The source is the interface section of the XML-based markup language for user interfaces, UIML [User Interface Markup Language], which has been extended with a vocabulary for the description of generic user interfaces. Target formats used as examples for the comparison are HTML [Hypertext Markup Language], and VoiceXML. The compared means for transcoding are XSLT [Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation], the UIML peers section with enhancements for transcoding, and RDL/TT [Rule Description Language for Tree Transformation], a Java-like transcoding language.
