AB - This preprint makes the claim of having computed the $9^{th}$ Dedekind
Number. This was done by building an efficient FPGA Accelerator for the core
operation of the process, and parallelizing it on the Noctua 2 Supercluster at
Paderborn University. The resulting value is
286386577668298411128469151667598498812366. This value can be verified in two
steps. We have made the data file containing the 490M results available, each
of which can be verified separately on CPU, and the whole file sums to our
proposed value.

AB - In the Bogoliubov-Fr\"ohlich model, we prove that an impurity immersed in a
Bose-Einstein condensate forms a stable quasi-particle when the total momentum
is less than its mass times the speed of sound. The system thus exhibits
superfluid behavior, as this quasi-particle does not experience friction. We do
not assume any infrared or ultraviolet regularization of the model, which
contains massless excitations and point-like interactions.

AB - AbstractCold‐box sand (CBS) belongs to the granular materials and consists of sand and a binder. The behavior of CBS is simulated with a micropolar model, whereby the additional degree of freedom of the model describes the rotation of the sand grains. The model is used to generate a shear band under pressure for three different meshes, where the force‐displacement curves of the three meshes converge so that no mesh dependence occurs. Another requirement of the model is the consideration of asymmetric behavior for compression and tension. Due to the additional degree of freedom the implicit implementation of the micropolar continuum is very time‐consuming. Therefore, an explicit implementation is considered as an alternative possibility. This paper compares the advantages and disadvantages of both methods and the results for both calculations.

AB - I study the effect of heterogeneous beliefs about asset prices on the long-term behavior of financial markets. Starting from the ideas of Abreu and Brunnermeier (Citation2003), a two-dimensional system of differential equations is developed. The first dynamic variable is the asset price growth rate. The second dynamic variable is the number of investors who believe that asset prices are abnormally high. In a phase plane analysis, I find both stable and unstable equilibria, depending on the spread of information and the response to other agents’ beliefs. If individuals try to increase their returns while perceiving more overpricing, these equilibria can be spirals or even approach limit cycles. Although I intend to study general price patterns, abnormally high asset prices can be caused by financial bubbles. In this model, bubbles can emerge and deflate both in cycles or directly, or they can grow until they burst. Further, I analyze market behavior after a central bank increases the interest rate. This can lead to new stable equilibria, but the emergence and bursting of bubbles cannot be prevented.

AB - We present strong enhancement of third harmonic generation in an amorphous silicon metasurface consisting of elliptical nano resonators. We show that this enhancement originates from a new type of multi-mode Fano mechanism. These ‘Super-Fano’ resonances are investigated numerically in great detail using full-wave simulations. The theoretically predicted behavior of the metasurface is experimentally verified by linear and nonlinear transmission spectroscopy. Moreover, quantitative nonlinear measurements are performed, in which an absolute conversion efficiency as high as ηmax ≈ 2.8 × 10−7 a peak power intensity of 1.2 GW cm−2 is found. Compared to an unpatterned silicon film of the same thickness amplification factors of up to ~900 are demonstrated. Our results pave the way to exploiting a strong Fano-type multi-mode coupling in metasurfaces for high THG in potential applications.

AB - Sparsity is a highly desired feature in deep neural networks (DNNs) since it ensures numerical efficiency, improves the interpretability of models (due to the smaller number of relevant features), and robustness. In machine learning approaches based on linear models, it is well known that there exists a connecting path between the sparsest solution in terms of the $\ell^1$ norm,i.e., zero weights and the non-regularized solution, which is called the regularization path. Very recently, there was a first attempt to extend the concept of regularization paths to DNNs by means of treating the empirical loss and sparsity ($\ell^1$ norm) as two conflicting criteria and solving the resulting multiobjective optimization problem. However, due to the non-smoothness of the $\ell^1$ norm and the high number of parameters, this approach is not very efficient from a computational perspective. To overcome this limitation, we present an algorithm that allows for the approximation of the entire Pareto front for the above-mentioned objectives in a very efficient manner. We present numerical examples using both deterministic and stochastic gradients. We furthermore demonstrate that knowledge of the regularization path allows for a well-generalizing network parametrization.

