In her main work, Nueva Filosofía de la Naturaleza del Hombre, she explores the interaction between body and soul, emphasizing the crucial role of emotions and digestion in human health. Sabuco identifies three “pillars of health”: optimism, happiness, and digestive harmony. She argues that these factors promote harmony between the soul and body, which in turn enhances brain and bodily functions. Poor digestion or negative emotions, on the other hand, can disrupt the connection between the brain and body, leading to illness. A central concept in Sabuco’s theory is chilo, a nourishing fluid produced through digestion that sustains the brain. She highlights the importance of balanced nutrition, avoiding overeating, and selecting appropriate foods. Sabuco provides detailed dietary recommendations, including simple and nutritious meals, as well as practices for cleansing the body, such as induced vomiting and fasting. Her approach integrates anatomical knowledge, medical principles, and psychological influences to address and prevent illness. Sabuco advocates for personal responsibility and self-care, embedding her philosophy within a humanistic framework.","lang":"eng"}],"_id":"67590","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1007/978-3-032-17766-7_4","user_id":"91668","author":[{"id":"91668","first_name":"Jil","orcid":"0000-0002-4394-7531","last_name":"Muller","full_name":"Muller, Jil"}],"year":"2026","title":" Food and Remedies in Oliva Sabuco’s New Philosophy of Human Nature","status":"public","date_updated":"2026-10-19T14:21:54Z"},{"date_created":"2026-10-19T14:19:03Z","department":[{"_id":"519"},{"_id":"856"}],"type":"book_editor","citation":{"ieee":"J. Women have played integral roles in the history of medicine, often serving as healers, caretakers, midwives and guardians of traditional knowledge surrounding food, plants, remedies, and healing practices. However, women’s writings are often overlooked or marginalized in mainstream narratives because they did not write in the scientific language of Latin, and because their writings were not in the conventional form of a published book. The work, therefore, considers a diverse range of women, from Hildegard von Bingen and Oliva Sabuco to Maria Deraismes in the 19th century, midwives in Germany and numerous other women in European households. It demonstrates the significant influence of female knowledge and practices in the field of medicine, remedies, chemistry and healing practices. The chapters predominantly reflect on plants, food and practical remedies used and tested by women. Those engaged in research or teaching on the history of philosophy and medicine will find this collection invaluable, as it offers insights into a domain that has been relatively unexplored and lacks a substantial corpus of documented evidence.","lang":"eng"}],"_id":"67589","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"editor":[{"full_name":"Muller, Jil","orcid":"0000-0002-4394-7531","first_name":"Jil","last_name":"Muller","id":"91668"}],"doi":"10.1007/978-3-032-17766-7","user_id":"91668","year":"2026","status":"public","title":"Food, Plants, Remedies and Healing Practices: Women’s Ideas in the History of Medicine","date_updated":"2026-10-19T14:19:19Z"},{"_id":"67587","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"user_id":"44026","author":[{"id":"44026","full_name":"Friesen, Olga","first_name":"Olga","orcid":"0009-0007-5598-9484","last_name":"Friesen"},{"id":"73952","last_name":"Hölscher","first_name":"Jonas","full_name":"Hölscher, Jonas"},{"full_name":"Siegmund, Michael B. It can also be used to document research activities and processes in collaboration with researchers who have limited knowledge of process modelling. However, processes documented in BPMN cannot be directly transferred into a semantic representation (e.g., as triples).\r\n\r\nSeveral approaches to developing a BPMN ontology exist, but they are no longer actively maintained. Metadata4Ing (M4I) is an actively maintained ontology for describing research processes, with a focus on engineering.\r\n\r\nIn this poster, we present our approach to mapping processes modelled in BPMN to Metadata4Ing and discuss potential challenges involved in implementing this mapping.\r\n\r\nOur approach draws on foundational concepts from the literature on ontology matching and ontology evaluation and comprises four steps: “process model analysis”, “semantic mapping”, “conceptual derivation of the ontological structure”, and “assessment of transferability”. Transferability is assessed using the criteria of “mappability”, “granularity”, and “extensibility”.\r\n\r\nWe apply the approach to a concrete example from the enableATO project, which focuses on automated maintenance management in the railway sector. The overall process of the subproject was iteratively documented in BPMN through interviews with the six project team members. The process is then transferred to M4I using the mapping developed. This translates the BPMN process steps into a semantic notation and makes it possible to associate the resulting research data with those steps."},{"text":"Die Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) ist ein etablierter Standard zum Beschreiben von Geschäftsprozessen und Abläufen. Realizing CIMD, however, requires a redesign of the memory controller and careful mapping of operands onto the memory arrays. Presently, accurate FPGA-based testbeds exist but they are costly and labor-intensive, while open-source simulators are largely trace-based and cannot execute full application runs. The only full-application CIMD simulator available, included with MIMDRAM [1], is built on an outdated version of gem5 and its toolchains. We present gem5-CIMD, a full-system CIMD simulation framework built on the latest gem5 simulation framework. We extend the simulated instruction set from four bitwise operations to sixteen CIM instructions spanning arithmetic, relational, conditional, and utility operations across a range of data types and bitwidths (4 to 64 bits) . A complete memory-management stack – comprising multi-level huge-page support, a CIM-aware allocator, and a subarray-aware address-mapping scheme – ensures that CIM operands are co-located in the same DRAM subarray. In addition, gem5-CIMD is aware of the DRAM refresh interval and faithfully models and schedules the mandatory refresh operations when needed. We provide a CIM standard library