@inproceedings{25265, abstract = {{Waveguide-based methods can be used for the non-destructive determination of acoustic material parameters. One of these methods is based on transmission measurements of cylindrical polymeric specimens. Here, the experimental setup consists of two transducers, which excite and receive the waveguide modes at the faces of the cylinder. The measurement, as well as a forward model, are used to determine material parameters of the polymeric specimen in an inverse approach. 1-3 piezoelectric composites are used as an active element because they can be approximated by a thickness vibration only. This allows an easy identification of Mason model parameters to characterise the transducers’ vibration behaviour. However, sensitivity analysis shows a high uncertainty in the determination of the mechanical shear parameters due to the uniform excitation. To increase the sensitivity to these shear motions, arbitrary excitations were investigated by means of numerical simulation. In order to be able to realise the determined optimal excitation, new transducer prototypes were designed. By subdividing the electrodes of the active element, for example, ring-shaped excitation is feasible. Furthermore, it can be shown that modelling these transducers with a one-dimensional Mason model is sufficient.}}, author = {{Dreiling, Dmitrij and Itner, Dominik and Feldmann, Nadine and Scheidemann, Claus and Gravenkamp, Hauke and Henning, Bernd}}, booktitle = {{Fortschritte der Akustik - DAGA 2021}}, location = {{Wien}}, publisher = {{Deutsche Gesellschaft für Akustik e.V. A newly developed procedure can be used to identify the behaviour of piezoceramic discs over a wide frequency range using a single specimen via fitting simulated and measured impedances by optimising the underlying material parameters. Since there is no generally accepted damping model for piezoelectric ceramics, several mechanical damping models are examined for the material identification. Three models have been chosen and their ability to replicate the measured impedances is evaluated. On the one hand, the common Rayleigh model is considered as a reference. On the other hand, a Zener model and a model using complex constants are extended to model the transversely isotropic material. As the Rayleigh model is only valid for a limited frequency range, it fails to model the broadband behaviour of the material. The model using complex constants leads to the best fit over a wide frequency range while at the same time only adding three additional parameters for modelling damping. Modular SSTs which can be interpreted as modular multilevel converters with an isolated DC-DC output stage per module, are designed with redundant modules to increase reliability. Usually, each of the three arms operates independently, and therefore, only a fixed number of faulty modules can be compensated in each arm, even if all modules are operational in the remaining two arms. With the proposed zero-sequence voltage injection, up to 100% more faulty modules can be compensated in an arm by employing the same hardware. In addition, module power imbalances are nearly eliminated by utilizing a fundamental frequency zero-sequence voltage. A dominant 3rd harmonic zero-sequence voltage injection in combination with the 5th, 7th and several higher order harmonics with adaptive (small) amplitudes minimize the required arm voltages at steady-state. For nominal operation or symmetrical faults, the proposed technique is equivalent to the well known Min-Max voltage injection, which already reduces the peak arm voltage by 13.4% compared to a constant star point potential. This study empirically examines how academics’ citation patterns have changed in response to the rise of an “evaluation environment” in academia. We regard the WURs to be a macro-level trigger for cementing a bibliometric-based evaluation environment in academia. Our analyses of citation patterns in papers published in two higher education journals explicitly considered three distinct periods: the pre-WURs (1990–2003), the period of WURs implementation (2004–2010), and the period of adaption to WURs (2011–2017). We applied the nonparametric Kaplan–Meier method to compare first-citation speeds of papers published across the three periods. We found that not only has first-citation speed become faster, but first-citation probability has also increased following the emergence of the WURs. Applying Cox proportional hazard models to first-citation probabilities, we identified journal impact factors and third-party funding as factors influencing first-citation probability, while other author- and paper-related factors showed limited effects. We also found that the general effects of different factors on first-citation speeds have changed with the emergence of the WURs. Moreover, there is preliminary evidence that the relationship between