AB - The algorithmic imaginary as a theoretical concept has received increasing attention in recent years as it aims at users’ appropriation of algorithmic processes operating in opacity. But the concept originally only starts from the users’ point of view, while the processes on the platforms’ side are largely left out. In contrast, this paper argues that what is true for users is also valid for algorithmic processes and the designers behind. On the one hand, the algorithm imagines users’ future behavior via machine learning, which is supposed to predict all their future actions. On the other hand, the designers anticipate different actions that could potentially performed by users with every new implementation of features such as social media feeds. In order to bring into view this permanently reciprocal interplay coupled to the imaginary, in which not only the users are involved, I will argue for a more comprehensive and theoretically precise algorithmic imaginary referring to the theory of Cornelius Castoriadis. In such a perspective, an important contribution can be formulated for a theory of social media platforms that goes beyond praxeocentrism or structural determinism.

AB - Abstract
Sandwich packings represent new separation column internals, with a potential to intensify mass transfer. They comprise two conventional structured packings with different specific geometrical surface areas. In this work, the complex fluid dynamics in sandwich packings is modeled using a novel approach based on a one-dimensional, steady momentum balance of the liquid and gas phases. The interactions between the three present phases (gas, liquid, and solid) are considered by closures incorporated into the momentum balance. The formulation of these closures is derived from two fluid-dynamic analogies for the film and froth flow patterns. The adjustable parameters in the closures are regressed for the film flow using dry pressure drop measurements and liquid hold-up data in trickle flow conditions. For the froth flow, the tuning parameters are fitted to overall pressure drop measurements and local liquid hold-up data acquired from ultra-fast X-ray tomography (UFXCT). The model predicts liquid hold-up and pressure drop data with an average relative deviation of 16.4 % and 19 %, respectively. Compared to previous fluid dynamic models for sandwich packings, the number of adjustable parameters could be reduced while maintaining comparable accuracy.

AB - In spray-flame synthesis of nanoparticles, a precise understanding of the reaction processes is necessary to find optimal process parameters for the formation of the desired products. Coupling the chemistries of flame, solvent, and gas-phase species initially formed from the particle precursor in combination with the complex flow geometry of the spray flame means a special challenge for the modeling of the reaction processes. A new burner has been developed that is capable to observe the reaction of precursor solutions frequently used in spray-flame synthesis. The burner provides an almost flat, laminar, and steady flame with homogeneous addition of a fine aerosol and thus enables detailed investigation and modeling of the coupled reactions inde-pendent of spray formation and turbulent mixing. With its two separate supply channel matrices, the burner also enables the use of reactants that would otherwise react with each other already before reaching the flame. These features enable the investigation of a wide range of flame-based synthesis methods for nanoparticles and, due to the flat-flame geometry, kinetics models for these processes can be developed and validated. This work describes the matrix burner development and its gas flow optimization by simulation. Droplet-size dis-tributions generated by ultrasonic nebulization and their interaction with the burner structure are investigated by phase-Doppler anemometry. As an example for nanoparticle-for ming flames from solutions, iron-oxide nanoparticle-generating flames using iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate dissolved in 1-butanol were investigated. This effort includes measurements of two-dimensional maps of the flame temperature by a thermocouple and height-dependent concentration profiles of the main species by time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Exper-imental data are compared with 1D simulations using a reduced reaction mechanism. The results show that the new burner is well suited for the development of reaction models for precursors supplied in the liquid phase usually applied in spray-flame synthesis configurations.& COPY; 2022 The Combustion Institute. AB - We present a novel method for high-order phase reduction in networks of
weakly coupled oscillators and, more generally, perturbations of reducible
normally hyperbolic (quasi-)periodic tori. Our method works by computing an
asymptotic expansion for an embedding of the perturbed invariant torus, as well
as for the reduced phase dynamics in local coordinates. Both can be determined
to arbitrary degrees of accuracy, and we show that the phase dynamics may
directly be obtained in normal form. We apply the method to predict remote
synchronisation in a chain of coupled Stuart-Landau oscillators.

AB - Organizations employ process mining to discover, check, or enhance process models based on data from information systems to improve business processes. Even though process mining is increasingly relevant in academia and organizations, achieving process mining excellence and generating business value through its application is elusive. Maturity models can help to manage interdisciplinary teams in their efforts to plan, implement, and manage process mining in organizations. However, while numerous maturity models on business process management (BPM) are available, recent calls for process mining maturity models indicate a gap in the current knowledge base. We systematically design and develop a comprehensive process mining maturity model that consists of five factors comprising 23 elements, which organizations need to develop to apply process mining sustainably and successfully. We contribute to the knowledge base by the exaptation of existing BPM maturity models, and validate our model through its application to a real-world scenario.

