While AI offers a high potential for automation and increased efficiency, its implementation often fails due to a lack of interdisciplinary competencies that bridge the gap between domain expertise and IT know-how. Low-code platforms and visual modelling tools are increasingly recognised as enablers, empowering non-programmers to intuitively create graphical AI- based workflows. Nevertheless, specific competencies are required to realise the full potential of AI, the domain specific knowledge and align technical understanding with AI capabilities. The paper reviews the state of the art in AI-driven business process automation and competencies for visual low-code approaches. It then presents a practical solution to identify and systematise essential competence areas. Based on this, a practical competence model is developed to support the design of user-friendly, AI-enabled workflows. This is tested in a practical application context — emergency management — where it supports critical decision-making processes and is validated through expert feedback. The study concludes by offering actionable recommendations to help organisations foster the necessary competencies and methods for competently integrating AI into their digital processes.
"}],"publication":"AHFE International","department":[{"_id":"43"},{"_id":"9"},{"_id":"26"},{"_id":"152"}],"type":"conference","date_created":"2025-11-13T16:37:59Z","intvolume":" 198","date_updated":"2026-10-01T12:25:18Z","publication_status":"published","author":[{"full_name":"Gräßler, Iris","first_name":"Iris","orcid":"0000-0001-5765-971X","last_name":"Gräßler","id":"47565"},{"last_name":"Özcan","first_name":"Deniz","full_name":"Özcan, Deniz","id":"58595"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2771-0718"]},"title":"Graphical AI workflow modelling: Identifying relevant competencies in AI-based automation of business processes","year":"2025","doi":"10.54941/ahfe1006785","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1"}],"quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"mla":"Gräßler, Iris, and Deniz Özcan. “Graphical AI Workflow Modelling: Identifying Relevant Competencies in AI-Based Automation of Business Processes.” <i>AHFE International</i>, vol. 198, AHFE International, 2025, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.54941/ahfe1006785\">10.54941/ahfe1006785</a>.","bibtex":"@inproceedings{Gräßler_Özcan_2025, title={Graphical AI workflow modelling: Identifying relevant competencies in AI-based automation of business processes}, volume={198}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.54941/ahfe1006785\">10.54941/ahfe1006785</a>}, booktitle={AHFE International}, publisher={AHFE International}, author={Gräßler, Iris and Özcan, Deniz}, year={2025} }","ama":"Gräßler I, Özcan D. The development of mechatronic systems is undergoing a similar transformation. Over the past decade, modeling, simulation, and optimization techniques have become integral to the design process, paving the way for the adoption of AI-based methods. In this paper, we examine the potential for integrating AI into the engineering design process, using the V-model from the VDI guideline 2206, considered the state-of-the-art in product design, as a foundation. We identify and classify AI methods based on their suitability for specific stages within the engineering product design workflow. Furthermore, we present a series of application examples where AI-assisted design has been successfully implemented by the authors. These examples, drawn from research projects within the DFG Priority Program \\emph{SPP~2353: Daring More Intelligence - Design Assistants in Mechanics and Dynamics}, showcase a diverse range of applications across mechanics and mechatronics, including areas such as acoustics and robotics."}],"quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"ieee":"K. While a variety of disciplines are developing new approaches to drive service innovation, this is primarily done in isolation and generates only fragmented solutions. Sociological theory has proposed “boundary objects” as an effective umbrella for communication and cooperation among communities. Therefore, we introduce continuous value shaping (CVS) as a boundary object describing service innovation approaches along five principles. We reflect on this concept through the different disciplinary lenses of researchers in service marketing, information systems, service engineering, sociology of work, and innovation management. These perspectives highlight how the CVS principles already connect to discourses within the individual disciplines. However, the CVS concept will not only provide an umbrella to embrace existing activities in different academic disciplines. It also assists to identify research themes that will benefit from uniting the power of these disciplines, and it can serve as an integrating