Pulsed laser radiation is used to thermoacoustically excite broadband ultrasonic waves in a multi-layered sample, consisting of a metal plate adhesively joined to a polymeric layer using synthetic resin. The resulting signals are received by a purpose-built piezoelectric transducer. Varying the distance between excitation and detection yields spatio-temporal measurement data, from which the dispersive properties of the propagating waves can be inferred using a two-dimensional Fourier transform, assuming the plates to act as coupled waveguides. Coupled multi-layered waveguides show an effect referred to as mode repulsion, where the distance between certain modes in the frequency-wavenumber domain is assumed to be a measure of coupling strength. Measurements at different stages of curing of the adhesive layer are performed and evaluated. A comparison of the results shows changes in the dispersive properties, namely an increased modal bandwidth for the fully cured sample as well as an increased modal distance. The significance of the guarantee of the protecting powers, which was without precedent, is considered by James as well as the competitive situation on the bond market, the relationship of the Rothschilds with leading politicians of the time, and the special significance of Greece in the period of intensive European philhellenism. In this work, we present a dual amplitude holographic scheme based on the photon sieve principle, which is then combined with a phase hologram by utilizing the Pancharatnam–Berry phase. We demonstrate that two types of apertures, rectangular and square shapes in a gold film filled with silicon nanoantennas are sufficient to create two amplitude holograms at two different wavelengths in the visible, multiplexed with an additional phase-only hologram. The nanoantennas are tailored to adjust the spectral transmittance of the apertures, enabling the wavelength sensitivity. The phase-only hologram is implemented by utilizing the anisotropic rectangular structure. Interestingly, such three holograms have quantitative mathematical correlations with each other. Thus, the flexibility of polarization and wavelength channels can be utilized with custom-tailored features to achieve such amplitude and phase holography simultaneously without sacrificing any space-bandwidth product. The present scheme has the potential to store different pieces of information which can be displayed separately by switching the wavelength or the polarization state of the reading light beam. Due to real-time constraints, the major challenge in MPC is to solve model-based optimal control problems in a very short amount of time. For linear-quadratic problems, Bemporad et al. have proposed an explicit formulation where the underlying optimization problems are solved a priori in an offline phase. In this article, we present an extension of this concept in two significant ways. We consider nonlinear problems and - more importantly - problems with multiple conflicting objective functions. In the offline phase, we build a library of Pareto optimal solutions from which we then obtain a valid compromise solution in the online phase according to a decision maker's preference. Since the standard multi-parametric programming approach is no longer valid in this situation, we instead use interpolation between different entries of the library. To reduce the number of problems that have to be solved in the offline phase, we exploit symmetries in the dynamical system and the corresponding multiobjective optimal control problem. The results are verified using two different examples from autonomous driving. Reliable Obstacle avoidance is an integral part of autonomous navigation. This involves real time interpretation and processing of a complex environment. Strict time and energy constraints of a mobile autonomous system make efficient computation extremely desirable. The benefits of employing Hardware/Software co-designed applications are obvious and significant. Hardware accelerators are used for efficient processing of the algorithms by exploiting parallelism. FPGAs are a class of hardware accelerators, which can contain hundreds of small execution units, and can be used for Hardware/Software co-designed application. However, there is a reluctance when it comes to adoption of these devices in well established application domains, such as Robotics, due to a steep learning curve needed for FPGA application design. ReconROS has successfully bridged the gap between robotic and FPGA application development, by providing an intuitive, common development platform for robotic application development for FPGA. It does so by integrating Robotics Operating System(ROS) which is an industry and academia standard for robotics application development, with ReconOS, an operating system for re-configurable hardware. In this thesis an obstacle avoidance system is designed and implemented for an autonomous vehicle using ReconROS. The objectives of the thesis is to demonstrate and explore ReconROS integration within the ROS ecosystem and explore the design process within ReconROS framework, and to demonstrate the effectiveness of Hardware Acceleration in Robotics, by analysing the resulting architectures for Latency and Power Consumption. In this paper we present ReconROS, a framework that integrates the widely-used robot operating system (ROS) with ReconOS, which features multithreaded programming of hardware and software threads for reconfigurable computers. This unique combination gives ROS2 developers the flexibility to transparently accelerate parts of their robotics applications in hardware. It also investigates what knowledge farmers require on digitalised farms and how they acquire it. Dairy farming was used as domain of investigation since it, unlike other industries, has strongly been affected by digitalisation throughout the last years.Method: Exploratory interviews with 10 livestock farmers working on digitalised dairy farms were analysed using qualitative content analysis. A deductive and inductive coding strategy was used. Findings: Farming work has changed from more manual tasks towards symbol manipulation and data processing. Farmers must be able to use computers and other digital devices to retrieve and analyse sensor data that allow them to monitor and control the processes on their farm. For this new kind of work, farmers require elaborated