Abstract
<jats:p> <jats:italic>In situ</jats:italic> TEM heating experiments combined with extensive chemical, structural and sorption analysis reveal the nanoscale mechanism of porosity formation in carbonaceous materials obtained directly from molecular precursors.</jats:p>