intended as a compiler target and evaluate gem5-CIMD on multiple case studies including an end-to-end KNN workload. The simulator sources, including the evaluated workloads, are available at https://github.com/tud-ccc/gem5-CIMD.","lang":"eng"}]},{"user_id":"131313","series_title":"CASES ’26 Companion","_id":"67466","date_updated":"2026-10-21T09:14:56Z","title":"A Cross-Stack Approach to Efficient and Scalable Generative AI (Special Session Paper)","status":"public","year":"2026","author":[{"full_name":"Wang, Weitian","last_name":"Wang","first_name":"Weitian"},{"first_name":"Dhingra","last_name":"Pratyush","full_name":"Pratyush, Dhingra"},{"last_name":"Khan","first_name":"Asif Ali","full_name":"Khan, Asif Ali"},{"full_name":"Ghosh, Arkapravo","last_name":"Ghosh","first_name":"Arkapravo"},{"full_name":"Pande, Partha Pratim","last_name":"Pande","first_name":"Partha Pratim"},{"full_name":"Castrillon, Jeronimo","first_name":"Jeronimo","last_name":"Castrillon"},{"first_name":"Priyadarshini","last_name":"Panda","full_name":"Panda, Priyadarshini"},{"full_name":"Parra, Cecilia De La","last_name":"Parra","first_name":"Cecilia De La"},{"full_name":"Rai, Shubham","last_name":"Rai","first_name":"Shubham"}],"type":"conference","date_created":"2026-10-09T08:46:07Z","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"This paper presents a holistic, cross-stack vision for efficient and scalable generative AI, motivated by the view that efficiency is most readily improved when hardware, compiler, and algorithmic techniques are pursued together rather than in isolation. The present study examined learning‐associated changes in brain complexity during the execution of a sequential arm movement following augmented‐feedback‐based practice. Thirty‐eight healthy young adults practiced a sequential arm movement with augmented feedback across five sessions. Cortical activity was recorded with electroencephalography during the first and last practice sessions. Multiscale entropy was used to quantify brain complexity across 50 time scales. Behavioral measures indicated improved movement accuracy and reduced dual‐task costs across practice. At the cortical level, a significant global decrease in entropy was observed from the first to the last practice session. Further analyses revealed that the differences were confined to coarse temporal window and midline frontal electrodes Fz and FCz. In addition, changes in coarse‐scale entropy at FCz were negatively correlated with reductions in absolute error. Together, the present findings suggest that augmented‐feedback‐based practice is accompanied by a refinement of cortical complexity during movement execution, particularly in large‐scale frontal dynamics. Multiscale entropy may therefore provide a sensitive framework for capturing learning‐related neural adaptations that complement conventional electroencephalographic measures and advance the understanding of motor learning at the systems level.
"}],"issue":"8","publication":"European Journal of Neuroscience","type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"172"}],"date_created":"2026-10-22T13:26:24Z","date_updated":"2026-10-22T13:28:33Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 64","year":"2026","title":"Reduced Brain Complexity During the Execution of a Sequential Arm Movement Following an Augmented‐Feedback‐Based Practice: A Multiscale Entropy Analysis","publication_identifier":{"issn":["0953-816X","1460-9568"]},"author":[{"id":"76790","orcid":"000-0002-3358-4669","last_name":"Piskin","first_name":"Daghan Yüksel","full_name":"Piskin, Daghan Yüksel"},{"id":"77456","last_name":"Margraf","first_name":"Linda","orcid":"0000-0001-5972-612X","full_name":"Margraf, Linda"},{"id":"36388","full_name":"Weigelt, Matthias","first_name":"Matthias","last_name":"Weigelt"},{"last_name":"Baumeister","first_name":"Jochen","orcid":"0000-0003-2683-5826","full_name":"Baumeister, Jochen","id":"46"}],"doi":"10.1111/ejn.70729","article_number":"e70729","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"citation":{"chicago":"Piskin, Daghan Yüksel, Linda Margraf, Matthias Weigelt, and Jochen Baumeister. “Reduced Brain Complexity During the Execution of a Sequential Arm Movement Following an Augmented‐Feedback‐Based Practice: A Multiscale Entropy Analysis.” European Journal of Neuroscience 64, no. 8 (2026). https://doi.org/10.1111/ejn.70729.","short":"D.Y. Because of this intermediary role, it provides a basis for comparing performance in different tasks. In this work, we study whether model-based estimates of visual attention resources – concretely, processing speed derived from a formal theory of visual attention – are comparable across tasks. To our best knowledge, such a comparison on the process level has not been conducted yet. Thirty participants completed two tasks in a within-subject design. For each task, attention resources are estimated using the same theoretical framework, allowing a direct task-to-task comparison. The results show that model-based estimates of attentional processing speed differ between tasks. At the same time, the estimates show different patterns of variability, which suggests that systematic adaptations of one or both models could, in principle, align the parameters across tasks. These findings indicate that current model estimates are task-dependent, but not necessarily incompatible. Identifying adaptation points would move the study of attention beyond task-specific phenomenology toward a more general characterization of attentional mechanisms. Although this paper does not provide a solution to this problem, it formulates the challenge and outlines concrete directions for future research."}],"date_created":"2026-10-22T13:35:43Z","department":[{"_id":"424"}],"type":"journal_article","author":[{"id":"55908","full_name":"Biermeier, Kai","last_name":"Biermeier","orcid":"0000-0002-2879-2359","first_name":"Kai"},{"id":"451","orcid":"0000-0003-2364-9489","last_name":"Scharlau","first_name":"Ingrid","full_name":"Scharlau, Ingrid"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2045-2322"]},"year":"2026","title":"Comparing attention estimates across two tasks through formalization","intvolume":" 16","date_updated":"2026-10-22T13:42:05Z","publication_status":"published","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-026-71598-9"}],"article_number":"29499","doi":"10.1038/s41598-026-71598-9","citation":{"apa":"Biermeier, K., & Scharlau, I.
