To achieve their maximum mechanical properties, the fiber-matrix adhesion (FMA) is critical. In this work, continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic laminates (CFRTPL) with a polypropylene (PP) matrix and twill woven glass fiber fabrics are produced by film stacking. The films used contain different amounts of maleic-anhydride-grafted PP (MA-g-PP) as a coupling agent to produce CFRTPL of different mechanical strengths. To analyze the FMA, the CFRTPL are subjected to Charpy-impact and tensile tests. Additionally, single fiber pull-out tests (SFPT) are conducted to further investigate the effect of MA-g-PP on the FMA. The results of the SFPT show an improvement in apparent interfacial shear strength (AIFSS) when the MA-g-PP content is increased, which can be attributed to an increase in FMA. However, the research shows that MA-g-PP has a low impact on the mechanical properties if the force is applied parallel to the warp and weft threads during tensile testing and the results of the Charpy-impact testing suffer from embrittlement of the matrix material. Subsequently, the results of this study are compared to three-point flexural tests conducted in a previous study. It can be concluded that tensile and impact tests are not suited to investigate FMA on a macroscopic scale, while SFPT and flexural tests provide a better alternative."}],"date_created":"2026-03-30T14:14:33Z","author":[{"first_name":"Elmar","full_name":"Moritzer, Elmar","id":"20531","last_name":"Moritzer"},{"first_name":"Philipp","last_name":"Brandes","orcid":"0009-0005-9707-0885","id":"70091","full_name":"Brandes, Philipp"},{"first_name":"Maurice","last_name":"Wittler","id":"76071","full_name":"Wittler, Maurice"},{"first_name":"Leander","id":"11829","full_name":"Claes, Leander","last_name":"Claes","orcid":"0000-0002-4393-268X"},{"last_name":"Wippermann","full_name":"Wippermann, Mareen","id":"74624","first_name":"Mareen"},{"last_name":"Haag","full_name":"Haag, Markus","first_name":"Markus"},{"full_name":"Gries, Thomas","last_name":"Gries","first_name":"Thomas"},{"last_name":"Henning","id":"213","full_name":"Henning, Bernd","first_name":"Bernd"}],"publisher":"Walter de Gruyter GmbH","date_updated":"2026-03-30T14:15:31Z","doi":"10.1515/ipp-2025-0077","title":"Fiber-matrix adhesion in glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite laminates and its effect on mechanical properties","quality_controlled":"1","publication_identifier":{"issn":["0930-777X","2195-8602"]},"publication_status":"published","citation":{"apa":"Moritzer, E., Brandes, P., Wittler, M., Claes, L., Wippermann, M., Haag, M., Gries, T., & Henning, B.
