  text: "
\r\n Releasing jobs and performing scheduling decisions
in real-time operating systems (RTOSes) is often realized within tick interrupts.
In each tick interrupt, a set of tasks that are waiting to release new jobs, namely,
the waiting set, is inspected to determine the jobs that should be released at
this tick. Such a waiting set is sorted whenever a job has finished, by which
the release process can be efficiently achieved. However, the overhead of sorting
can vary vastly depending on the task set, which has to be taken into account
in the worst-case timing analysis. Moreover, the tick interrupt in common practices
is backed by a single hardware timer that is configured to trigger interrupts,
either with a fixed period or reconfigured to the next release time (so-called
one-shot timer). Since not necessarily at every interrupt a job will be released,
several tick interrupts might be redundant. For the one-shot timers, the reconfiguration
during runtime also incurs overheads at a variable interval. To reduce such variability
and amount of overhead, in this work, we propose\r\n LazyTick\r\n
\ which partitions the task set and distributes the subsets over multiple
timers. Specifically, we propose two job release procedures with constant operations
overhead—one for harmonic task sets and one for non-harmonic task sets. We implemented
the support for multiple hardware timers in FreeRTOS and conducted intensive experimental
evaluations. The evaluation shows that\r\n LazyTick\r\n
\ can reduce the variability in overhead by up to ≈ 5 × in peak and
≈ 3× on average in comparison to the default implementation. Additionally, the
combined overhead of the job release process is reduced by up to ≈ 6.1 × in peak
    and ≈ 3.6× on average.\r\n
"

(RL) has emerged as a promising tool for decision-making in various applications,
particularly in uncertain environments. While its adoption in embedded systems—especially
hard real-time systems—faces challenges due to stringent timing constraints, integrating
shielding mechanisms may offer a pathway for RL to optimize its scheduling decisions,
preserving worst-case timing guarantees. This position paper shows a use case
where RL selects compliant execution versions for fault-tolerant real-time systems
while minimizing the system utilization in runtime. Furthermore, we discuss possible
directions for further exploring RL’s role in real-time systems for improved adaptability.
"

text: In [Jalowy, Kabluchko, Marynych, arXiv:2504.11593v1, 2025], the authors discuss
a user-friendly approach to determine the limiting empirical zero distribution
of a sequence of real-rooted polynomials, as the degree goes to ∞. In this note,
we aim to apply it to a vast range of examples of polynomials providing a unifying
source for limiting empirical zero distributions. We cover Touchard, Fubini, Eulerian,
Narayana and little q-Laguerre polynomials as well as hypergeometric polynomials
including the classical Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials. We construct
polynomials whose empirical zero distributions converge to the free multiplicative
normal and Poisson distributions. Furthermore, we study polynomials generated
by some differential operators. As one inverse result, we derive coefficient asymptotics
of the characteristic polynomial of random covariance matrices.

text: Complex query answering (CQA) goes beyond the widely studied link prediction
task by addressing more sophisticated queries that require multi-hop reasoning
over incomplete knowledge graphs (KGs). Research on neural and neurosymbolic CQA
methods is still an emerging field. Almost all of these methods can be regarded
as black-box models, which may raise concerns about user trust. Although neurosymbolic
approaches like CQD are slightly more interpretable, allowing intermediate results
to be tracked, the importance of different parts of the query remains unexplained.
In this paper, we propose CQD-SHAP, a novel framework that computes the contribution
of each query part to the ranking of a specific answer. This contribution explains
the value of leveraging a neural predictor that can infer new knowledge from an
incomplete KG, rather than a symbolic approach relying solely on existing facts
in the KG. CQD-SHAP is formulated based on Shapley values from cooperative game
theory and satisfies all fundamental Shapley axioms. Automated evaluation of these
explanations in terms of necessary and sufficient explanations, and comparisons
with various baselines, show the consistent effectiveness of this approach across
all studied datasets and query types.

text: This study replicates and adapts the experiment of Hoelzl and Rustichini (2005),
which examined overplacement, i.e., overconfidence in relative self-assessments,
by analyzing individuals' voting preferences between a performance-based and a
lottery-based bonus payment mechanism. The original study found underplacement
    - the majority of their sample apparently expected to perform worse than others
    - in difficult tasks with monetary incentives, contradicting the widely held assumption
of a general human tendency toward overconfidence. This paper challenges the comparability
of the two payment schemes, arguing that differences in outcome structures and
non-monetary motives may have influenced participants' choices beyond misconfidence.
In an online replication, a fixed-outcome distribution lottery mechanism with
interdependent success probabilities and no variance in the number of winners
    - designed to better align with the performance-based payment scheme - is compared
against the probabilistic-outcome distribution lottery used in the original study,
which features an independent success probability and a variable number of winners.
The results align more closely with traditional overplacement patterns than underplacement,
as nearly three-fourths of participants prefer the performance-based option regardless
of lottery design. Key predictors of voting behavior include expected performance,
group performance estimations, and sample question outcomes, while factors such
as social comparison tendencies and risk attitudes play no significant role. Self-reported
voting rationales highlight the influence of normative beliefs, control preferences,
and feedback signals beyond confidence. These results contribute to methodological
discussions in overconfidence research by reassessing choice-based overconfidence
measures and exploring alternative explanations for observed misplacement effects.

text: We construct the first examples of chamber-regular lattices on C̃₂-buildings.
Assuming a conjecture of Kantor our list of examples becomes a classification
    for chamber-regular C̃₂-lattices on locally-finite C̃₂-buildings. The links of
special vertices in the buildings we construct, are all isomorphic to (the incidence
graph of) the unique generalized quadrangle Q of order (3,5). In particular our
constructions involve chamber-regular actions on Q. These actions on Q are the
first (and if Kantor's conjecture holds the only) chamber-regular actions on a
finite generalized quadrangle and therefore interesting in their own right. Moreover
Q is not Moufang and therefore none of our examples is a Bruhat-Tits building
and all our lattices are exotic building lattices.

  text:
Due to demographic changes and their impact on the labor market, attracting
and retaining older employees plays a decisive role in organizations’ ability
to maintain their workforce. This requires organizations to publicly display a
work environment that fits the particular preferences of this target group. Drawing
on lifespan theories, we examine how the link between employee preferences and
employees’ likelihood of recommending their employer to others varies by age.
To address the lack of integration between the literatures on workforce aging
and employer branding, we take an empirical approach analyzing 292,429 numeric
and unedited text-based employee reviews from an employer rating platform. Our
findings reveal that relationship-building, fair and appreciative supervisor behavior,
positive interactions with older colleagues, and location-flexible, efficient
working conditions play pivotal roles in shaping older employees’ likelihood of
recommending their employer. Although these age-related interaction effects are
significant, they remain small, suggesting broadly compatible preferences between
older and younger employees. We also demonstrate that these findings are robust
across gender and different income groups. Finally, we provide tangible recommendations
for the incorporation of lifespan theories in the employer branding context and
highlight the value of using platform data for future research.
