text: 'The devastating consequences of environmental degradation are increasingly
evident, necessitating both adaptation and mitigation strategies. This study investigates
perceived individual responsibility, drawing upon Hans Jonas’ "The Imperative
of Responsibility" as a theoretical framework. Our aim is to explore the relationship
between five independent variables (perceived climate change threat, trust in
technological progress, religiosity, responsibility for contemporaries impacted
by natural disasters, and environmental concern) and the dependent variable of
perceived environmental responsibility towards future generations. Findings reveal
that approximately 77 percent of respondents in Germany are willing to sacrifice
current standards of living to protect the environment for future generations.
Notably, perceiving climate change as a threat, assuming responsibility for present-day
impacts and environmental stewardship emerge as significant predictors of environmental
responsibility towards future generations. Being religious also correlates with
heightened environmental responsibility compared to non-religious individuals.
Trust in technological progress only weakly correlates with intergenerational
environmental responsibility, surprisingly suggesting a positive relationship.
These findings provide valuable insights into determinants of perceived individual
responsibility. In order to arrive at a more complete analysis, however, future
research needs to complement this study of perceived individual-level responsibility
with considerations on collective actors and structural factors. '

konusunda farkindalik yaratir. Makale iki arastirma geleneginin (irkçilik ve önyargi
arastirmalari) farkli paradigmalarini göstermekte, fakat ayni zamanda bireysel

text: The experience of loneliness is common among international students who study
in a foreign country, away from their home. Loneliness refers to the difference
between the actual and desired social relationships highlighting not only the
quantity but also the quality of relationships. We argue for a perspective on
loneliness that emphasizes its social context rather than relying mainly on individualistic
or psychological interpretations prevalent thus far. In this article, we explore
network predictors of loneliness among Chinese international students in Germany.
Through our analysis of a unique data set, we show that when compared to the local
students, international students tend to feel lonelier. Surprisingly, when we
discover that when international students have the same network size, those with
more emotionally supportive ties tend to experience more loneliness compared to
those with fewer emotionally supportive ties. Not surprisingly, having a romantic
partner is associated with lower levels of loneliness, especially when they also
live in the country of education. Additionally, we find that international Chinese
students who struggle to form cross‐national friendships report higher levels
of loneliness. By delving into these findings, our research offers a sociological
account of loneliness among international Chinese and local students in Germany.

    Echtzeit-Strompreisen, wobei (P3) zusätzlich CO2-Emissionen als Zielgröße integriert;

text: 'This dissertation explores optimization methods for sustainable energy system
design, with a particular focus on the electricity sector in the context of the
energy transition. Building on Operations Research methodologies, it addresses
planning and control challenges in electricity distribution networks and energy-aware
production scheduling. The work comprises five contributions: (P1) develops a
linear multi-commodity flow model for cost-optimal expansion of large-scale distribution
networks under resilience scenarios and analyzes the relationship between model
parameters and computation times; (P2) and (P3) address multi-objective flexible
job shop scheduling under real-time electricity pricing, with (P3) further incorporating
CO2 emissions as an explicit optimization objective; (P4) extends this scenario
to include simultaneous energy procurement decisions from the grid, on-site renewable
sources, and energy storage systems under uncertainty, using a rolling horizon
approach; (P5) compares different classes of many-objective evolutionary algorithms
(dominance-, indicator-, and decomposition-based) in terms of convergence, diversity,
and completeness of the Pareto front. The proposed models and algorithms—including
memetic variants of NSGA-II, NSGA-III, θ-DEA, and HypE—are evaluated through extensive
computational experiments. The findings provide practical recommendations for
distribution network operators, manufacturing companies, and policymakers, contributing
to the development of efficient, reliable, and low-emission energy systems for
    the future.'

  text:
ABSTRACT:
As modern technical systems grow
in complexity, ensuring the quality of these systems during early development
phases becomes more challenging. This is particularly evident in the development
of modern passenger vehicles, where non-functional requirements (NFRs) play a
critical role in ensuring that a vehicle operates according to specified standards
and expectations, especially across different vehicle configurations and environmental
conditions. The introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in automotive engineering
has transformed the approach to vehicle system design and development. This paper
presents a pipeline for analyzing and generating NFRs for vehicle systems using
generative AI-based methods. The pipeline categorizes NFRs, explores their interdependencies
with vehicle configurations and environmental conditions, and addresses the completeness
of NFRs in relation to specific vehicle use cases. The paper focuses on selecting
appropriate NFR types for various use cases, taking into account diverse configurations
and environmental factors. Examples of NFRs with varying parameters are provided
for an electric vehicle under development at a leading car manufacturer, illustrating
the benefit as well as the challenges of applying generative AI to automotive
    engineering.

