In nearly every study, participants were tested in a sitting posture (and not standing). However, when considering embodied cognition approaches on mental processes, participants may not be able to fully exploit these processes when performing mental rotation tasks in a sitting posture.
\r\nAIM: Therefore, the aim of the present study is to examine the potential influence of two different postures (sitting vs. standing), when solving mental body rotation tasks.
\r\nMETHOD: Sixteen participants (6 females) were tested in two mental body-rotation tasks (MBRT), requiring either an object-based spatial transformation (based on a same-different judgment) or an egocentric transformation (based on a left-right judgment) in a sitting and in a standing posture. Reaction times and response errors were analysed in two three-way ANOVAs, with the factors orientation, task, and posture.
\r\nRESULTS: Results revealed an effect of orientation and task, indicating that participants performed better for egocentric than for object-based transformations. However, there was no effect of posture.
\r\nCONCLUSION: The different dynamics of postural control during sitting and standing do not induce different embodiment effects on mental rotation.","lang":"eng"}],"volume":14,"date_created":"2023-01-20T14:40:38Z","status":"public","publication":"Brazilian Journal of Motor Behavior","keyword":["General Engineering"],"quality_controlled":"1","publisher":"Brazilian Journal for Motor Behavior","author":[{"full_name":"Budde, Kirsten","first_name":"Kirsten","last_name":"Budde"},{"first_name":"José Angelo","full_name":"Barela, José Angelo","last_name":"Barela"},{"first_name":"Gabriella Andreeta","full_name":"Figueiredo, Gabriella Andreeta","last_name":"Figueiredo"},{"first_name":"Matthias","full_name":"Weigelt, Matthias","last_name":"Weigelt","id":"36388"}],"doi":"10.20338/bjmb.v14i2.165","date_updated":"2023-01-23T13:30:20Z","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"title":"Mental body rotation with egocentric and object-based transformations in different postures: sitting vs. standing","publication_status":"published","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2446-4902","1980-5586"]},"department":[{"_id":"266"}]},{"title":"The role of different directions of attention on the extent of implicit perception in soccer penalty kicking","department":[{"_id":"266"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["0167-9457"]},"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2023-01-23T13:30:03Z","doi":"10.1016/j.humov.2020.102586","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"user_id":"75770","publication":"Human Movement Science","keyword":["Experimental and Cognitive Psychology","Orthopedics and Sports Medicine","General Medicine","Biophysics"],"author":[{"full_name":"Memmert, Daniel","first_name":"Daniel","last_name":"Memmert"},{"first_name":"Benjamin","full_name":"Noël, Benjamin","last_name":"Noël"},{"first_name":"Daniel","full_name":"Machlitt, Daniel","last_name":"Machlitt"},{"full_name":"van der Kamp, John","first_name":"John","last_name":"van der Kamp"},{"id":"36388","last_name":"Weigelt","full_name":"Weigelt, Matthias","first_name":"Matthias"}],"quality_controlled":"1","publisher":"Elsevier BV","date_created":"2023-01-21T13:28:43Z","status":"public","volume":70,"intvolume":" 70","_id":"37824","article_number":"102586","citation":{"chicago":"Memmert, Daniel, Benjamin Noël, Daniel Machlitt, John van der Kamp, and Matthias Weigelt. “The Role of Different Directions of Attention on the Extent of Implicit Perception in Soccer Penalty Kicking.” Human Movement Science 70 (2020). https://doi.org/10.1016/j.humov.2020.102586.","apa":"Memmert, D., Noël, B., Machlitt, D., van der Kamp, J., & Weigelt, M. The respective liquid crystalline nanodispersions are doped with a dichroic fluorescent dye and their orientational order parameter is studied by means of polarized fluorescence spectroscopy. The presence of the nano-particles is found to slightly reduce the orientational order parameter of the nematic mesophase. Nano-rods with a large length/width ratio tend to preserve the orientational order, while more compact stiff nano-rods and especially nano-sheets reduce the order parameter to a larger extent. In spite of the difference between the sizes of the DNA nano-particles and the rod-like columnar aggregates forming the liquid crystal, a similarity between the shapes of the former and the latter seems to be better compatible with the orientational order of the liquid crystal.","lang":"eng"}],"user_id":"254"},{"article_number":"108506","issue":"12","_id":"37660","intvolume":" 278","year":"2020","citation":{"short":"M.
