text: Organizations leverage artificial intelligence (AI) systems to augment or
automate employee decision-making practices. These changes often transform employees’
occupation significantly and, thus, the way employees perceive themselves as professionals.
By making use of qualitative insights from three case organizations that introduced
AI systems for decision making, we explore how AI systems affect employees’ occupational
identity. Our findings uncover three important dimensions that shape the way AI
systems affect occupational identity. Based on our insights, we derive implications
for the successful introduction of AI systems and highlight potential pitfalls
that may arise from different organizational strategies used to introduce AI systems.

text: In gig work, individuals engage in project-based work outside traditional
organizational structures. While some workers value the autonomy and flexibility
of gig work, they also face unique challenges, including job insecurity and a
lack of available career paths. Platforms are very limited in actively providing
resources to their workers. However, platforms can shape their workers’ work environment
by actively prioritizing different design attributes. Our study is among the first
to uncover how these attributes contribute to workers’ intention to pursue a lasting
career in gig work. Based on a PLS modelling approach with data from a two-wave
quantitative survey involving 652 gig workers, we find that platforms’ utilitarian,
hedonic, and relational design positively affect gig workers’ career commitment.
Furthermore, we find evidence for the mediating role of gig workers’ thriving.
Our research contributes to a better understanding of how platform design attributes
can contribute to careers on gig work platforms.

text: 'The rapid advancement of AI and automation is reshaping virtually every facet
of contemporary business and society. Simultaneously, these emerging technologies
also give rise to complex challenges for individuals and organizations to navigate.
These challenges range from ensuring data privacy, and mitigating bias and discrimination,
to maintaining transparency, trust, fairness and autonomy. Moreover, these challenges
are differently perceived depending on the stakeholders involved. Our paper proposes
a comprehensive framework that provides practical guidance based on 12 groups
of questions for stakeholders to consider. We integrated and synthesized knowledge
from three areas: responsible AI, stakeholder theory, and decision-making models.
Our study seeks to enrich discourses on the responsible use of AI by providing
a structured approach incorporating theoretical concepts with real-world applications.'

  text:
Abstract
Understanding how water interacts
with nanopores of carbonaceous electrodes is crucial for energy storage and conversion
applications. A high surface area of carbonaceous materials does not necessarily
need to translate to a high electrolyte‐solid interface area. Herein, we study
the interaction of water with nanoporous C1N1
materials to explain their very low specific capacitance in aqueous electrolytes
despite their high surface area. Water was used to probe chemical environments,
provided by pores of different sizes, in 1H MAS NMR experiments.
We observe that regardless of their high hydrophilicity, only a negligible portion
of water can enter the nanopores of C1N1,
in contrast to a reference pure carbon material with a similar pore structure.
The common paradigm that water easily enters hydrophilic pores does not apply
to C1N1 nanopores below a few nanometers.
Calorimetric and sorption experiments demonstrated strong water adsorption on
the C1N1 surface, which restricts water
mobility across the interface and impedes its penetration into the nanopores.

  text:
Abstract
3D printing or additive manufacturing
(AM) possesses enormous potential to benefit the manufacturing industry. Presently,
rotary draw bending (RDB) is one of the most commonly used cold-forming industrial
process for bending metal tubes. Pressure die is a fundamental forming tool in
RDB processes, and it is conventionally made by various grades of comparatively
expensive alloy steels. This research presents a novel design of a pressure die
which can be 3D printed by using inexpensive polymeric filaments. In this research
paper, the 3D-printed pressure die is named as “FFF-pressure die.” The material
used to fabricate the FFF-pressure die is a thermoplastic polymer known as “ecoPLA.”
The mechanical properties of ecoPLA are studied in relation to the process conditions
of a RDB process. Firstly, an initial feasibility of using the FFF-pressure die
in a RDB process is obtained by conducting a quick static stress analysis with
actual process conditions. After initial feasibility, a complete RDB process is
developed and simulated with actual process conditions and material properties.
The FFF-pressure die is then practically fabricated by FFF 3D printer and experimentally
tested on an industrial RDB machine. The results of practical experiments are
compared with the simulation results. In order to make a comparison of the FFF-pressure
die with the conventional metal pressure die, the simulation and practical process
is also conducted with the conventional metal pressure die. A performance and
cost comparison is made between the polymeric FFF-pressure die and the conventional
metal pressure die. Von Mises stresses, contact forces, failure risk, and elastic
deformations are analyzed. The advantages and limitations of using the FFF-pressure
die in a RDB process are discussed in the end. This research intends to widen
the avenue of using cost-effective and lightweight forming tools in metal forming
    industries.

