text: Manufacturing tolerances have a measurable influence on the structural integrity
of self-piercing riveted (SPR) joints in automotive applications, yet their quantitative
impact on load-bearing behavior remains insufficiently resolved. This study establishes
a validated hierarchical methodology to predict tolerance-dependent failure behavior
of SPR joints, progressing from coupon to sub-component scale through an integrated
experimental–numerical approach. Five critical manufacturing tolerances, including
rivet length (±0.5 mm), rivet head position (±0.3 mm), orthogonality deviation
(2.8° and 5°), lateral offset (up to 1.2 mm), and flange overlap reduction (up
to 7.5 mm), were investigated. Steel–steel joints exhibited a higher sensitivity
to tolerances by a factor of 2–3 compared to steel–aluminum joints. A unified
effective rivet length concept was developed to consolidate the geometric effects
of all tolerances into a single physically meaningful parameter, enabling load-bearing
capacity prediction with R2 > 0.95 across all evaluated loading directions. The
sub-component validation employing T-joint specimens indicates a 2–3 fold amplification
of tolerance effects at critical structural regions, providing experimental evidence
for the hierarchical scaling principle. The methodology was implemented in a tolerance-dependent
CONSTRAINED_SPR3 formulation, providing >99 % computational efficiency improvement
while maintaining a deviation in maximum force prediction within ±7 %. This framework
enables the physically consistent representation of manufacturing variation within
large-scale simulations and establishes a transferable basis for tolerance-resilient
    virtual vehicle development.

text: Room-temperature lasing is a key milestone in the development of miniaturized
optoelectronic and photonic devices. We present a simple approach to synthesize
phase-pure quasi-2D layered tin perovskite nanowires with varying quantum well
thicknesses (n = 1 to 4). By incorporating a new organic spacer capable of forming
a hydrogen-bonded organic framework, this method promoted anisotropic crystal
growth and enhanced lattice rigidity. Furthermore, introducing molecular intercalants
enabled controlled crystallization into well-defined nanowires that function as
Fabry–Pérot cavities. Cavities made from n = 2 to 4 perovskites support efficient
and robust near-infrared, room-temperature optically pumped lasing with the threshold
as low as 75.8 μJ/cm2, cavity quality factor over 3000, and negligible degradation
over 106 pulses. A cleaved coupled nanolaser was fabricated as a proof-of-concept
    device for photonic applications.

text: We discretise a recently proposed new Lagrangian approach to optimal control
problems with dynamics described by force-controlled Euler-Lagrange equations
(Konopik et al., in Nonlinearity 38:11, 2025). The resulting discretisations are
in the form of discrete Lagrangians. We show that the discrete necessary conditions
for optimality obtained provide variational integrators for the continuous problem,
akin to Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions for standard direct approaches. This
approach paves the way for the use of variational error analysis to derive the
order of convergence of the resulting numerical schemes for both state and costate
variables and to apply discrete Noether’s theorem to compute conserved quantities,
distinguishing itself from existing geometric approaches. We show for a family
of low-order discretisations that the resulting numerical schemes are ‘doubly-symplectic’,
meaning they yield forced symplectic integrators for the underlying controlled
mechanical system and overall symplectic integrators in the state-adjoint space.
Multi-body dynamics examples are solved numerically using the new approach. In
addition, the new approach is compared to standard direct approaches in terms
of computational performance and error convergence. The results highlight the
advantages of the new approach, namely, better performance and convergence behaviour
of state and costate variables consistent with variational error analysis and
automatic preservation of certain first integrals.

    \
Age-related changes in brain signal complexity are
associated with cognitive decline and reduced neural adaptivity in older adults.
Exergaming offers a promising prophylactic intervention combining physical and
cognitive training. The aim of the present study was to assess how exergaming
alters the temporal trajectory of brain signal complexity at rest and during gameplay
    in older adults.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
    \
Methods
\r\n
Twenty-eight
healthy older adults participated in a 4-week exergaming intervention. Electroencephalography
was recorded using 64 electrodes at rest (pre- and post-intervention) and during
exergaming (pre-, mid-, and post-intervention). Brain signal complexity was quantified
using multiscale entropy across 64 time scales on preprocessed signals.
\r\n
    \
\r\n
\r\n
Results
\r\n
    \
Post-intervention resting-state analysis revealed
significant reductions at fine and increases at coarse scales in frontal, central,
and posterior entropy. During gameplay, entropy declined widespread by mid-intervention,
particularly at coarse scales over frontal, central and temporal regions. From
mid- to post-intervention, the decline narrowed leaving a net pre-to-post reduction
concentrated at coarse scales in these regions.
\r\n
\r\n
    \
\r\n
Discussion
\r\n
    \
Resting-state changes indicated a shift toward a younger
brain profile, characterized by a transition from age-related increases in local
processing to enhanced distributed processing, which may potentially mitigate
the rise in neural modularity associated with aging. During gameplay, brain signal
complexity decreased in week 2, followed by a modest change by week 4, consistent
with the framework in which complexity initially streamlines and then adjusts
toward a task-specific optimum. These findings suggest that exergaming can beneficially
modulate brain complexity in older adults, offering the potential to reduce age-related
neural decline and support healthy brain aging.
\r\n
"

  text: "
ABSTRACT
\r\n
This study
shows the applicability of ultrasonic sensors for measuring two‐phase layer heights
in sieve tray columns under dynamic operating conditions. Although these sensors
are known for their precision in stationary systems, their reliability under fluctuating
flow conditions has remained unclear. To validate their accuracy, ultrasonic measurements
were compared with both automated image analysis via a Python algorithm and manual
video evaluation. Results show that ultrasonic sensors maintain high precision
at moderate gas loads and with small hole diameters. Increased gas loads and turbulence,
however, reduced measurement accuracy due to signal scattering. The findings highlight
the potential of ultrasonic sensing for real‐time, noninvasive monitoring in dynamic
    multiphase systems.
"

extension atomization is a promising process for spraying various materials with
the potential to produce narrow droplet size distributions. This study systematically
investigates the behavior of different fluids and suspensions in the process in
order to determine its application limits and identify optimal process parameters.
Particular attention was paid to the rheological properties, droplet size distributions,
and circularity of the particles produced. The results show that the rotational
speed of the rollers and the fluid loading are significant influencing parameters
    for the resulting particle properties.
"