AB - Classic automated algorithm selection (AS) for (combinatorial) optimization problems heavily relies on so-called instance features, i.e., numerical characteristics of the problem at hand ideally extracted with computationally low-demanding routines. For the traveling salesperson problem (TSP) a plethora of features have been suggested. Most of these features are, if at all, only normalized imprecisely raising the issue of feature values being strongly affected by the instance size. Such artifacts may have detrimental effects on algorithm selection models. We propose a normalization for two feature groups which stood out in multiple AS studies on the TSP: (a) features based on a minimum spanning tree (MST) and (b) nearest neighbor relationships of the input instance. To this end we theoretically derive minimum and maximum values for properties of MSTs and k-nearest neighbor graphs (NNG) of Euclidean graphs. We analyze the differences in feature space between normalized versions of these features and their unnormalized counterparts. Our empirical investigations on various TSP benchmark sets point out that the feature scaling succeeds in eliminating the effect of the instance size. A proof-of-concept AS-study shows promising results: models trained with normalized features tend to outperform those trained with the respective vanilla features.

AB - We present a fully integrated radio frequency identifications transponder chip operating at 5.8 GHz, which is compatible with the class-1 generation-2 of the Electronic Product Code protocol (EPC-C1 G2). The tag chip including the analog front-end and the digital baseband processor, are designed in the sub-threshold regime (0.5 V) with a total supply current of less than 50 μA. As a power scavenging unit, a single-stage differential-drive rectifier structure is designed and fabricated with standard threshold voltage (SVT) MOS elements in a commercial 65-nm CMOS process, to provide 0.8 V of rectified voltage. Measurements performed on the fabricated single-stage structure show a maximum power conversion efficiency of 69.6% for a 22 kΩ load and a sensitivity of -12.5 dBm, which corresponds to more than 1 m of reading range. The power conversion efficiency at this range is about 64%.

AB - The aim of the present study is to prove the construct validity of the German versions of the Feeling Scale (FS) and the Felt Arousal Scale (FAS) for a progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) exercise. A total of 228 sport science students conducted the PMR exercise for 45 min and completed the FS, the FAS, and the Self-Assessment Manikin (SAM) in a pre-test–post-test design. A significant decrease in arousal (t(227) = 8.296, p < 0.001) and a significant increase in pleasure (t(227) = 4.748, p < 0.001) were observed. For convergent validity, the correlations between the FS and the subscale SAM-P for the valence dimension (r = 0.67, p < 0.001) and between the FAS and the subscale SAM-A for the arousal dimension (r = 0.31, p < 0.001) were significant. For discriminant validity, the correlations between different constructs (FS and SAM-A, FAS and SAM-P) were not significant, whereas the discriminant analysis between the FS and the FAS revealed a negative significant correlation (r = −0.15, p < 0.001). Together, the pattern of results confirms the use of the German versions of the FS and the FAS to measure the affective response for a PMR exercise.

AB - Given a geometrically finite hyperbolic surface of infinite volume it is a
classical result of Patterson that the positive Laplace-Beltrami operator has
no $L^2$-eigenvalues $\geq 1/4$. In this article we prove a generalization of
this result for the joint $L^2$-eigenvalues of the algebra of commuting
differential operators on Riemannian locally symmetric spaces $\Gamma\backslash
G/K$ of higher rank. We derive dynamical assumptions on the $\Gamma$-action on
the geodesic and the Satake compactifications which imply the absence of the
corresponding principal eigenvalues. A large class of examples fulfilling these
assumptions are the non-compact quotients by Anosov subgroups.

AB - The prediction of photon echoes is an important technique for gaining an understanding of optical quantum systems. However, this requires a large number of simulations with varying parameters and/or input pulses, which renders numerical studies expensive. This article investigates how we can use data-driven surrogate models based on the Koopman operator to accelerate this process. In order to be successful, we require a model that is accurate over a large number of time steps. To this end, we employ a bilinear Koopman model using extended dynamic mode decomposition and simulate the optical Bloch equations for an ensemble of inhomogeneously broadened two-level systems. Such systems are well suited to describe the excitation of excitonic resonances in semiconductor nanostructures, for example, ensembles of semiconductor quantum dots. We perform a detailed study on the required number of system simulations such that the resulting data-driven Koopman model is sufficiently accurate for a wide range of parameter settings. We analyze the L2 error and the relative error of the photon echo peak and investigate how the control positions relate to the stabilization. After proper training, the dynamics of the quantum ensemble can be predicted accurately and numerically very efficiently by our methods.

