abstract = {{This study investigates the teaching methods that future teachers of German as a foreign language use in cultural mediation. Utilizing a qualitative and hermeneutic approach, it analyzes data from a teacher-training module of the International Master's in German as a Foreign/Second Language that Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany offers. Participants taught an online course to students from a Japanese university, which focused on cultural learning. Within the teacher training module, the participants discussed their lesson plans, conducted classes, and subsequently reflected on their teaching practices by exploring and critiquing the practical application of their teaching skills. The analysis, which was conducted using qualitative evaluative content analysis following Kuckartz's (2018) approach, revealed a preference for distributive/instructive methods, with some recognition of interactive and collaborative methods. A tendency towards both repetitive and reflective practices was evident, with a predominant focus on content that was specific to a supposed target culture rather than intercultural or transcultural content. The study highlights the need to balance knowledge transmission with the development of critical and reflective skills in cultural mediation. It emphasizes the importance of incorporating collaborative and interactive methods, which promote a critical attitude that is necessary in language teachers and learners. In conclusion, this study advocates adaptive and reflective teaching as an essential component in the training of future language teachers in globalized contexts.}},

abstract = {{Richard Wagner is considered a prominent critic of incidental music, as he called for the abolition of randomly inserted music between acts in plays. However, he greatly appreciated music composed especially for a play, such as Beethoven's music for Goethe's Egmont. In the early 1830s, he himself wrote several pieces of music for plays that have not been fully preserved. The text analyses Wagner's theatre music aesthetics in the context of contemporary aesthetics and theatre practice and provides a general overview of the music that has been handed down. His surviving theatre overtures show a high level of musical sophistication in the early engagement with symphonic music, as well as an effort to shape instrumental music according to dramatic content. They point to role models such as Beethoven and Mendelssohn. A more practical theatrical view of Wagner's theatrical music could open up new perspectives for his theatrical music and insights into the theatrical practice of the time.}},

  abstract     = {{
Historical condition monitoring data from technical systems can be utilized to develop data-driven models for predicting the remaining useful life (RUL) of similar systems, whereas the Health Index (HI) often is a crucial component. The development of robust and accurate models requires meaningful features that reflect the system’s degradation process, enabling an accurate prediction of the system's HI. Traditionally, the identification of those is supported by one of various feature ranking methods. In literature, feature interdependencies and their transferability across various similar systems are not sufficiently considered in feature selection, exacerbating the challenge of HI prediction posed by the scarcity of data and system diversity in real-world applications. This work addresses this gaps by demonstrating how filter-based feature selection, incorporating failure thresholds and cross correlations, enhances feature selection leading to improved HI prediction. The proposed methodology is applied to a novel dataset* obtained from run-to-failure experiments on geared motors conducted as part of this study, which presents the aforementioned challenges. It is revealed that classical feature selection, consisting of feature ranking only, leaves potential untapped, which is utilized by the proposed selection methodology. It is shown that the proposed feature selection methodology leads to the best result with a RMSE of 0.14 in predicting the HI of a constructive different gearbox, while the features, determined by classical feature selection, lead to a RMSE of 0.19 at best.
}},

  abstract     = {{
This work analyses load profiles for East African microgrids, and then investigates the integration of electric two-wheelers and portable storage into a solar PV with battery microgrid in Uganda, East Africa. By introducing e-mobility and portable storage, demand side management strategic load growth can thus be achieved and electricity access can be expanded. Battery degradation is also considered. The results showed a 98.5% reduction in PV energy curtailment and a 57% reduction in the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) from 0.808 USD/kWh to 0.350 USD/kWh when the electric two-wheeler and portable storage loads were introduced. Such reductions are important enablers of financial viability and sustainability of microgrids. It is possible to avoid emissions of up to 73.27 tons of CO2/year with the proposed e-bikes, and an average of 160 customers could be served annually as off-microgrid consumers without requiring an investment in additional distribution infrastructure. Annual revenue could be increased by 135% by incorporating the additional loads. Sensitivity analyses were conducted by varying component costs, the battery lifetime, the interest rate, and the priority weighting of the additional loads. The battery costs were found to be a major contributor to lifecycle costs (LCC) and also have a big impact on the LCOE. The interest rate significantly affects the LCC as well.
}},

The majority of mini-grids in Tanzania are managed by private entities, faith-based institutions, and the government. In contrast, a limited number of mini-grids under community management strive to survive. Although the concept of “sense of ownership” is considered crucial for mini-grid sustainability in developing countries, there is limited theoretical exploration of the factors that drive this concept and its effects on community mini-grid management. This paper assesses the relationship between the sense of ownership among electricity users and the effective management of two solar community-based mini-grids with different sustainability experience.

A sense of ownership plays a role in establishing the decision-making process of mini-grids among village energy committee members toward sustainable or unsustainable management. The mechanisms behind the sense of ownership among community members toward managing mini-grids are largely expedited by the strong leadership of village energy committee members, community participation in decision-making and resource mobilisation, especially in the preparation, design and implementation phases of mini-grids.