text: Background Anti-Muslim and anti-Islam attitudes are widespread in contemporary
western societies. A grassroots movement of mosques tries to reduce prejudice
by organizing guided mosque tours for non-Muslims. While this is an opportunity
for intergroup contact in a social psychological sense, contact occurs under sometimes
difficult conditions. As yet, its effects have not been investigated empirically.
Objective We examine (a) whether visits have an immediate and medium-term effect
on prejudice toward Islam and (b) how they change the visitors’ subjective images
of Muslims. Methods (a) We survey N = 324 secondary school students in a three-wave
panel study in 6 guided mosque tours in different parts of Germany, including
a control sample. The tour programme was in line with common practice in the mosques.
Standardized measurements were taken immediately before and after the tour and
again several months later. (b) We asked about subjective images of Muslims and
had subjects report their spontaneous associations with the term Muslim. Results
    (a) Most, but not all, mosque visits significantly alleviate anti-Islam prejudice
in the short term. The effects fall off after several months. (b) After the visit,
the image of Muslims possessed more concrete religious content, while negative
and menacing associations, such as oppression of women, threat, or so-called Islamic
State have decreased. Conclusions Outgroup contact in a mosque works as predicted
by the intergroup contact research, even under less than optimal conditions. However,
there is potential for improvement of the setup of tours in the interest of a
    more sustainable impact.

text: 'The experience of loneliness is common among international students who study
in a foreign country, away from their home. Loneliness refers to the difference
between the actual and desired social relationships. In the context of international
student mobility, feelings of loneliness may be influenced not only by having
a ‘sufficient’ number of social ties, but also other study-abroad-related stressors
such as discrimination and not being able to make new cross-national friendships.
In this article, we explore the predictors of loneliness among Chinese international
students in Germany by examining both their social networks and the difficulties
they face while studying abroad. Through our analysis of a unique dataset, we
discover that when international students have an equal number of emotionally
supportive ties, those with larger networks tend to experience less loneliness
compared to those with smaller networks. Furthermore, having a romantic partner
is associated with lower levels of loneliness. Additionally, we find that international
Chinese students who encounter discrimination and struggle to form cross-national
friendships report higher levels of loneliness. By delving into these findings,
our research contributes valuable insights to the Special Issue, offering a novel
examination of personal networks among international students in Germany. Keywords:
international student mobility, loneliness, personal networks, emotional support,
    friendship, discrimination, China, Germany '

  text:
ABSTRACT
This paper deals with micromagnetic
measurements for online detection of strain‐induced α′‐martensite during plastic
deformation of metastable austenitic steel AISI 304L. The operating principles
of the sensors are magnetic Barkhausen noise (MBN) and eddy currents (EC), which
are suitable for detection of microstructure evolution due to formation of ferromagnetic
phases. The focus of this study was put on the qualification of different micromagnetic
techniques and different measurement systems under conditions similar to the real
ones during production, which is crucial for implementation of a property‐controlled
flow forming process. The investigation was carried out on tubular specimens produced
by flow forming, which have different content of α′‐martensite. To characterize
the sensitivity of the sensors, different contact conditions between sensors and
workpieces were reproduced. MBN sensors are suitable for detecting amount of α′‐martensite,
but the measurements are affected by the surface roughness. This entails that
the calibration models for MBN sensors must take account of these effects. EC
sensors show a closer match with the amount of α′‐martensite without having major
    affectation by other effects.