AB - AbstractCurrently, the fused deposition modeling (FDM) process is the most common additive manufacturing technology. The principle of the FDM process is the strand wise deposition of molten thermoplastic polymers, by feeding a filament trough a heated nozzle. Due to the strand and layer wise deposition the cooling of the manufactured component is not uniform. This leads to dimensional deviations which may cause the component to be unusable for the desired application. In this paper, a method is described which is based on the shrinkage compensation through the adaption of every single raster line in components manufactured with the FDM process. The shrinkage compensation is based on a model resulting from a DOE which considers the main influencing factors on the shrinkage behavior of raster lines in the FDM process. An in‐house developed software analyzes the component and locally applies the shrinkage compensation with consideration of the boundary conditions, e.g., the position of the raster line in the component and the process parameters. Following, a validation using a simple geometry is conducted to show the effect of the presented adaptive scaling method.

AB - In XAI it is important to consider that, in contrast to explanations for professional audiences, one cannot assume common expertise when explaining for laypeople. But such explanations between humans vary greatly, making it difficult to research commonalities across explanations. We used the dual nature theory, a techno-philosophical approach, to cope with these challenges. According to it, one can explain, for example, an XAI's decision by addressing its dual nature: by focusing on the Architecture (e.g., the logic of its algorithms) or the Relevance (e.g., the severity of a decision, the implications of a recommendation). We investigated 20 game explanations using the theory as an analytical framework. We elaborate how we used the theory to quickly structure and compare explanations of technological artifacts. We supplemented results from analyzing the explanation contents with results from a video recall to explore how explainers justified their explanation. We found that explainers were focusing on the physical aspects of the game first (Architecture) and only later on aspects of the Relevance. Reasoning in the video recalls indicated that EX regarded the focus on the Architecture as important for structuring the explanation initially by explaining the basic components before focusing on more complex, intangible aspects. Shifting between addressing the two sides was justified by explanation goals, emerging misunderstandings, and the knowledge needs of the explainee. We discovered several commonalities that inspire future research questions which, if further generalizable, provide first ideas for the construction of synthetic explanations.

AB - The effect of plaque deposition (atherosclerosis) on blood flow behaviour is investigated via computational fluid dynamics and structural mechanics simulations. To mitigate the narrowing of coronary artery atherosclerosis (stenosis), the computational modelling of auxetic and non-auxetic stents was performed in this study to minimise or even avoid these deposition agents in the future. Computational modelling was performed in unrestricted (open) conditions and restricted (in an artery) conditions. Finally, stent designs were produced by additive manufacturing, and mechanical testing of the stents was undertaken. Auxetic stent 1 and auxetic stent 2 exhibit very little foreshortening and radial recoil in unrestricted deployment conditions compared to non-auxetic stent 3. However, stent 2 shows structural instability (strut failure) during unrestricted deployment conditions. For the restricted deployment condition, stent 1 shows a higher radial recoil compared to stent 3. In the tensile test simulations, short elongation for stent 1 due to strut failure is demonstrated, whereas no structural instability is noticed for stent 2 and stent 3 until 0.5 (mm/mm) strain. The as-built samples show a significant thickening of the struts of the stents resulting in short elongations during tensile testing compared to the simulations (stent 2 and stent 3). A modelling framework for the stent deployment system that enables the selection of appropriate stent designs before in vivo testing is required. This leads to the acceleration of the development process and a reduction in time, resulting in less material wastage. The modelling framework shall be useful for doctors designing patient-specific stents.

AB - The influence of nanoscale surface topography on protein adsorption is highly important for numerous applications in medicine and technology. Herein, ferritin adsorption at flat and nanofaceted, single-crystalline Al2O3 surfaces is investigated using atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The nanofaceted surfaces are generated by the thermal annealing of Al2O3 wafers at temperatures above 1000 °C, which leads to the formation of faceted saw-tooth-like surface topographies with periodicities of about 160 nm and amplitudes of about 15 nm. Ferritin adsorption at these nanofaceted surfaces is notably suppressed compared to the flat surface at a concentration of 10 mg/mL, which is attributed to lower adsorption affinities of the newly formed facets. Consequently, adsorption is restricted mostly to the pattern grooves, where the proteins can maximize their contact area with the surface. However, this effect depends on the protein concentration, with an inverse trend being observed at 30 mg/mL. Furthermore, different ferritin adsorption behavior is observed at topographically similar nanofacet patterns fabricated at different annealing temperatures and attributed to different step and kink densities. These results demonstrate that while protein adsorption at solid surfaces can be notably affected by nanofacet patterns, fine-tuning protein adsorption in this way requires the precise control of facet properties.