testosterone, CAG repeat length, and the severity of depressive symptoms may differ between subclinical and overt depression, but this has neither been studied in a clinical sample of adolescents with depression nor compared between subclinical and overt depression in an adequately powered study. To investigate the relationship between free testosterone, CAG repeat length of the AR, depression status (subclinical vs. overt), and the severity of depressive symptoms, 118 boys treated as in- or daycare patients at a single psychiatric hospital were studied. Of these, 73 boys had at least mild depressive symptoms according to the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II > 13). Higher-order moderation analysis in the multiple regression framework revealed a constant relationship between free testosterone and depression severity irrespective of the number of CAG repeats in adolescents with a BDI-II score ≤ 13. In adolescents with a BDI-II score > 13, however, there was a significant negative relationship between free testosterone and BDI-II score in patients with <19 CAG repeats and a significant positive relationship regarding free testosterone and BDI-II score in those with more than 28 CAG repeats, even when considering important covariates. These results suggest that the effects of testosterone on mood in male adolescents with depression depend on the genetic make-up of the AR as well as on depression status. Intercalation of anions into a graphite positive electrode provides high operating voltage and improved energy density to such dual-ion batteries. In this work, we have performed a combinatorial study of graphite intercalation compounds considering four anions, namely hexafluorophosphate (PF 6 ), perchlorate (ClO 4 ), bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (FSI), and bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI), via first-principles calculations. The structural properties and energetics of the intercalation compounds are compared based on different sizes, geometries, and the physical and chemical properties of the intercalated anions. The staging mechanism of anion intercalation into graphite and the specific capacities, and voltage profiles of the intercalated compounds are investigated. A comparison regarding battery electrochemistry is also done with available experimental observations. Our calculated intercalation energies and voltage profiles show that the initial anion intercalation into graphite is less favorable than subsequent ones for all the anions considered in this study. Although the effect of the size of anions in a graphite cathode on various properties of the intercalated compounds is not as significant as the size of cations in a graphite anode, some distinction between the studied anions can still be made. Among the studied anions, the intercalation compounds based on PF 6 are the most stable ones. These PF 6 anions cause relatively small structural deformations of the graphite and have the highest oxidative ability, highest onset voltage, and highest diffusion barrier along the graphene sheets. The following analysis considers - within a simple model - the potentially crucial role of a Corona testing approach in combination with a quarantine approach which is shown herein to be a substitute for broad lockdown measures. The cost of lockdowns/shutdowns are rather high so that – beyond progress in terms of a broad vaccination program – a rational testing strategy should also be carefully considered. Testing has to be organized on the basis of an adequate testing infrastructure which could largely be implemented in firms, schools, universities and public administration settings. As regards the cost of a systematic broad Covid-19 testing strategy, these could come close to 0.5% of national income if there are no vaccinations. The Testing & Quarantine approach suggested here – with tests for symptomatic as well as asymptomatic people - is based on a random sampling and would require rather broad and frequent testing; possibly one test per person every 7–10 days. At the same time, one should consider that the cost of further lockdowns/shutdowns of a duration of 1 month could be very high, such that a standard cost benefit analysis supports the testing approach suggested herein. Also, an optimal policy mix could be designed where both vaccinations and testing play a crucial role. As of late January 2021, no further lockdowns in Germany and other OECD countries would be necessary if a broad testing infrastructure can be established rather quickly. This in turn will reinforce economic optimism and help to jumpstart economic growth in Europe, the US and Asia in a solid way. Recent results suggest that trilinear products of quaternion-valued embeddings can be a more effective means to tackle link prediction. In addition, models based on convolutions on real-valued embeddings often yield