text: In mechanical joining, a wide variety of tool geometries and rivet types have
been developed to meet different requirements. For example, this is due to the
mechanical properties of sheet materials and the increasing number of material
combinations that require joining. However, to address rising costs and sustainability
demands or to react to supply chain disruptions, versatile joining processes are
needed to reduce the amount of joining equipment required by adapting the process
to the joining task. This study examines the influence of punch velocity on the
clinching and semi-tubular self-piercing riveting processes, as well as on the
binding mechanisms, joint's geometric parameters, and joint properties. The aim
is to determine the relevant range of punch velocities based on material properties,
such as strain rate dependence, and to assess whether punch velocity can be utilized
as a control variable for versatile joining processes. To this aim, similar joints
made of steel (HCT590X+Z), aluminum (EN AW-6014), and mixed joints of these materials
are examined. The resulting joining forces are analyzed using force-displacement
curves to evaluate the influence on the joining process. The form closure is examined
using micrographs of the joints' geometric parameters. To characterize the force
closure, the connection resistance is measured using the four-wire sensing method,
and the load-bearing capacity is determined via a shear tensile test.

text: We report the synthesis, structural elucidation, and establishment of structure−property
relationships for two metal−organic frameworks (MOFs), [M(OH)(H2BPD)]·xH2O (M
    = Al3+, Ga3+, x = 11–13), denoted as M-CAU-67, employing the ditopic linker molecule
N,N′-4,4′ bipiperidine bis(methylenephosphonic acid) (H4BPD). The title compounds
can be synthesized on a milligram scale under hydrothermal conditions, while gram-scale
synthesis was realized under reflux conditions. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction
(SCXRD) revealed an isoreticular, expanded MIL-91 type structure, representing
a rare case of isoreticular expansion in porous metal phosphonates. The framework
structure was confirmed by Rietveld refinement against powder X-ray diffraction
(PXRD) data and further validated by solid-state NMR spectroscopy (31P MAS, 27Al
3Q MAS). Solvent-exchange experiments and variable-humidity/temperature PXRD data
revealed high framework flexibility. The compounds show permanent microporosity
and a complex, polarity- and size-dependent sorption behavior toward gases and
    vapors.

text: The increasing demand for advanced sensing technologies drives the development
of chemical sensors using innovative materials. In gas sensing, optical sensors
are often used to detect gases such as CO, NOx, and O2. Oxygen sensors typically
incorporate dyes into oxygen-permeable matrices like polymers, silica, or zeolites.
Alternatively, semiconductor surface chemistry can enable O2 detection. However,
these approaches are often limited by slow response and recovery times and low
selectivity, restricting their practical applications. The metal-organic framework
MOF-76(Eu) and its yttrium-modified variant, MOF-76(Eu/Y) are reported to exhibit
highly reversible and fast optical responses to varying O2 concentrations. Time-resolved
emission measurements are performed over short (seconds) and long (hours) timescales
using N2 and synthetic air mixtures. Cross-sensitivity to humidity is analyzed.
Multichannel scaling photon-counting experiments confirm quenching at the linker
level, as the emission lifetime remains nearly constant. Yttrium significantly
improves stability and performance at room temperature. Structural and optical
changes induced by yttrium are investigated. Additionally, MIL-78(Eu), another
Eu-BTC-based MOF with a different coordination environment, is synthesized. Unlike
MOF-76(Eu), MIL-78(Eu) exhibits distinct optical properties but lacks a reversible
response to O2. These results highlight the potential of MOF-76-based materials
    for high-performance O2 sensing.

text: The modeling of the dynamics of technical systems ranges between physics-based
    white-box approaches and purely data-driven black-box approaches. Gray-box models
combine both approaches. Hybrid models represent a special case in which physical
knowledge is explicitly retained and specifically supplemented by data-driven
components. This work investigates hybrid modeling approaches based on discrepancies
for the compensation of model deviations. Although various approaches have been
proposed in the literature, a systematic comparison under identical conditions
is still lacking. At the system level, continuous and discrete methods for fully
and partially observable systems are analyzed, resulting in a comparison of five
approaches in total. The evaluation is carried out using synthetic measurement
data from a three-mass oscillator, which incorporates real conditions such as
noise, trends, and simplified model assumptions in isolation, thereby enabling
statements on generalization capability. Subsequently, selected methods are applied
to real measurement data from a four-bar linkage and a double pendulum. The comparison
shows that no method is universally superior, but rather that suitability depends
on application context, measurement situation, and available system description. The
transfer to component level is demonstrated using shock absorbers and rubber-metal
bushings. It is shown that hybrid modeling significantly reduces computation time
    while maintaining accuracy.

text: Predictive Maintenance is a key element of data-driven maintenance strategies
in Industry 4.0. It promises improved asset availability and operational efficiency.
In addition to data analytics and machine learning, simulation-based assessment
and digital representations of production systems increasingly complement Predictive
Maintenance by enabling the evaluation of maintenance decisions and failure risks
before physical intervention. However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
often face challenges in realizing these benefits due to insufficient employee
competencies across all domains. As a prerequisite, a clear understanding of competency
gaps that hinder employees to use relevant key technologies such as artificial
intelligence and data analytics is needed. This paper presents competency profiles
that define relevant competencies for the use of simulation-based Predictive Maintenance
and map these competencies to relevant roles that need them. The study is based
on a systematic literature review about competencies for digitalization processes
in industry focusing on maintenance and, more specifically, data technologies
in maintenance. The competency profile is validated through a Delphi-Study with
industry representatives assessing the identified competency levels. The results
support a more holistic understanding of Predictive Maintenance and provide guidance
for targeted competency development in SMEs.

