Despite the success of the theory at showing\r\nintractability of problems such as computing Brouwer fixed points and Nash\r\nequilibria, subclasses of TFNP remain arguably few and far between. In this\r\nwork, we define two new subclasses of TFNP borne of the study of complex\r\npolynomial systems: Multi-homogeneous Systems (MHS) and Sparse Fundamental\r\nTheorem of Algebra (SFTA). The first of these is based on B\\'ezout's theorem\r\nfrom algebraic geometry, marking the first TFNP subclass based on an algebraic\r\ngeometric principle. At the heart of our study is the computational problem\r\nknown as Quantum SAT (QSAT) with a System of Distinct Representatives (SDR),\r\nfirst studied by [Laumann, L\\\"auchli, Moessner, Scardicchio, and Sondhi 2010].\r\nAmong other results, we show that QSAT with SDR is MHS-complete, thus giving\r\nnot only the first link between quantum complexity theory and TFNP, but also\r\nthe first TFNP problem whose classical variant (SAT with SDR) is easy but whose\r\nquantum variant is hard. We also show how to embed the roots of a sparse,\r\nhigh-degree, univariate polynomial into QSAT with SDR, obtaining that SFTA is\r\ncontained in a zero-error version of MHS. We conjecture this construction also\r\nworks in the low-error setting, which would imply SFTA is contained in MHS."}],"type":"conference","publication":"17th Innovations in Theoretical Computer Science Conference (ITCS 2026)","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"user_id":"71541","external_id":{"arxiv":["2412.19623"]},"_id":"57866"},{"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"The aging behavior of closed-cell polyurethane (PUR) foam, a material widely used in household refrigeration, is studied by examining the variation of cell gas composition and thermal conductivity over time. Aging is primarily driven by gas permeation, wherein the initially present cell gases carbon dioxide and cyclopentane are progressively replaced by nitrogen and oxygen from the ambient, resulting in an increased thermal conductivity and reduced insulation performance. The cell gas composition is measured over 1400 days employing gas chromatography, and the thermal conductivity of the foam is measured over 190 days. Morphological foam characteristics, such as average cell diameter, are determined via scanning electron microscopy and barrier measurements are performed to estimate the effective diffusion coefficient of oxygen. To simulate the aging process, one-dimensional and three-dimensional models are developed for both diffusive mass transfer as well as heat transfer. The present model for the thermal conductivity explicitly accounts for condensation effects, i.e. partial condensation of cyclopentane and carbon dioxide occurring at around 12°C, which significantly influences the insulation behavior of the foam. Sensitivity analyses indicate that an initial cell gas pressure of approximately 0.7 bar yields results that closely coincide with the experimental measurements, where the three-dimensional model demonstrates better accuracy. These measurements and simulations provide valuable insights for evaluating and predicting the long-term degradation of the insulation performance of PUR foams."}],"publication":"Applied Thermal Engineering","keyword":["Polyurethane","Foam","Gas permeation","Diffusion models","Thermal conductivity","Condensation","Gas chromatography","Scanning electron microscopy"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"year":"2026","quality_controlled":"1","title":"Aging of polyurethane foam: Experimental analysis and modeling of cell gas composition and thermal conductivity","publisher":"Elsevier BV","date_created":"2026-01-23T12:48:07Z","status":"public","type":"journal_article","article_type":"original","article_number":"129850","_id":"63720","department":[{"_id":"728"}],"user_id":"7828","intvolume":" 289","citation":{"ieee":"D. The latter method is an integral part of the Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) approach. It is widely used in the literature, e.g., in the field of International Management. Haake and Schneider (2023) give a rigorous description of the connection between the empirical and game theoretic modeling. To justify that the Banzhaf index is an appropriate tool to measure the influence of a condition, this paper discusses a novel axiomatization of the Banzhaf index that uses axioms that are directly linked to the QCA methodology. As a side result, we demonstrate that in our model the Banzhaf index can be reinterpreted as an average of Shapley-Shubik indices.","lang":"eng"}],"department":[{"_id":"205"},{"_id":"475"},{"_id":"185"}],"user_id":"20801","_id":"63731","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["Banzhaf index","axiomatization","QCA","explanatory power"]},{"editor":[{"last_name":"Petersen","full_name":"Petersen, Renate","first_name":"Renate"},{"last_name":"Budde","full_name":"Budde, Mechthild","first_name":"Mechthild"},{"first_name":"Pia","full_name":"Brocke, Pia","last_name":"Brocke"},{"first_name":"Gitta","full_name":"Doebert, Gitta","last_name":"Doebert"},{"full_name":"Rudack, Helga","last_name":"Rudack","first_name":"Helga"}],"status":"public","type":"book_chapter","publication":"Praxishandbuch