mental models that link traditional farming knowledge with knowledge about digital systems, including a strong understanding of production processes underlying their farm. Learning is mostly based on instructions offered by manufacturers of the new technology as well as informal and non-formal learning modes. Even younger farmers report that digital technology was not sufficiently covered in their (vocational) degrees. In general, farmers emphasises the positive effects of digitalisation both on their working as well as private life. Conclusions: Farmers should be aware of the opportunities as well as the potential drawbacks of the digitalisation of work processes in agriculture. Providers of agricultural education (like vocational schools or training institutes) need to incorporate the knowledge and skills required to work in digitalised environments (e.g., data literacy) in their syllabi. Further studies are required to assess how digitalisation changes farming practices and what knowledge as well as skills linked to these developments are required in the future. Yet, empirical and theoretical models often do not sufficiently differentiate between these two kinds of learning activities. The main goal in the present study is to test whether the two discrete learning activities are indeed facilitated in different ways and by different antecedents. The results of a multi-wave diary study with a sample of 229 German employees show that engagement in workplace learning is not influenced by conscious beliefs connected to learning, which play a central role in most theoretical models explaining participation in designated learning opportunities, underlining the need for an autonomous theory of workplace learning. Recently, the field of computational argumentation witnessed extensive effort to address the automatic generation of arguments. However, existing approaches do not perform any audience-specific adaptation. In this work, we aim to bridge this gap by studying the task of belief-based claim generation: Given a controversial topic and a set of beliefs, generate an argumentative claim tailored to the beliefs. To tackle this task, we model the people's prior beliefs through their stances on controversial topics and extend state-of-the-art text generation models to generate claims conditioned on the beliefs. Our automatic evaluation confirms the ability of our approach to adapt claims to a set of given beliefs. In a manual study, we additionally evaluate the generated claims in terms of informativeness and their likelihood to be uttered by someone with a respective belief. Our results reveal the limitations of modeling users' beliefs based on their stances, but demonstrate the potential of encoding beliefs into argumentative texts, laying the ground for future exploration of audience reach. We show that if the geodesic billiard system is hyperbolic on its trapped set and the latter is compact and non-grazing the techniques for open hyperbolic systems developed by Dyatlov and Guillarmou can be applied to a smooth model for the discontinuous flow defined by the non-grazing billiard trajectories. This allows us to obtain a meromorphic resolvent for the generator of the billiard flow. As an application we prove a meromorphic continuation of weighted zeta functions together with explicit residue formulae. In particular, our results apply to scattering by convex obstacles in the Euclidean plane. In particular, we show that they are isomorphically mapped by natural pushforwards into generalized common eigenspaces of the algebra of invariant differential operators $D(G,\sigma )$ on compatible associated vector bundles $\mathbf W_{\sigma }$ over $\mathcal M$. As a consequence of this description, we obtain an exact band structure of the Pollicott–Ruelle spectrum. Further, under some mild assumptions on the representations $\tau$ and $\sigma$ defining the bundles $\mathbf V_{\tau }$ and $\mathbf W_{\sigma }$, we obtain a very explicit description of the generalized common eigenspaces. This allows us to relate classical Pollicott–Ruelle resonances to quantum eigenvalues of a Laplacian in a suitable Hilbert space of sections of $\mathbf W_{\sigma }$. Our methods of proof are based on representation theory and Lie theory. It is widely applied in clinical assessment of attention and fundamental attention research. However, most TVA-based research is based on accuracy data from letter report experiments performed in controlled laboratory environments. While such basic approaches to questions regarding attentional selection are undoubtedly useful, recent technological advances have enabled the use of increasingly sophisticated experimental paradigms involving more realistic scenarios. Notably, these studies have in many cases resulted in different estimates of capacity limits than those found in studies using traditional TVA-based assessment. Here we review recent developments in TVA-based assessment of attention that goes beyond the use of letter report experiments and experiments performed in controlled laboratory environments. We show that TVA can be used with other tasks and new stimuli, that TVA-based parameter estimation can be embedded into complex scenarios, such as games that can be used to investigate particular problems regarding visual attention, and how TVA-based simulations of “visual foraging” can elucidate attentional control in more naturalistic tasks. We also discuss how these developments may inform future advances of TVA. However, process specific challenges harm its further currency for industrial applications, for instance the high geometrical deviations. Different process factors influence the manufacturing accuracy and lead to large dimensional, form and positional deviations. Published research relative to deviations is difficult to compare, because it is based on several specimens that were manufactured with different processes, materials and machine settings. This fact emphasizes that reliable tolerance values for AM are hard to define in standards. Within this investigation, a universally applicable method was developed to examine geometrical deviations for AM processes. The main aim is the derivation of achievable tolerance values considering important influencing factors. Furthermore, due to the locally varying surface roughness of additively manufactured parts several tactile measurements were compared.