text: Design for Assembly, Disassembly and Reassembly (DfADR) prepares for high
levels of material circularity in terms of repair and remanufacturing. The intention
of reassembling products and their part simplies that inspection and sorting need
to be integrated with value-conserving objectives. Further, disassembly and reassembly
require higher competence levels of workforce than assembly. To provide the required
information during engineering, a metadata model (MDM) is required that links
established product models to capability models. Since processes to be carried
out for realizing a product largely determine required employees’ capabilities,
the proposed approach uses the ADR process domain to connect product and capability
domains. The research is based on a systematic literature analysis to identify
existing approaches regarding MDMs of ADR processes. Based on the results, an
integrative MDM is developed that answers defined competence questions. The model
enables queries which support engineers by feedback on which skills are required
for a product. This builds up a basis to check whether required skills are available
in the manufacturing company, either early in product engineering or later in
    ADR planning.

text: "Taking pupils’ diverse needs into account is considered a central requirement
of inclusive education (Booth & Ainscow, 2016). These needs are—according to Ainscow’s
(2007) inclusive turn—not primarily ‘special educational needs’, but diverse needs
of all learners. For the rather segregated German educational system, this endeavour
applies especially to primary education, where needs are still developing and
pupils are not yet assigned to different types of schooling according to their
needs and abilities.\r\n\r\nDespite a substantial amount of research on pupils’
basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence and social relatedness (Ryan
et al., 2022), strategies that technology education teachers apply in this regard
are not yet well understood. Besides interventional studies on technology education,
indicating effectiveness of self‑directed and action‑oriented teaching and learning,
there is a dearth of research on how teachers address different needs as a routine.\r\n\r\nThe
purpose of the presented study is therefore to investigate and systematize actions
and strategies teachers apply, and to specify how pupils' needs are considered
when teaching technology education on a given topic.\r\n\r\nThe overall study
used a mixed-methods approach to the question how pupils’ needs are characterized
by themselves and by their teachers, and how they were taken into account in a
lesson adapted and delivered by the teachers. In the sub-study presented here,
participating primary school teachers were interviewed about their consideration
of pupils’ needs whilst planning and conducting a technology education unit on
the functionality of robots.\r\n\r\nThe results gained from qualitative content
analysis of the interviews indicate that although the anticipation of different
needs is considered challenging, teachers possess a substantiate amount of practices
and strategies to take them into account.\r\n\r\nThe paper systematizes the practices
teachers described in structured interviews within strategies and discusses the
contribution of taking basic needs into account for inclusive technology education."

  text: "
\r\n DNA origami nanostructures (DONs) have promising
applications in biomedicine and biosensing, which often require their efficient
binding to target cells. By immobilizing the glycopeptide antibiotic vancomycin
on DONs, DON binding to Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria can be facilitated.
Here, we investigate how this multivalent binding is affected by the number and
arrangement of the vancomycin modifications on two‐dimensional DONs. We find that
    for both Gram‐positive\r\n Bacillus subtilis\r\n
    \ and Gram‐negative\r\n Escherichia
coli\r\n , binding increases with the number
of vancomycin modifications per DON. In general, binding to\r\n E.
    coli\r\n is stronger than to\r\n B.
subtilis\r\n , which may be attributed to differences
in the architectures of the cell envelopes. Interestingly, for both bacteria,
the total number of vancomycin modifications appears to be more important than
their arrangement, as DONs with 18 vancomycin molecules on one side show similar
binding as DONs with 18 vancomycin molecules distributed over both sides. This
enables the attachment of multiple probe molecules to the vancomycin‐free side
of the DONs for enhancing detection efficiency without compromising binding affinity.
These results may thus provide guidelines for the design and synthesis of vancomycin‐modified
DONs for antimicrobial drug delivery and pathogen detection.\r\n
"

text: The two-qubit controlled-not (C-NOT) gate is an essential component for gate-based
quantum circuits. In fact, its operation, combined with single qubit rotations
allows to realise any quantum circuit. Several strategies have been adopted in
order to build quantum gates. Among them, photonics offers the dual advantage
of excellent isolation from the environment and ease of manipulation at the single
qubit level. Here we adopt a scalable time-multiplexed approach in order to build
a fully reconfigurable architecture capable of implementing a post-selected C-NOT
gate with a fidelity of (93.8 ± 1.4)%. We then show how our time-multiplexed platform
can be employed to combine a C-NOT and a single qubit gate in order to generate
    the four Bell states.

text: Backchannels and fillers are important linguistic expressions in dialogue,
but often treated as "noise" to be bypassed in modern transformer-based language
models. Our work studies the representation of them in language models using three
fine-tuning strategies. The models are trained on three dialogue corpora in English
and Japanese, where backchannels and fillers are preserved and annotated, to investigate
how fine-tuning can help LMs learn their representations. We first apply clustering
analysis to the learnt representation of backchannels and fillers, and have found
increased silhouette scores in representations from fine-tuned models, which suggests
that fine-tuning enables LMs to distinguish the nuanced semantic variation in
different backchannel and filler use. We also use natural language generation
(NLG) metrics and qualitative analysis to confirm that the utterances generated
by fine-tuned language models resemble human-produced utterances more closely.
Our findings suggest the potentials of transforming general LMs into conversational
LMs that are more capable of producing human-like languages adequately.