Mentoring in der Wissenschaft","keyword":["Mentoring","Frauen","Wissenschaft"],"language":[{"iso":"ger"}],"_id":"63752","user_id":"5833","year":"2026","place":"Wiesbaden","citation":{"mla":"Steinhausen, Julia. “„Mind the gap“: Mentoring für Frauen in der Statuspassage Studium – Promotion.” <i>Praxishandbuch Mentoring in der Wissenschaft</i>, edited by Renate Petersen et al., Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden, 2026, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-658-47840-7_22\">10.1007/978-3-658-47840-7_22</a>.","bibtex":"@inbook{Steinhausen_2026, place={Wiesbaden}, title={„Mind the gap“: Mentoring für Frauen in der Statuspassage Studium – Promotion}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-658-47840-7_22\">10.1007/978-3-658-47840-7_22</a>}, booktitle={Praxishandbuch Mentoring in der Wissenschaft}, publisher={Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden}, author={Steinhausen, Julia}, editor={Petersen, Renate and Budde, Mechthild and Brocke, Pia and Doebert, Gitta and Rudack, Helga}, year={2026} }","short":"J. This inverse problem is implemented as a nonlinear regression-type optimization problem, in which the simulation signals are fitted to the measurement signals. These signals consist of displacement responses in waveguides, focusing on hollow cylindrical geometries to enhance the simulation efficiency. To accelerate the optimization and reduce the number of model evaluations and wait times, we propose two novel methods. First, we introduce an adaptation of the Levenberg–Marquardt method derived from a geometrical interpretation of the least-squares optimization problem. Second, we introduce an improved objective function based on the autocorrelated envelopes of the measurement and simulation signals. Given that this study primarily relies on simulation data to quantify optimization convergence, we aggregate the expected ranges of realistic material parameters and derive their distributions to ensure the reproducibility of optimizations with proper measurements. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our objective function modification and step adaptation for various materials with isotropic material symmetry by comparing them with the Broyden–Fletcher–Goldfarb–Shanno method. In all cases, our method reduces the total number of model evaluations, thereby shortening the time to identify the material parameters.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing","title":"A modified Levenberg–Marquardt method for estimating the elastic material parameters of polymer waveguides using residuals between autocorrelated frequency responses","date_created":"2026-01-29T08:53:42Z","year":"2026","project":[{"name":"Vollständige Bestimmung der akustischen Materialparameter von Polymeren","_id":"89"}],"_id":"63800","user_id":"32616","department":[{"_id":"49"}],"status":"public","type":"journal_article","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0888327026000610/pdfft?md5=16e8493b44527f4ab0a6d13f634a01c3&pid=1-s2.0-S0888327026000610-main.pdf","open_access":"1"}],"doi":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ymssp.2026.113904","date_updated":"2026-02-02T12:44:47Z","oa":"1","author":[{"first_name":"Dominik","full_name":"Itner, Dominik","last_name":"Itner"},{"first_name":"Dmitrij","id":"32616","full_name":"Dreiling, Dmitrij","last_name":"Dreiling"},{"last_name":"Gravenkamp","full_name":"Gravenkamp, Hauke","first_name":"Hauke"},{"first_name":"Bernd","id":"213","full_name":"Henning, Bernd","last_name":"Henning"},{"first_name":"Carolin","full_name":"Birk, Carolin","last_name":"Birk"}],"volume":247,"citation":{"chicago":"Itner, Dominik, Dmitrij Dreiling, Hauke Gravenkamp, Bernd Henning, and Carolin Birk. “A Modified Levenberg–Marquardt Method for Estimating the Elastic Material Parameters of Polymer Waveguides Using Residuals between Autocorrelated Frequency Responses.” <i>Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing</i> 247 (2026): 113904. <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ymssp.2026.113904\">https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ymssp.2026.113904</a>.","ieee":"D. In the field of symbolic projection, research is increasingly focusing on implementing light modulation using energy-efficient, incoherent LEDs rather than lasers. Since light modulation in micro- and nano-optics is typically achieved through phase modulation, Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) simulations are employed for analysis. The objective of this article is to investigate different approaches for approximating incoherent monochromatic light sources within FDTD simulations. To this end, two approaches based on dipole sources are considered, as well as a method involving plane waves with modulated wavefronts based on