A promising process to manufacture these nanoparticles is flame spray pyrolysis (FSP). A lack of understanding of the individual sub-processes in FSP makes it challenging to tailor nanoparticle properties. This work provides insights into the formation of iron oxide nanoparticles in a turbulent spray flame using Large Eddy Simulations (LES), which are based on a comprehensive model, including customized submodels. Highlights are the adaption of a turbulent combustion model and a bivariate hybrid method of moments for modeling nanoparticle dynamics. The work focuses on the SpraySyn burner, which is a standardized laboratory burner and was operated with a precursor-solvent mixture of ethanol and iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate. For studying the relevance of precursor chemistry, LES using an evaporation-limited precursor chemistry model is compared with a model that includes detailed iron chemistry. A further novelty is the inclusion of adsorption in the simulation, which defines a third model for comparison. Sufficient validation is achieved for the undoped LES using experimental data from the literature. A strong impact of the detailed iron chemistry and adsorption is found on the precursor consumption and the aggregate and primary particle formation. Comparing the particle diameters with experimental measurements from the literature and data generated for this work is found unsuitable to asses the precursor chemistry model and revealed an urgent need for future experimental and numerical research. In machine learning approaches based on linear models, it is well known that there exists a connecting path between the sparsest solution in terms of the $\ell^1$ norm,i.e., zero weights and the non-regularized solution, which is called the regularization path. Very recently, there was a first attempt to extend the concept of regularization paths to DNNs by means of treating the empirical loss and sparsity ($\ell^1$ norm) as two conflicting criteria and solving the resulting multiobjective optimization problem. However, due to the non-smoothness of the $\ell^1$ norm and the high number of parameters, this approach is not very efficient from a computational perspective. To overcome this limitation, we present an algorithm that allows for the approximation of the entire Pareto front for the above-mentioned objectives in a very efficient manner. Force-displacement measurements and macrosections are commonly used methods to validate numerical models of clinching processes. In contrast, the in-situ computed tomography (CT) can provide three-dimensional images of the clinching point under loading conditions. So far, the quantity of elastic springback that causes measuring deviations between in- and ex-situ measurements is not determined. In this paper, a method is described to quantitatively compare the results of in-situ CT, ex-situ CT and CT scans of cut specimens, which are prepared for macrosectioning, among each other. The method is applied to a single-lap shear test of two clinched aluminum sheets. Here, the test is conducted to specific process steps, then the specimen is CT scanned in-situ (during loading) and ex-situ (after unloading). Subsequently, the specimens are cut for macrosectioning and CT scanned. Finally, the outer contours and the interfaces of cross section images are determined by digital image analysis and the deviations over the clinching point between ex- and in-situ methods are calculated. }}, author = {{Köhler, Daniel and Kupfer, Robert and Troschitz, Juliane and Gude, Maik}}, booktitle = {{Materials Research Proceedings}}, issn = {{2474-395X}}, publisher = {{Materials Research Forum LLC}}, title = {{{Comparison of ex- and in-situ investigations of clinched single-lap shear specimens}}}, doi = {{10.21741/9781644902417-20}}, year = {{2023}}, } @inbook{51194, author = {{Köhler, Daniel and Stephan, Richard and Kupfer, Robert and Troschitz, Juliane and Brosius, Alexander and Gude, Maik}}, booktitle = {{Lecture Notes in Production Engineering}}, isbn = {{9783031183171}}, issn = {{2194-0525}}, publisher = {{Springer International Publishing}}, title = {{{In-situ Computed Tomography and Transient Dynamic Analysis of a Single-Lap Shear Test with a Composite-Metal Clinch Point}}}, doi = {{10.1007/978-3-031-18318-8_28}}, year = {{2023}}, } @article{31189, abstract = {{Given a geometrically finite hyperbolic surface of infinite volume it is a classical result of Patterson that the positive Laplace-Beltrami operator has no $L^2$-eigenvalues $\geq 1/4$. To prepare them adequately for the demands of their future teaching profession, it is essential to know (i) which subject-specific competences and skills they need and (ii) how these can be acquired in teacher education. However, empirical findings on necessary competences as well as on the design of teacher training courses are scarcely available on the subject of technology, since mainly general, normative recommendations on potential study contents exist. To fill this gap, this work focuses on the investigation of necessary practical competences of prospective technology teachers. The acquisition of such practical competences and skills is of great importance for the school subject of technology when, for example, machines are operated, tools are used, or objects are designed and manufactured. However, there is a lack of a differentiated description of the practical requirements for technology teachers and the teaching-learning processes required for this in the teacher training. The aim of this work is therefore the theory- and empirically-guided development and evaluation of a practical demand-oriented course for the technology teacher training programme at RWTH Aachen University to promote subject-specific practical competences. The development was structured as an iterative process by the Model of Educational Reconstruction (MER), according to which three major aspects were investigated and connected. (1) In a first step, the competences to be acquired were described and structured, taking normative perspectives into account as well as an empirical needs assessment among teachers and teacher educators to clarify and analyse the science subject matter. (2) In a second step, the student teacher´s perspective was surveyed to adapt the course to their initial competences, skills and experiences. (3) In a third step, the content and the didactic structure of the practical course was developed iteratively, considering the findings of the preceding steps and various requirements for the design and the tasks of the practical course (e.g., a necessary differentiation or a self-directed examination of the practical tasks in the course). The practical course was taught in several runs and evaluated with respect to the perceived learning outcomes of the student teachers as well as to the quality of the course. The evaluation was carried out through self-assessment of the students in a questionnaire and a written portfolio. The findings of the evaluation indicate a positive perception regarding the quality of the course. The students positively assessed the course structure (e.g., sequence of the course contents) and individual course elements (e.g., concrete course tasks). Furthermore, an increase in practical competences and skills – regardless of initial experience – was found. The work provides groundwork for further studies, for example on the level of competence acquisition or the long-term effect of the practical course.}}, author = {{Ermel, Dorothee Leonie}}, publisher = {{RWTH Aachen University}}, title = {{{Entwicklung und Evaluation eines Fachpraktikums für das Lehramtsstudium Technik zur Förderung fachpraktischer Kompetenzen}}}, doi = {{10.18154/RWTH-2023-03787}}, year = {{2023}}, } @inbook{46182, author = {{Drepper, Laura and Herrmann, Franziska and Nußbaum, Alena}}, booktitle = {{Schreibunterricht.
