only needs a block-oriented implementation,
which MARVELO picks-up and distributes on the network. Additionally, our sensor
node hardware and the audio interfaces responsible for multi-channel recordings
    are presented."

text: This study explores how entrepreneurs develop human resources within their
firms. Based on an analysis of interviews with entrepreneurs and new venture consultants,
we describe entrepreneurs' human resources development (HRD) approaches. We found
that entrepreneurs rely on networking and creativity, aim to leverage employees'
interest and competencies, and allow cocreation by employees; current requirements
and situational conditions shape entrepreneurs' HRD decisions. To elaborate on
our findings, we draw on the distinction between causation and effectuation. We
describe an entrepreneurial HRD process that combines both a causation‐based and
    an effectuation‐based HRD approach.

  text:
Abstract
This study posits that, in the absence
of extensive mandatory regulation and auditing, differences in internal and external
corporate governance (CG) mechanisms will explain variations in choices concerning
corporate sustainability reporting and the interrelated and underlying corporate
sustainability performance (CSP). Specifically, we explore whether board monitoring
effectiveness as a major internal CG mechanism and stakeholder engagement as a
key external CG mechanism are positively associated with sustainability reporting
quality (SRQ), compliance with generally accepted sustainability reporting standards
(SRC) and guidelines, and CSP for a sample of Dutch firms that have voluntarily
disclosed sustainability reports during the years 2012–2016. In addition to these
direct effects, we also investigate the potential indirect effects of the CG mechanisms
on SRQ and SRC via CSP and distinguish between nonlagged and lag effects. Using
structural equation modeling, our results show that, in the short term, monitoring
effectiveness positively affects SRQ and SRC. Stakeholder engagement positively
affects SRQ and SRC in the short term and is positively related to SRQ via CSP
in the longer term, indicating that active stakeholders, over time, may drive
companies toward more sustainable business conduct. Finally, the findings that
CSP is positively related to SRQ but negatively related to SRC provide further
support for signaling and legitimacy theory, respectively. Companies with superior
CSP disclose high‐quality information on CSP to signal the firm's superior sustainability
performance, whereas poor performing companies legitimize their inferior CSP by
complying with more reporting standards, rather than by directly improving their

  text:
CSP disclose high‐quality information on CSP to signal the firm's superior sustainability
performance, whereas poor performing companies legitimize their inferior CSP by
complying with more reporting standards, rather than by directly improving their
    underlying CSP.

text: The effective control design of a dynamical system traditionally relies on
a high level of system understanding, usually expressed in terms of an exact physical
model. In contrast to this, reinforcement learning adopts a data-driven approach
and constructs an optimal control strategy by interacting with the underlying
system. To keep the wear of real-world systems as low as possible, the learning
process should be short. In our research, we used the state-of-the-art reinforcement
learning method PILCO to design a feedback control strategy for the swing-up of
the double pendulum on a cart with remarkably few test iterations at the test
bench. PILCO stands for “probabilistic inference for learning control” and requires
only few expert knowledge for learning. To achieve the swing-up of a double pendulum
on a cart to its upper unstable equilibrium position, we introduce additional
state restrictions to PILCO, so that the limited cart distance can be taken into
account. Thanks to these measures, we were able to learn the swing up at the real
test bench for the first time and in only 27 learning iterations.
