<p>A mixed-metal framework Cu–Ru-BTC with the formula Cu<sub>2.75</sub>Ru<sub>0.25</sub>(BTC)<sub>2</sub>·<italic>x</italic>H<sub>2</sub>O was successfully synthesized. Partial substitution of Cu<sup>2+</sup> by Ru<sup>3+</sup> in the paddlewheel structure was proven using X-ray absorption spectroscopy.</p>