state-of-the-art results for link prediction. In this paper, we investigate a composition of convolution operations with hypercomplex multiplications. We propose the four approaches QMult, OMult, ConvQ and ConvO to tackle the link prediction problem. QMult and OMult can be considered as quaternion and octonion extensions of previous state-of-the-art approaches, including DistMult and ComplEx. ConvQ and ConvO build upon QMult and OMult by including convolution operations in a way inspired by the residual learning framework. We evaluated our approaches on seven link prediction datasets including WN18RR, FB15K-237 and YAGO3-10. Experimental results suggest that the benefits of learning hypercomplex-valued vector representations become more apparent as the size and complexity of the knowledge graph grows. ConvO outperforms state-of-the-art approaches on FB15K-237 in MRR, Hit@1 and Hit@3, while QMult, OMult, ConvQ and ConvO outperform state-of-the-approaches on YAGO3-10 in all metrics. However, the non-isothermal nature of these processes leads to challenges in evaluating the forming limits, since established methods such as Forming Limit Curves (FLCs) only allow the assessment of critical forming strains for steady temperatures. For this reason, a temperature-dependent extension of the well-established GISSMO (Generalized Incremental Stress State Dependent Damage Model) fracture indicator framework is developed by the authors to predict forming failures under non-isothermal conditions. In this paper, a general approach to combine several isothermal FLCs within the temperature-extended GISSMO model into a temperature-dependent forming limit surface is investigated. The general capabilities of the model are tested in a coupled thermo-mechanical FEA using the example of warm forming of an AA5182-O sheet metal cross-die cup. The obtained results are then compared with state of the art of evaluation methods. By taking the strain and temperature path into account, GISSMO predicts greater drawing depths by up to 20% than established methods. In this way the forming and so the lightweight potential of sheet metal parts can by fully exploited. Moreover, the risk and locus of failure can be evaluated directly on the part geometry by a contour plot. An additional advantage of the GISSMO model is the applicability for low triaxialities as well as the possibility to predict the materials behavior beyond necking up to ductile fracture.}}, author = {{Camberg, Alan Adam and Erhart, Tobias and Tröster, Thomas}}, issn = {{1996-1944}}, journal = {{Materials}}, keywords = {{General Materials Science}}, number = {{17}}, publisher = {{MDPI AG}}, title = {{{A Generalized Stress State and Temperature Dependent Damage Indicator Framework for Ductile Failure Prediction in Heat-Assisted Forming Operations}}}, doi = {{10.3390/ma14175106}}, volume = {{14}}, year = {{2021}}, } @book{33894, editor = {{Famula, Marta and Otto Eke, Norbert}}, publisher = {{Aisthesis}}, title = {{{Ästhetik im Vormärz. Therefore, a suitable prognostic approach to predict the remaining useful lifetime of complex technical systems is required. To handle different kinds of uncertainties, a novel Multi-Model-Particle Filtering-based prognostic approach is developed and evaluated by the use case of rubber-metal-elements. These elements are maintained preventively due to the strong influence of uncertainties on their behavior. In this paper, two measurement quantities are compared concerning their ability to establish a prediction of the remaining useful lifetime of the monitored elements and the influence of present uncertainties. Based on three performance indices, the results are evaluated. A comparison with predictions of a classical Particle Filter underlines the superiority of the developed Multi-Model-Particle Filter. Finally, the value of the developed method for enabling condition monitoring of technical systems related to uncertainties is given exemplary by a comparison between the preventive and the predictive maintenance strategy for the use case.}}, author = {{Bender, Amelie}}, issn = {{2075-1702}}, journal = {{Machines}}, keywords = {{prognostics, RUL predictions, particle filter, uncertainty consideration, Multi-Model-Particle Filter, model-based approach, rubber-metal-elements, predictive maintenance}}, number = {{10}}, title = {{{A Multi-Model-Particle Filtering-Based Prognostic Approach to Consider Uncertainties in RUL Predictions}}}, doi = {{10.3390/machines9100210}}, volume = {{9}}, year = {{2021}}, } @article{30698, author = {{Gröger, B. and Köhler, D. and Vorderbrüggen, J. and Troschitz, J. and Kupfer, R. and Meschut, G. and Gude, M.}}, journal = {{Production Engineering}}, title = {{{Computed tomography investigation of the material structure in clinch joints in aluminium fibre-reinforced thermoplastic sheets}}}, doi = {{10.1007/s11740-021-01091-x}}, year = {{2021}}, }
