The theory includes the process of optical excitation, the Coulomb interaction among the carriers, carrier-phonon coupling, and the acceleration induced by the electric field. Coherent phenomena induced by dc and ac fields, like Bloch oscillations and dynamical localization, are introduced and discussed.
