Emilie Du Châtelet genoss in der deutschen Aufklärung eine hohe Reputation. Sie verband Leibniz Metaphysik mit der Physik von Newton und gelangte zu erstaunlichen Ergebnissen, die die Physik auf den Weg zu Einsteins Energieformel führte. Ihre Werke wurden sofort ins Deutsche übersetzt, Kant nimmt in seiner ersten Dissertation von 1747 auf sie Bezug. Die Sammlung stellt Texte vor, die den Einfluss der deutschen Aufklärung auf Du Châtelets und Du Châtelets Einfluss auf die deutsche Philosophie diskutieren. Die großen Namen der Epoche stehen hier zur Debatte, Leibniz, Wolff, Boskovic, Euler, Friedrich II, Voltaire, La Mettrie und viele weitere Größen der Aufklärung werden in ihrem Zusammenhang mit Du Châtelet vorgestellt. }},

  abstract     = {{Abstract · Émilie Du Châtelet (1706-1749), Laura Bassi (1711-1778), and Luise Gottsched (1713-1762) were three philosophers and scientists of outstanding im-portance in their epoch. However, the attribution of importance and reputation to women’s intellectual achievements in this period is a case of its own. This paper investigates the methodical attempt of 18th century historiography, presenting the example of Jakob Brucker and his Pinacoteca to relocate intellectual women in his history of philosophy and science. The relative integration of women into the 18th century intellectual sphere is the starting point of this methodical investigation to retrace its ‘why and how’.

  abstract     = {{Thin film lithium niobate has been of great interest recently, and an understanding of periodically poled thin films is crucial for both fundamental physics and device developments. Second-harmonic (SH) microscopy allows for the noninvasive visualization and analysis of ferroelectric domain structures and walls. While the technique is well understood in bulk lithium niobate, SH microscopy in thin films is largely influenced by interfacial reflections and resonant enhancements, which depend on film thicknesses and substrate materials. We present a comprehensive analysis of SH microscopy in x-cut lithium niobate thin films, based on a full three-dimensional focus calculation and accounting for interface reflections. We show that the dominant signal in backreflection originates from a copropagating phase-matched process observed through reflections, rather than direct detection of the counterpropagating signal as in bulk samples. We simulate the SH signatures of domain structures by a simple model of the domain wall as an extensionless transition from a −χ(2) to a +χ(2) region. This allows us to explain the main observation of domain structures in the thin-film geometry, and, in particular, we show that the SH signal from thin poled films allows to unambiguously distinguish areas, which are completely or only partly inverted in depth.}},

  abstract     = {{This paper addresses multimodality of multi-objective (MO) optimization landscapes. Contrary to common perception of local optima, according to which they are hindering the progress of optimization algorithms, it will be shown that local efficient sets in a multi-objective setting can assist optimizers in finding global efficient sets. We use sophisticated visualization techniques, which rely on gradient field heatmaps, to highlight those insights into landscape characteristics. Finally, the MO local optimizer MOGSA is introduced, which exploits those observations by sliding down the multi-objective gradient hill and moving along the local efficient sets.}},