Cosine–Fourier functions and a method based on the superposition of Gaussian beams. Using naturalistic observations of the portfolio work within the seminar, effects and developments were recorded. With partly quantitative, predominantly qualitative content analyses of the portfolios, concrete connections between learning contents were determined. In today’s dynamic environments—shaped by digital transformation,\r\nevolving provider–user interactions, and shifting societal demands—these approaches face limitations in enabling continuous, context-sensitive innovation. Continuous Value Shaping emerges as a conceptual extension to service systems engineering, promoting more adaptive and co-evolutionary forms of service system development. This study examines how Continuous Value Shaping manifests through a multiple case study of three public sector projects. We identify distinct manifestations and constellations of the concept’s principles that complement classical\r\nSSE practices. As the first empirical exploration of Continuous Value Shaping, the study refines its\r\nconceptual foundation and enhances its accessibility for researchers and practitioners. We conclude with seven empirically derived propositions that inform future service systems engineering initiatives and demonstrate how Continuous Value Shaping supports the dynamic alignment of service systems with societal and systemic demands.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Proceedings of the 59th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS 2026)","title":"From Engineering to Shaping: A Multiple Case Study on Advancing Service Systems Engineering through Continuous Value Shaping","publisher":"Association for Information Systems (AIS), IEEE Computer Society Press, University of Hawaii (Manoa)","date_created":"2025-09-16T13:55:52Z","year":"2026","quality_controlled":"1","_id":"61310","project":[{"_id":"1250","name":"SHAPE : Gestaltung von Dienstleistungsentwicklungsprozessen und lnnovationspartnerschaften mit Unternehmen"}],"department":[{"_id":"195"}],"user_id":"74374","status":"public","type":"conference","conference":{"location":"Maui, Maui, Hawaii, USA","end_date":"2026-01-09","start_date":"2026-01-06","name":"59th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS 2026)"},"date_updated":"2026-02-05T06:57:02Z","author":[{"first_name":"Jannika Marie","full_name":"Schäfer, Jannika Marie","id":"74374","last_name":"Schäfer"},{"first_name":"Polina","last_name":"Rajko","full_name":"Rajko, Polina"},{"full_name":"Angelova, Daniela","last_name":"Angelova","first_name":"Daniela"},{"full_name":"Böhmann, Tilo","last_name":"Böhmann","first_name":"Tilo"}],"place":"Maui, Hawaii, USA","citation":{"ama":"Schäfer JM, Rajko P, Angelova D, Böhmann T. However, the results are conflicting. We investigated serum leptin levels in children and adolescents (11 to 18.9 years) with psychiatric disorders (\n n\n                     = 363). Absolute and relative (body-mass-index (BMI)-, sex- and pubertal-stage-adjusted z-scores using reference values of healthy children and adolescents) leptin levels of different patient groups according to diagnosis were compared. The association between leptin levels and depression (Beck Depression Inventory-II) and anxiety (Child Behavior Checklist and Youth Self Report) was examined using regression analysis. Leptin z-scores were higher in patients with psychiatric disorders than in healthy controls (median 1.50,\n p\n                     &lt; .001). While global tests suggested differences in leptin z-scores between patients with different psychiatric disorders, these differences could not be attributed to diagnosis groups in post-hoc pairwise comparisons. Absolute leptin levels differed between psychiatric disorders (\n p\n                     &lt; .001). Patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) had the lowest levels, and patients with mood disorders had higher leptin levels than patients with mental disorders other than mood disorders, anxiety or AN. Neither absolute nor relative leptin levels were related to depressive or anxiety symptoms in regression models adjusted for sex and BMI. Significantly elevated BMI-, sex- and puberty-stage-adjusted leptin levels were observed in children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders compared to a reference sample. Further controlled studies are needed to confirm and explain this finding. No relationship was found between absolute or relative leptin levels and symptoms of depression or anxiety.\n
"}],"status":"public","_id":"63881","user_id":"88682","department":[{"_id":"35"},{"_id":"17"},{"_id":"22"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}]},{"publication":"BMC Nutrition","type":"journal_article","status":"public","_id":"63880","department":[{"_id":"35"},{"_id":"17"},{"_id":"22"}],"user_id":"88682","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2055-0928"]},"publication_status":"published","year":"2026","citation":{"ama":"Knoll-Pientka N, Schils D, Mantwill K, et al.