framework to conceptualize complex service innovation approaches. Thus, the CVS concept should guide both researchers and practitioners to develop and implement novel innovation and transformation efforts—in and across organizations.","lang":"eng"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12525-025-00771-1"}],"article_number":"27","doi":"10.1007/s12525-025-00771-1","publication_identifier":{"issn":["1019-6781","1422-8890"]},"author":[{"full_name":"Böhmann, Tilo","last_name":"Böhmann","first_name":"Tilo"},{"full_name":"Roth, Angela","first_name":"Angela","last_name":"Roth"},{"last_name":"Satzger","first_name":"Gerhard","full_name":"Satzger, Gerhard"},{"full_name":"Benz, Carina","first_name":"Carina","last_name":"Benz"},{"full_name":"Beverungen, Daniel","first_name":"Daniel","last_name":"Beverungen"},{"full_name":"Boes, Andreas","first_name":"Andreas","last_name":"Boes"},{"first_name":"Christoph","last_name":"Breidbach","full_name":"Breidbach, Christoph"},{"full_name":"Gersch, Martin","last_name":"Gersch","first_name":"Martin"},{"full_name":"Gudergan, Gerhard","first_name":"Gerhard","last_name":"Gudergan"},{"last_name":"Hogreve","first_name":"Jens","full_name":"Hogreve, Jens"},{"first_name":"Christian","last_name":"Kurtz","full_name":"Kurtz, Christian"},{"full_name":"Langes, Barbara","first_name":"Barbara","last_name":"Langes"},{"last_name":"Leimeister","first_name":"Jan Marco","full_name":"Leimeister, Jan Marco"},{"full_name":"Lewandowski, Tom","last_name":"Lewandowski","first_name":"Tom"},{"full_name":"Meiren, Thomas","first_name":"Thomas","last_name":"Meiren"},{"full_name":"Nägele, Rainer","last_name":"Nägele","first_name":"Rainer"},{"last_name":"Paluch","first_name":"Stefanie","full_name":"Paluch, Stefanie"},{"full_name":"Peters, Christoph","first_name":"Christoph","last_name":"Peters"},{"last_name":"Poeppelbuss","first_name":"Jens","full_name":"Poeppelbuss, Jens"},{"last_name":"Robra-Bissantz","first_name":"Susanne","full_name":"Robra-Bissantz, Susanne"},{"full_name":"Schultz, Carsten","first_name":"Carsten","last_name":"Schultz"},{"full_name":"Schumann, Jan H.","last_name":"Schumann","first_name":"Jan H."},{"first_name":"Jochen","last_name":"Wirtz","full_name":"Wirtz, Jochen"},{"full_name":"Wünderlich, Nancy V.","first_name":"Nancy V.","last_name":"Wünderlich"}],"title":"Continuous value shaping: A boundary concept for innovating service innovation approaches","year":"2025","intvolume":" 35","article_type":"original","date_updated":"2026-10-08T10:56:12Z","publication_status":"published","external_id":{"unknown":["https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12525-025-00771-1"]},"oa":"1","citation":{"apa":"Böhmann, T., Roth, A., Satzger, G., Benz, C., Beverungen, D., Boes, A., Breidbach, C., Gersch, M., Gudergan, G., Hogreve, J., Kurtz, C., Langes, B., Leimeister, J. In each tick interrupt, a set of tasks that are waiting to release new jobs, namely, the waiting set, is inspected to determine the jobs that should be released at this tick. Such a waiting set is sorted whenever a job has finished, by which the release process can be efficiently achieved. However, the overhead of sorting can vary vastly depending on the task set, which has to be taken into account in the worst-case timing analysis. Moreover, the tick interrupt in common practices is backed by a single hardware timer that is configured to trigger interrupts, either with a fixed period or reconfigured to the next release time (so-called one-shot timer). Since not necessarily at every interrupt a job will be released, several tick interrupts might be redundant. For the one-shot timers, the reconfiguration during runtime also incurs overheads at a variable interval. To reduce such variability and amount of overhead, in this work, we propose\r\n LazyTick\r\n which partitions the task set and distributes the subsets over multiple timers. Specifically, we propose two job release procedures with constant operations overhead—one for harmonic task sets and one for non-harmonic task sets. We implemented the support for multiple hardware timers in FreeRTOS and conducted intensive experimental evaluations. The evaluation shows that\r\n LazyTick\r\n can reduce the variability in overhead by up to ≈ 5 × in peak and ≈ 3× on average in comparison to the default implementation. While its adoption in embedded systems—especially hard real-time systems—faces challenges due to stringent timing constraints, integrating shielding mechanisms may offer a pathway for RL to optimize its scheduling decisions, preserving worst-case timing guarantees. This position paper shows a use case where RL selects compliant execution versions for fault-tolerant real-time systems while minimizing the system utilization in runtime. Furthermore, we discuss possible directions for further exploring RL’s role in real-time systems for improved adaptability.