AB - State-of-the-art LLC resonant converters use MOSFETs in their inverter stage, which allows high switching frequencies and thus the use of compact magnetic components. The large parasitic output capacitance and the poor reverse-recovery behaviour of the inherent body diode of high-voltage (600 V) silicon MOSFETs require soft switching, i.e. zero-voltage switching (ZVS). Otherwise, the high turn-on switching losses would lead to excessive heating and ultimately to the destruction of the switch. Therefore, MOSFET-based LLC converters are operated in the so-called inductive region only, which enables ZVS. The use of robust and cost-effective IGBTs instead of MOSFETs is particularly advantageous for automotive applications, since in addition to high reliability low costs are an important objective here. Since IGBTs are characterized by dominant turn-off losses and generally higher switching losses compared to MOSFETs, the aim is to operate them with zero-current switching (ZCS) and at low switching frequencies below the resonance frequency. In this region also the voltage transfer characteristic is steeper, which qualifies for applications with a strongly varying input-to-output voltage ratio, such as given for automotive on-board DC-DC converters connecting the (high-voltage) traction battery with the (12 V) auxiliary battery. In this paper, a stress value analysis based on a switched-model simulation is used to design a ZCS LLC converter and take advantage of the mentioned benefits of IGBTs as well as of the steeper voltage transfer characteristic. Within this operation region below the resonance frequency, however, a new phenomenon of several current pulses occurring during a single switching period through the rectifier components may appear. Generally, in applications with high output currents a synchronous rectifier (SR) is often used to keep the conduction losses of the rectifier stage at a moderate level: Low-voltage MOSFETs, which actively need to be gated synchronously to the polarity of the current pulses, are employed then instead of more lossy rectifier diodes. However, standard SR driver ICs have been shown to be unable to properly rectify the multi-pulse output currents of the proposed LLC operation, resulting in high conduction losses of the rectifier stage. A cost-effective hardware concept is presented which ensures proper rectification by using standard SR-ICs that are actively overdriven by the converter’s central microcontroller. A 2 kW prototype for an EV on-board DC-DC converter was built to show the effectiveness of the method, documenting an increase in efficiency by up to 4.1 % compared to a purely SR-IC-based solution. Overall efficiency is very similar to that of a conventional (MOSFET-based) LLC converter so that the ZCS-operated LLC IGBT-converter represents a cost-effective alternative, which even shows 10 % less worst-case losses.

AB - The importance of fiber-reinforced plastics for lightweight construction applications is steadily increasing due to their outstanding weight-specific property values. However, a decisive disadvantage of these composite materials has so far been the high material and process costs, which is why fiber-reinforced plastics are almost exclusively used in small to medium-sized series. Optimization of manufacturing methods is of great importance to reduce the production cost. In this study, two concepts are proposed that can optimize vacuum assisted light resin transfer molding (VA-LRTM) further, leading to a possibility of fully automatic process. Conventional VA-LRTM methods are used to produce complex fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) and hybrid components. Traditional molds used to produce components via VA-LRTM are sealed using polymer materials to prevent the leakage of matrix system. The seals undergo tremendous amounts of thermal, chemical, and mechanical loadings. Thus, sealings must be replaced in short intervals. In the current study, a concept where sealing is achieved by accelerating the curing of matrix system itself with the help of heating elements and catalysts resulting in a self-sealing approach is proposed. Another concern is mold surface contamination during component production. To address this, a modified automatic cleaning technique based on ultrasonic cleaning was proposed which can be integrated into the production line with minimum modification. Both the proposed concepts were validated and optimized using experiments, simulations, and analytical approaches by producing metal-FRP hybrid shafts.

AB - This research aimed to understand the role of after-school sports programs in social inclusion processes in culturally diverse contexts through a multicase study within two locations. The first location was in Spain where immigrant and Spanish students were enrolled, and the other was in Chile with Mapuche-Huilliche students, immigrant and Chilean students. The implemented programs at both sites were similar in their educational focus on socio-educational values, and teaching models (hybridization of teaching games for understanding and cooperative learning) that enhance social inclusion. Using individual and group interviews with teachers, sports coordinators, parents, and students, a qualitative approach was used to identify the factors that facilitate or hinder the social inclusion processes. In addition, the researchers used qualitative observations of the programs over six months using “notes logbook” to record their impressions during the observation process. Results indicated that the implemented sports programs successfully facilitated social inclusion processes, enabling the development of interpersonal skills and relationships between students from different cultural backgrounds. The previous training and experiences of teachers in culturally diverse contexts, and incorporation of traditional sporting games from all cultures, seems to be an important facilitator factor for the inclusion potential of the implemented programs.

