The increasing use of aluminium alloys and ultra-high-strength steels, such as CP1000, in automotive lightweight design imposes stringent requirements on mechanical joining technologies. Self-piercing riveting (SPR) is widely used in multi-material structures; however, conventional rivet systems are limited ranges of material and sheet thickness. To address this limitation, Kappe et al. introduced versatile self-piercing riveting (V-SPR), which combines an extended punch actuator with a multi-range-capable rivet to enable joining of materials with tensile strengths up to 600 MPa without tool changes.

This study presents a comparative investigation of a multi-range-capable rivet for V-SPR and conventional standard rivets in CP1000–aluminium and aluminium–aluminium joints. The analysis focuses on joint formation and mechanical performance under shear-tensile and cross-tensile loading. Metallographic cross-sections are used to characterise interlock formation, minimum die-side material thickness, and failure modes. Mechanical performance is evaluated using quasi-static tests, with emphasis on maximum load and failure mode. The experiments establish a demonstrated joinability matrix for the investigated sheet-thickness combinations using adapted punch and die motions. The results demonstrate the applicability of V-SPR to ultra-high-strength steel–aluminium and aluminium–aluminium joints. For the most industrially relevant combination investigated, St1.5–Al2.0 (CP1000–EN AW-6014), V-SPR achieves mechanical performance comparable to or higher than that of standard SPR while substantially reducing tool complexity through a single multi-range-capable rivet, a reduced die configuration, and fewer stack-specific changeovers. However, the independently driven inner and outer punches and active die increase actuator and control-system complexity.

abstract = {{This research article addresses the critical gap in describing human capabilities for assembly, disassembly and reassembly processes in production systems at a granular level. As circular economy principles become essential in manufacturing, understanding production-centered capabilityr equirements is increasingly vital. While most metadata models focus on technical resources, existing human capability models either focus narrowly on human-robot collaboration or lack integration across diverse capability dimensions. This study conducts a systematic literature review following the PRISMA scheme, examining different scientific databases to develop a comprehensive, production-centered metadata model. The resulting model formalizes three fundamental classes as well as two supplemental classes for describing human resources while incorporating knowledge and possible legal requirements essential for production environments. The present article proposes a holistic integration of capabilities from a human factor perspective, with the objective of facilitating data science and artificial intelligence approaches to inform decisions in the product creation process. The developed metadata model provides the foundation for decision support systems that match human capabilities to specific production tasks and requirements, advancing circular manufacturing practices and sustainable production system design.}},

In this work, we introduce the design and simulation of a scalable on-chip grid of RISC-V processors with local memories in a structured EDA flow. We specify a Grid of Processing Cells (GPC) with two non-trivial software applications and successively generate and validate the hardware models at lower abstraction levels, namely TLM, ISS, RTL, and FPGA. Our comprehensive experimental evaluation of a physical implementation on an FPGA shows the true scalability of the GPC architecture. While existing works have indicated performance benefits for GPCs at high abstraction levels, our results confirm their highly reduced interconnect contention for the first time on fully constructed hardware with clock-cycle accuracy at RTL and on FPGAs.}},

abstract = {{In this paper, we discuss the application of retrospective video recall for the assessment of cognitive processes in explanatory interactions, such as understanding and mental models. Our purpose is to reflect on the benefits and limitations of video recall compared to another self-report method, ‘thinking-aloud’. To do so, we reveal empirical results from the application of video recall in three interdisciplinary research projects that applied the method for the qualitative and quantitative assessment of cognitive and behavioral phenomena in everyday explanations. In all three projects, video recall was applied as a post-hoc procedure following the recording of dyadic face-to-face explanations of board games. The design of the video recall procedure differed between individual projects because they pursued different research objectives – that is the investigation of (1) an interlocutor's multimodal signals of understanding, (2) the change in assumptions about an interlocutor's dispositional and situational knowledge, and (3) the differentiated assessment of an interlocutor's developing understanding of domain knowledge aspects by distinguishing between mechanistic and functional explanatory stances. By discussing the benefits and the limitations of each procedure, this article provides critical reflections on video recall as a versatile research method applied for the analysis of human multimodal behavior in interaction and cognitive processing.}},

abstract = {{The metal-organic framework CPO-27 exhibits free coordination sites (open metal sites) and can be prepared with a wide range of metals that influence its properties. It is therefore an intriguing structure to study sorption phenomena. We analyze the water resistance and sorption behavior of these frameworks, with particular attention to the sorption mechanism in detail and the structure of the confined water molecules. For this purpose, we use manometric water vapor sorption analysis and FTIR spectroscopy. The respective metal center orchestrates both the adsorption behavior and the arrangement of the water molecules in the micropores of the framework. The extent to which water molecules form hydrogen bonds (with each other and with framework oxygen atoms) plays a crucial role in the stability of the framework towards water. Water adsorption is governed by the coordination of water molecules to the open metal sites (except for CPO-27-Cu) and subsequent H-bonding. A stepwise adsorption of water is observed, with significant differences depending on the choice of metal.}},