"}],"issue":"2","publication":"Real-Time Systems","type":"journal_article","date_created":"2026-07-03T21:07:18Z","date_updated":"2026-10-12T20:21:24Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 61","year":"2025","title":"Shielded reinforcement learning for fault-tolerant scheduling in real-time systems","author":[{"first_name":"Junjie","last_name":"Shi","full_name":"Shi, Junjie"},{"id":"128464","full_name":"Chen, Kuan-Hsun","orcid":"0000-0002-7110-921X","last_name":"Chen","first_name":"Kuan-Hsun"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["0922-6443","1573-1383"]},"doi":"10.1007/s11241-025-09441-z","language":[{"iso":"eng"}]},{"_id":"66148","publisher":"Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"page":"1-2","volume":9,"user_id":"128464","doi":"10.1145/3712019","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2378-962X","2378-9638"]},"author":[{"id":"128464","full_name":"Chen, Kuan-Hsun","orcid":"0000-0002-7110-921X","last_name":"Chen","first_name":"Kuan-Hsun"},{"full_name":"Li, Jing","last_name":"Li","first_name":"Jing"},{"full_name":"Reghenzani, Federico","first_name":"Federico","last_name":"Reghenzani"},{"full_name":"Chen, Jian-Jia","first_name":"Jian-Jia","last_name":"Chen"}],"year":"2025","status":"public","title":"Introduction to the Special Issue on Fault-Resilient Cyber-Physical Systems—Part 2","intvolume":" 9","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2026-10-12T20:19:10Z","date_created":"2026-07-03T21:07:37Z","type":"journal_article","citation":{"short":"K.-H. In this note, we aim to apply it to a vast range of examples of polynomials providing a unifying source for limiting empirical zero distributions. We cover Touchard, Fubini, Eulerian, Narayana and little q-Laguerre polynomials as well as hypergeometric polynomials including the classical Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials. We construct polynomials whose empirical zero distributions converge to the free multiplicative normal and Poisson distributions. Furthermore, we study polynomials generated by some differential operators. As one inverse result, we derive coefficient asymptotics of the characteristic polynomial of random covariance matrices.","lang":"eng"}],"citation":{"bibtex":"@article{Jalowy_Kabluchko_Marynych_2025, title={Zeros and exponential profiles of polynomials II: Examples}, author={Jalowy, Jonas and Kabluchko, Zakhar and Marynych, Alexander}, year={2025} }","ama":"Jalowy J, Kabluchko Z, Marynych A. Research on neural and neurosymbolic CQA methods is still an emerging field. Almost all of these methods can be regarded as black-box models, which may raise concerns about user trust. Although neurosymbolic approaches like CQD are slightly more interpretable, allowing intermediate results to be tracked, the importance of different parts of the query remains unexplained. In this paper, we propose CQD-SHAP, a novel framework that computes the contribution of each query part to the ranking of a specific answer. This contribution explains the value of leveraging a neural predictor that can infer new knowledge from an incomplete KG, rather than a symbolic approach relying solely on existing facts in the KG. CQD-SHAP is formulated based on Shapley values from cooperative game theory and satisfies all fundamental Shapley axioms. Automated evaluation of these explanations in terms of necessary and sufficient explanations, and comparisons with various baselines, show the consistent effectiveness of this approach across all studied datasets and query types.","lang":"eng"}]},{"user_id":"96670","volume":102,"page":"26-44","_id":"63580","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"date_updated":"2026-06-29T07:41:47Z","intvolume":" 102","status":"public","title":"Abschreibungen als Mittel der Investitionsförderung in Deutschland - Möglichkeiten, Grenzen und Perspektiven evidenzbasierter Analysen","year":"2025","author":[{"first_name":"Daniel","last_name":"Dyck","full_name":"Dyck, Daniel","id":"83379"},{"full_name":"Hechtner, Frank","last_name":"Hechtner","first_name":"Frank"},{"full_name":"Maiterth, Ralf","first_name":"Ralf","last_name":"Maiterth"},{"full_name":"Sureth-Sloane, Caren","orcid":" 0000-0002-8183-5901","first_name":"Caren","last_name":"Sureth-Sloane","id":"530"}],"type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"187"}],"date_created":"2026-01-13T08:48:23Z","quality_controlled":"1","issue":"Sonderheft NeSt","publication":"Steuer und Wirtschaft","citation":{"short":"D. Assuming a conjecture of Kantor our list of examples becomes a classification for chamber-regular C̃₂-lattices on locally-finite C̃₂-buildings. The links of special vertices in the buildings we construct, are all isomorphic to (the incidence graph of) the unique generalized quadrangle Q of order (3,5). In particular our constructions involve chamber-regular actions on Q. These actions on Q are the first (and if Kantor's conjecture holds the only) chamber-regular actions on a finite generalized quadrangle and therefore interesting in their own right. Moreover Q is not Moufang and therefore none of our examples is a Bruhat-Tits building and all our lattices are exotic building lattices."}],"external_id":{"arxiv":["2511.08312"]},"date_created":"2025-11-19T15:09:51Z","type":"preprint","department":[{"_id":"10"}]}]