AB - Mathematical models and computer simulations play a crucial role in the context of the COVID-19 crisis for knowledge about the possible course of the pandemic and for appropriate policy decisions. The paper presents results from an ethnographic study of a government-funded R & D project dealing with agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) in the context of pandemic management. Based on the assumption that the use of computer simulations in pandemic management is not only a means to an end for political or epidemiological goals but also plays a significant role in determining which goals and strategies appear politically legitimate, the paper reconstructs how insights into the pandemic are generated in ABMS and specifically in the researched project and made accessible for decision-making.

AB - Many researchers and practitioners see artificial intelligence as a game changer compared to classical statistical models. However, some software providers engage in “AI washing”, relabeling solutions that use simple statistical models as AI systems. By contrast, research on algorithm aversion unsystematically varied the labels for advisors and treated labels such as "artificial intelligence" and "statistical model" synonymously. This study investigates the effect of individual labels on users' actual advice utilization behavior. Through two incentivized online within-subjects experiments on regression tasks, we find that labeling human advisors with labels that suggest higher expertise leads to an increase in advice-taking, even though the content of the advice remains the same. In contrast, our results do not suggest such an expert effect for advice-taking from algorithms, despite differences in self-reported perception. These findings challenge the effectiveness of framing intelligent systems as AI-based systems and have important implications for both research and practice.

AB - Ancestral reconstruction is a classic task in comparative genomics. Here, we study the genome median problem, a related computational problem which, given a set of three or more genomes, asks to find a new genome that minimizes the sum of pairwise distances between it and the given genomes. The distance stands for the amount of evolution observed at the genome level, for which we determine the minimum number of rearrangement operations necessary to transform one genome into the other. For almost all rearrangement operations the median problem is NP-hard, with the exception of the breakpoint median that can be constructed efficiently for multichromosomal circular and mixed genomes. In this work, we study the median problem under a restricted rearrangement measure called c4-distance, which is closely related to the breakpoint and the DCJ distance. We identify tight bounds and decomposers of the c4-median and develop algorithms for its construction, one exact ILP-based and three combinatorial heuristics. Subsequently, we perform experiments on simulated data sets. Our results suggest that the c4-distance is useful for the study the genome median problem, from theoretical and practical perspectives.

AB - Abstract
Purpose
Our aim was to assess alignment in timing of ‘highest caloric intake’ with individual chronotype and its association with body composition in adolescents.
Methods
We used repeatedly collected data from n = 196 adolescents (age 9–16 years, providing N = 401 yearly questionnaires) of the DONALD open cohort study. Chronotype was assessed by the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire from which midpoint of sleep (MSFsc) was derived. A sex- and age-specific diet-chrono-alignment score (DCAS) was calculated as the difference in hours between the chronotype-specific median timing of highest caloric intake of the studied population and the individual timing of ‘highest caloric intake’ or vice versa. Repeated-measures regression models were applied to study cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between the DCAS and body composition, e.g., Fat Mass Index (FMI) or Fat Free Mass Index (FFMI).
Results
DCAS ranged from −6:42 h to + 8:01 h and was not associated with body composition. Among adolescents with a later chronotype (N = 201) a 1 h increase in DCAS (later consumption of ‘highest caloric intake’ in comparison to the median intake of that group), increased FFMI by 1.92 kg/m2 (95% CI: 0.15, 3.69, p value = 0.04) over a median follow-up of 0.94 year.
Conclusion
Alignment of energy intake with individual chronotype appears beneficial for FFMI among those with a late chronotype.

AB - Quantum photonic processing via electro-optic components typically requires electronic links across different operation environments, especially when interfacing cryogenic components such as superconducting single photon detectors with room-temperature control and readout electronics. However, readout and driving electronics can introduce detrimental parasitic effects. Here we show an all-optical control and readout of a superconducting nanowire single photon detector (SNSPD), completely electrically decoupled from room temperature electronics. We provide the operation power for the superconducting detector via a cryogenic photodiode, and readout single photon detection signals via a cryogenic electro-optic modulator in the same cryostat. This method opens the possibility for control and readout of superconducting circuits, and feedforward for photonic quantum computing.