  text: '
ABSTRACT:
Model-based Systems Engineering
(MBSE) supports managing complex engineering projects. A pivotal element of MBSE
is the concept of views which provide tailored representations of a system model
to address stakeholder concerns. Despite standards describing the use and generation
of views, the adoption and practical implementation of MBSE views and viewpoints
in industrial practice remain insufficiently explored. Interviews with German
practitioners reveal a disconnect between theory and practice: views and viewpoints
and the involvement in MBSE are often limited to technical experts, excluding
non-technical stakeholders. High complexity, abstract representations, and tool-related
barriers impede broader engagement. The findings suggest stakeholder-specific,

chain disruptions and economic pressures, poses significant challenges for companies.
Existing methodologies often fall short due to their domain-specific focus, inconsistent
terminology and lack of integration. To address these challenges, this paper presents
a taxonomy for integrative product and production system development. The taxonomy
systematically structures key elements, dependencies and processes to improve
collaboration, decision-making and communication within organisations. Developed
iteratively the taxonomy identifies ten core artefacts. It enables organisations
to better plan improvements, synchronise development processes, and select appropriate
    methods and tools.

  text:
ABSTRACT:
The increasing complexity and connectivity
of the mobility system and modern automotive systems, particularly connected autonomous
vehicles, demand a paradigm shift toward resilience-by-design to address disruptions

in automotive, resilience engineering has yet to be systematically integrated
into development processes. This paper defines resilience using a standard-based
definition method, emphasizing disruption tolerance, adaptability, and recoverability.
We identify action fields to advance the topic and propose a resilience-by-design

  text:
ABSTRACT:
Cyber-physical production systems
(CPPS) are responsible for a significant portion of manufacturers’ carbon emissions.
Since 80% of product-related environmental impacts are determined at the design
stage, there is a need for CPPS manufacturers to focus on decarbonization at the
design stage. To date, there is a lack of design-for-decarbonization guidance
for CPPS. This paper proposes a procedural framework for the effective selection
of decarbonization measures for the design of CPPS. A Decarbonization Wheel is
developed to establish a product-specific decarbonization strategy. This tool
is linked to a catalogue of decarbonization measures. A measure prioritization
logic provides a structure for systematizing selected measures. The framework
is validated in the case of an intelligent industrial control valve.

  text:
Laterally coupled vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs)
can exhibit additional resonances at high modulation frequencies that can substantially
increase the laser’s modulation bandwidth. State-of-the-art laterally coupled
devices require non-standard manufacturing technology and precise tuning of the
currents supplied to each cavity separately to form optical supermodes suitable
for such resonances. Here, we report on a novel switching phenomenon in laterally
coupled VCSEL structures having only a single common electric contact and manufactured
in a standard oxide-confined VCSEL geometry. At lower currents, they can be operated
in a weakly coupled (WCR) regime and, at higher currents, in an injection-locked
(IL) regime, enabling fundamentally different spectral and dynamic features. In
the WCR, both optical supermodes lase and a narrow tunable plasma-assisted peak
at their beating frequency is observed for each of the apertures, with a current-dependent
frequency tuning and anti-phase intensity oscillations in each of the cavities.
In contrast, in the IL regimes, only one (anti-symmetric) supermode lases. This
adds a broader resonance to the modulation response while the intensity oscillations
in both cavities are in-phase. Only the IL regime can result in increased modulation
bandwidth of the system. Measurements of the pulse responses and continuous modulation
up to 70 GHz for both operational regimes are presented and compared with simulations
of our distributed rate equation model whose parameters are extracted from full-wave
electromagnetic simulations of the device, including the temperature distribution
in the device. Excellent agreement is found and enables comprehensive understanding
of the dynamics of supermodes in oxide-confined coupled cavity VCSELs.

Excellent agreement is found and enables comprehensive understanding
of the dynamics of supermodes in oxide-confined coupled cavity VCSELs.

text: 'Censors have long censored Transport Layer Security (TLS) traffic by inspecting
the domain name in the unencrypted Server Name Indication (SNI) extension. By
encrypting the SNI extension, the Encrypted ClientHello (ECH) prevents censors
from blocking TLS traffic to certain domains. Despite this promising outlook,
ECH’s current capability to contest TLS censorship is unclear; for instance, Russia
has started censoring ECH connections successfully. This paper clarifies ECH’s
current role for TLS censorship. To this end, we evaluate servers’ support for
ECH and its analysis and subsequent blocking by censors. We determine Cloudflare
as the only major provider supporting ECH. Additionally, we affirm previously
known ECH censorship in Russia and uncover indirect censorship of ECH through
encrypted DNS censorship in China and Iran. Our findings suggest that ECH’s contribution
to censorship circumvention is currently limited: we consider ECH’s dependence
on encrypted DNS especially challenging for ECH’s capability to circumvent censorship.
We stress the importance of censorship-resistant ECH to solve the long-known problem
    of SNI-based TLS censorship.'
